A truly great idea and app
A year ago I wrote a review praising the central idea of the app (ad revenue goes towards tree planting projects), but I said it could be a bit more sleek and have a dark mode. In the recent update, they’ve truly outdone themselves; adding dark mode, incognito mode, a nice modern design and much more. The search engine results have improved a lot from my experience. Ecosia as a transparent organisation also regularly publishes financial reports showing where the ad revenue has gone (which is mostly to tree planting), and they care about privacy. It’s a great alternative to the techopoly that is Google, and is a great way to help in the global reforestation effort, just by searching. It’s now my official go-to search engine, and I can’t recommend it enough. Thanks Ecosia, keep doing what you’re doing.Show lessyeti_spaghetti

I like this app a lot, I like helping the planet while I do stuff online, however something just happened and I’m beyond upset. I’m disabled and I have poor memory, so I had many pages open so I could remember the ones I found important. I went to go look at one of these pages just now and when I opened Ecosia, all of the pages were cleared, including my browsing history. There’s so many pages now that I just won’t remember and I’ll never see them again. I’m not sure what happened, but I hope it never happens again or else I’ll delete Ecosia forever because this kind of thing should not happen.Show lessMaxine335
Was 5-stars, update ruined simplicity
The Ecosia icon button no longer opens a search page. Have to make several taps now to search instead of one. This is a search engine service, go back to that as the main focus. It’s fine to have browser functionality but for Pete’s sake why did you remove the one tap search???!
No joke it is annoying and makes me want to quit using this app.
I prefer this search engine for the ecology bent, but dropping that functionality in the app as a main benefit is a terrible idea.
I’ll probably only use Ecosia on the computer now. No point using the app anymore when it takes as long as Firefox to search for something.

Love Ecosia, don’t love the new layout
I’ve been using this app for a while (have contributed to almost 50 trees!) and loved having it as a dedicated search app. If I found something I’d want to keep for the future, I’d open it in my browser. But now Ecosia wants to /be/ the browser? That’s not what I want to use it for.
I miss the Ecosia logo taking me to the main page with the search bar. I’m not happy with the new layout. The reason for the update was supposedly to make it easier to navigate, but IMO it did the exact opposite. When I open this app, which I’m supposed to use to search for things, I want it to be easy to quickly search for things.Show lesshannahspixels
Amazing!
I only downloaded this app pretty recently, but I already love it. It’s a search engine that actually cares about your privacy and also gives you this amazing feeling of satisfaction every time you search because you know you’re actually doing something good for the planet, and that just feels so great. It has almost all the results I need, though occasionally I have to use DuckDuckGo to find a particular answer. Still absolutely brilliant though!Show lessPetitionTinyThief!
Not Safe
My first search was for my friends online plant business, her business did not come up but multiple porn sites did. I like the concept of this app, however google has safeties in place and won’t give you porn unless you specifically ask for it.Chjtdbjjk

I really like using this app. It’s great and I love being able to know I’m making a difference with every search I make, even if it’s only a small one. I’ve also signed in on my computer without getting the app and I think it’s better because I don’t have to click on the app to search because when I go onto safari it comes up instead of google and as I’ve got into the habit of clicking on google automatically when I need to search something I forget to click on Ecosia instead. Hope that made sense. However, it’s really good and the only other thing is to be able to use other devices with the same account. So I really recommend it! My opinion 🙃
Ecosia is a wonderfull search engine and it’s so nice how the Ecosia team made this to help our world! It’s great and it’s a lot more fun then boring google with a plain old white screen behind it! How ever, I am starting to get some glitches like earlier on I was on Etsy and searched up something and it wouldn’t load at all... I’m starting to think about this app and I’m not really sure if it’s safe for me to be using it. But over all it’s an amazing app and a lovely idea, the only reason I’m curious if I should be using Ecosia is that I’ve been through these stages of my devices getting hacked and having viruses so that’s all I don’t wanna risk my laptop, iPad and phone getting broken and not working (which I paid for) from this search engine 💛✨Show lessAva loves imovie!!!!
Love the Cause!
I love the message behind this company, and it works! It’s not a scam even though it seems too good to be true! There are some kinks that I think need to be ironed out. For reference, these issues are on my IOS phone with the lad test IOS update.
1.) Because Ecosia is my default browser opening certain links is tricky. I can’t open Zoom links or PayPal links through Ecosia.
2.) Password auto fill isn’t as efficient as it is on safari. It doesn’t auto fill, and it doesn’t auto generate passwords when you’re making a new account on a website. Sometimes it doesn’t save new passwords to the iCloud Keychain.
3.) Your favorites page is not as easily accessible as I would like. You have to click a lot of buttons to get to where you wanna be. Maybe that’s just a user learning curve.
Overall, the aesthetic and the mission of Ecosia is wonderful. I will continue to use it, and I hope to see improvements in the future!Show less14mir
Overall Amazing! My suggestion...
This works amazing (for me at least) I can’t seem to find a problem with it but something that would help more people actually want it is to make its design and overall use slightly similar to other browsers. For example maybe on a laptop/computer version you could make the plain white background before you search something customizable? Or you could make switching between images on ecosia less laggy and actually have the tab move instead of just popping up the next image.
