  • Highly Suggest Barkly or Rover over Wag

I’ve been working with Wag! as an independent contractor for 4 years and I have completed over 430 services for dog walking with them so you know that I know what I’m talking about. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY suggest you do dog walks with either Rover or Barkly when they come up and to avoid Wag at all costs. Dog owners will explicitly let you know over the messaging platform that they wish to cancel dog walks due to extreme weather conditions, you’ll email Wag! and then they will tell you that they sent a backup replacement dog walker for the dog walk you had scheduled despite the awful weather that isn’t meant for dogs to walk in. All the while, Wag! will ban you for truly cruel amounts of time from completing any dog walking service like an 18 to 30 day long ban. Rover and Barkly does not do this to their dog caregivers. I also submitted a Better Business Bureau complaint that Wag! will be too unprofessional to respond to.

  • Frustrating

I was recently approved to be a walker on Wag! and I was very excited to be a part of their team. However, there have been a lot of technical difficulties and it seems impossible to get any help with these issues. I went through the whole application process and eventually got an email saying “congratulations you have been approved!” This email included a link to download the caregiver app and instructed me to log in. I have used the same email throughout this entire process and have an account on the regular Wag! app- but when I try to log in with my email I am confronted with a message saying “there is no pet caregiver account associated with this email address”. I have tried emailing, calling and have had no luck with resolving this issue. I hope there is a solution soon so that I can be able to log in and walk pets!

  • Can’t login

I just recently downloaded the app and the sign up process was pretty lengthy. I filled out all of the required documents, created a profile, and started the background check. I paid the fee and was notified 2 days later that the background check was completed but now I can’t access my account. When I put my login info into the app it says “There is no pet caregiver account associated with the email address you entered.” Then if I click on the “Become a Pet Caregiver” link it pulls up the Vetty background check website. It says my background check is complete but doesn’t say what to do next. I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled it, looked on their website for a contact number or email, and looked for emails from the company with instructions. I already paid $40 to become a caregiver and now I can’t even access my account, kinda disappointing

  • Great app!

I overall love the app it has been super easy to use and a great way for people to get started since you can request services when people post them rather than the other way around and never get picked like other apps. Three things I wish the app included:
    1. Owners could set a time frame for a walk rather than one specific time in case say you could do 12 but not 12:30.
    2. I wish you could message an owner you’ve never walked for prior to requesting the service to ask any questions before committing
    3. I wish the details about the service and the comments left by other caregivers was shown to you before you request the service because that could change my mind about whether or not I am comfortable with a difficult dog, home access issues, parking, etc

  • Needs some improvement

When going on the walk, all the resources to keep the parent at ease and to report when the pet uses the potty is great but there needs to be a function to contact the family before requesting to do the service for example, I’m free to walk this customers dog after 2:00pm through the week no problem, except that they need the dogs to be walked at 12:30pm. I wanted to see if they were willing to compromise the time but in order to be able to talk to them you have to request the dogs. Contacting the family beforehand saying you can help them out can help the walker to decide if they can be a good fit for the family before jumping in and save the family and the walker time and money.

  • Low pay and cancellation fees

I haven’t had much issues with the app itself. Other than in the city sometimes I the app may not get enough signal for you to start the walk or contact the owner for accessEven though I have enough signal for other apps to work. Otherwise the app is good but my issue is with a compensation. What they pay the walker is very little compared to other dog walking apps and compared to the high fees they charge the owner.I still tried to book walks nearby if possible so that at least I’m not spending too much time driving just for very little money. However, it can still take me 20 to 30 minutes with traffic. To top it off they recently changed the cancellation fee to $5 so even if you drive 30 minutes and check in for your walk the owner can literally cancel while you’re at the property which happened to me today. That’s why I’m no longer using Wag and sticking to another company that has been more considerate of its walkers when it comes to pay and cancellation fees.

  • Frustrating

Walking dogs for money is fun. Wag adds A LOT of extra bells and whistles that get in the way of walking dogs for money. Expect to be very limited, expect to be babysat by an App every step of the way, expect to fill out endless reports that don’t mean anything and don’t go anywhere, and if there is a problem with the App and your Acceptance Rate drops, good luck because Wag will both refuse to reverse the percentage drop, and refuse to allow you to get a new account. I don’t want to fill out a report why the dog didn’t pee. I don’t want to fill out a report about why the Dog Parent’s house is locked or unlocked. My advice is to copy and paste a bunch of words into the reports just to meet the character minimum (oh yes there are character minimums). I look forward to the day I can steal all my clients, book with them directly without Wag at all, and get rid of the nearly 50% cut that Wag takes from each walk. I could not possibly be more displeased with the way this App is structured. The term “feature creep” describes Wag very well; it’s clear someone in the company has way too many “good ideas” and nobody tells that person to calm it.

  • Overall Good Experience

I think this concept is wonderful! It gives pet parents the opportunity to request sitters and walkers on demand and ahead of time. I have had a lot of success using the app to get walls so far and the way the app manages owner sitter communication is great. The only complaints I have are with the app itself. The walk process is so involved that walkers are required to pay so much attention to their phone that it makes it difficult to also walk potentially 2 dogs! The app also requires a lot of battery life and I have had my phone go from 70% life to 0 during a 60 min walk. I’d a walkers phone dies this can create a really bad situation if they are unable to get back into the pets residence. Overall I think Wag is doing great things, but there are kinks that need to be worked out.

  • “Bids” and “set your own rates” is a SCAM

“ To best support the Pet Caregivers using Wag!, we’ve created the Dynamic Pricing feature, which allows Pet Caregivers to set their own rates as business owners.”
So you cannot actually set your own rates. The app pretends there is bidding involved by the pet owner but there actually IS NOT. Pet owners are given estimates which they agree to pay BEFORE they select their caregiver. In order to accept a request, caregivers MUST lower their prices about 10$ less than what the app is advertising their service for. A pop up window will come up that says “Uh oh! You’re outside of the Pet Parent request’s pricing for this service” with a SINGLE option to “Adjust bid.” Caregivers must use pre-set rates (or lower). What happens to the extra money and why isn’t this transparent? I downloaded both apps and took screenshots of the price discrepancies. And they have the nerve to call you “BUSINESS OWNERS.”
    This is false advertisement.

  • Wag the Tail Wag!

The Wag! Is a wonderful platform, which allows the dog owners to get help from trusted dog caring individuals. For me, a dog caregiver, the Wag! provides an incredible opportunity to interact with the best creatures in the world! What could be better than meeting bundles of joy wagging their tails in anticipation of going on a walk? You feel loved and appreciated! You also get a jolt of positive emotions after you accomplished your task! And you also can earn additional money, which is very helpful, especially for me since I has become unemployed for more than 2 months with no help from the government! So, I am wagging my tail (to the right!) in full appreciation of the WAG!
