Great app but hidden costs

The working of the app is very good. My only request would be using a destination address once and not having to add it as a new location.
Unfortunately the app is not shown in the App Store with the ‘in app purchase’ flag and the app text doesn’t tell you after 20 trips a month you’ll have to subscribe at £8 a month. I pay £20 a month for a full, HMRC approved accounting package, so can’t justify the cost of this app just for tracking a couple of trips a day. If it was had the price I’d subscribe but now I’ll deleting.

Hi Kr_uk, thank you so much for your feedback in regards to our pricing. I have forwarded the message to our developer in charge of the App Store. We wish you all the best for 2019 and thanks again for your message. Daniel

Auto tracking

The auto tracking doesn’t work well. It only records 1/2 or less of my actual trips.

Latest 2.0 Update Not Tracking Properly

I’ve been very happy With Driversnote until the most recent update to v2.0. Now it does not track my complete journey and has been costing me money. Why it is not tracking the full trip, I do not know. I presume it’s because of some type of auto on/off feature. But I have that turned off, and it should not be affecting it. Even when I start the tracking and then end the tracking myself, it does not have a full record of the trip I just drove...large portions of my drive are left out! The GPS tracking worked fine until this new release.

Driversnote - iBeacon is not accurate!!!

Well, sadly I did not read these reviews before buying!!

I bought the product - paid upfront for the year on the strength that I believed the ‘start tracking a trip’ worked so well, why would the promise of auto-tracking not as well!?!

Well, it has wound me up so much -

DRIVERSNOTE - DONT SELL A PRODUCT OR RELEASE IT UNTIL IT FULLY WORKS - FOR EVERYONE!!!

I have had it three days now, I was so excited on the ‘stating’ that it would automatically record trips, as put - ‘without taking it out of your pocket!’ Just get in the car and drive - how wrong can you be!!

My first trip didnt start and stop when it should have.

My second trip didn’t even record, one trip, I got out of the car for a stop and it didn’t even record the stop, just made a continuously journey of the two which I then had to correct!!

The prospect of this working i suppose would be too good to be true.

I have deleted the app and reinstalled it, taken of the iBeacon and put it back on, still its not accurate and it takes away all the pleasure if you have to keep going on to correct it!!!!

Please folks, DO NOT BUY IT - it doesn’t do what it states on the tin!!

Driversnote - great concept but get it working properly first before you sell it to the public..... company’s cannot get away with this anymore, with social media, it gets revealed and the product is shown up.

Please arrange a reduction and refund for the lack of the ibeacon not working.

Hi Paul Thank you for your mail and messages on Facebook. No, from your description it doesn't sound like you have a faulty iBeacon. There's a slight delay before the tracking commences when you enter your car to ensure that the trip is valid. If you drive from a "Saved Location" the app will automatically pick the saved location as your starting or stopping point. You can correct the location, if you should be parking within 500 meters from the actual address. The app will also keep tracking up to 5 minutes after you have disconnected from the iBeacon. It's unfortunate that you have business stops that are shorter than the 5 minutes limit. Again, the app will pick a saved Location from the last tracked GPS-point where you drove in the speed of a car/vehicle, so the 5 minutes is to ensure that the trip is done. Or if you should make a short toiletbreak or fill up gas. We revising this limit and I'll forward your message to our product team. Due that you're within your trial period, we'll be happy to refund your money back to your card, if you send us back our iBeacon. We'll process the refund as soon as we have the iBeacon in our possession. Looking forward to hearing how you want to proceed. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Unreliable, inconsistent, incorrect

I’ve had Driversnote’s iBeacon since July. It worked fine in the beginning. Not so much anymore. It mysteriously starts trips even when I’m not near my car or even driving in a car so sometimes it looks like it takes me 10+ hours to get to work because the trip started at 9pm (for example) and ended the next morning at 7:55am. Sometimes I will exit my vehicle at my desired location but the app finishes my trip at some completely random spot miles away in an “as the crow flies” path - meaning, according to the green line, I drove straight through homes, business, ignored roads, exited my vehicle there and then somehow got back to my desired location to do my errand because when I get back to my vehicle to go home, my next trip starts exactly where I am, not where the “crow” says I was. Sometimes trips aren't even starting til I’m more than 2 miles into my trip - and not 2+ miles driven slowly in neighborhoods. No, 2+ miles driven at 40+ mph. And even better still, sometimes my trip stops tracking completely even though I’m still in my car, still traveling. I’ve contacted customer service many times and they only responded to my very first problem and didn’t even resolve it. Every email since then has been ignored. I can’t trust this app. It produces inconsistent, incorrect data. I would not recommend the premium iBeacon service to anyone.

Latest Update Makes it Even Better

I’ve been using this app for a couple of years and I’ve got to say the latest update makes it even better. I use an iBeacon in the car and automatic tracking is now really reliable. I love the updated look and feel of the app and the entry for manual trips is much improved.

The killer feature of this update for me though has to be the expanded Apple Watch integration which means I can classify trips as business or private miles as they are logged right from the watch. It’s already saving me a load of time and will make month end claims so much easier.

Hi there, thank you so much for your awesome review!

A bit misleading

What they don’t tell you is that auto-tracking requires the purchase of a beacon. Also it’s only when you’ve signed up and invested time in entering your car data and learning how it works that the free version only allows you to track 20 trips in a month. The £8 per month fee seems too much of all you want to do is track mileage. Whilst that may seem stingy it seems that every useful app wants £8 - £10 per month as a private individual you end up forking out £100 per month for a bunch of useful utilities. It all just adds up. OK I’m just a mean Scottish git: I admit it.

Hi Cheezbrain. Thanks for your message. Sorry to hear that you missed the info about our pricing and it came as a surprise, but yes it's absolutely true. There's a limit of 20 trips in the Lite Version of the app and yes you need an iBeacon to track your trips automatically with our app. Best wishes for the upcoming Christmas Season. //Daniel

Update now stops tracking mileage between stops

Been using this for years, and having tried other apps, wouldn’t use anything else, mainly because this app keeps tracking mileage even during stops & continues until you tell it to stop tracking - essential for tracking mileage throughout a day with multiple stops.

But then after the “update” to version 2, there is a new “feature” that automatically stops tracking if I have stopped for a while.

Honestly, why can’t developers just make new features optional? If I wanted to stop tracking between destinations then I could just turn the tracking off, you know? Now I have to try and remember to switch it in between trips ... I can only assume this is to try and make it so annoying to use that everyone will buy the beacon thing. Well, I might have even done that if you’d given me a decent incentive, but making it annoying to use without spending money is more likely to send me to the competition, frankly.

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work optimally for you in the end. We appreciate your review nonetheless.

Not a standalone App

It seems to be good, but requires a log in and password. This gives someone else access to my information. No thanks

Response from developer

Hi Revjohnny, it's fair enough that you would like an app that keeps your log 100% in your own hands. But we provide a service of backing up our users' trips to our servers, so they can access them from desktop as well and also feel safe that their log is not lost in case they lose their phone. I respect that you are not looking for those things, but I feel it's unfair to rate us poorly on that behalf. I hope you found an alternative.

Months are wonky

I’ve input data for July through October. In the month view only June July and August are in the toggle. Can’t access September or October even though I have drives documented in those months. The only way I can find them is if I input a new drive for that month and when I’m done it takes me to the month I input for the newest trip. So that’s pretty annoying. If that can be fixed 5 stars. But as is I have to do an annoying work around to find my trips.
