  • Good for beginners

The app itself is great for beginners. I like that you can add a person to your premium account for free. I like that the audio is clear and can hear me clearly. I like all the different options. The only thing I don’t like, and what will probably keep me from subscribing long term, is that you can’t start at any level but beginner. Like, it asked me what my Spanish level is, I said intermediate. But when I started, it gave me the most basic greetings and words. I already know how to conjugate verbs in the present and greeting people I learned in high school. So I upped it to advance level, but it was still super basic, didn’t seem to change at all. So either there’s no customization or Im just way better at Spanish than I and others think I am (believe me, I am not). There should be a test of some sort to classify you and tailor your learning accordingly. It’s gonna take too long to go through all of these lessons and get to the level I should be in. As such, I’ll be deleting the app before the trial ends. But as I said, if you start this as a beginner, it will probably be great.

  • Amazing!

This is the best language learning app I’ve found so far, by far. The hands-free feature is insanely good, I find it quite expensive, though it’s worth the price, and it’s still worth having the free version for the daily activities
  • Helpful app

This app has helped me quite a bit with the language I’m learning… But you have to pay premium if you want to get anywhere, or do anything else apart from the introduction stage :)
  • So much fun!!

I am addicted to this app. I tried it out for free, but got a subscription and have not once felt like I’m not getting my money’s worth. They are continually improving the app by adding more features and lessons. I have made Mondly a part of my daily language learning. I’ve found myself adding more languages and learning them more consistently. The daily lessons are prefect for me to be consistent with even a few minutes daily. And it’s so much fun!! Update: re-upped my subscription. Every once in a while there will be an odd mistake, but being told you answered wrong, then shown the correct answer is the word you picked. A few times there has been a completely different sentence or variation of a word being spoken than is given as the answer, but it’s very easy to report these issues and I’ve noticed that the ones I’ve reported have all been corrected regardless of which language. Still very fun app and I really think it’s helping me with my pronunciation.

  • Very good for starting a new language

6 weeks learning as a Japanese beginner (Romaji): Easy to use and well thought out, Mondly had me understanding spoken and written words and phrases very quickly. Perhaps unsurprisingly as their courses cover so many languages, Mondly doesn’t reflect the culture of Japan particularly well (only Western food encountered so far) and there are occasionally questions which are impossible to answer correctly (fill in the missing word – there isn’t one :-)
There are some really useful articles on the Mondly website – for example one on Japanese numbers and another on the Japanese alphabet and I would recommend studying these as an additional resource. Highly recommended.

*Edit after 9 month’s use : There is always feedback from reports of bugs or errors in content. After a few months I was able to understand and participate in conversations online and IRL with Japanese speakers. I looked elsewhere for understanding of Japanese grammar.

  • Easiest & fastest way to learn a language!

I’ve tried many ways over the years to learn Hebrew but they were limited in capacity, as there wasn’t anyone to practice with. With Mondly, you can practice conversations and accent easily as well as hearing the native sounds of a language. Thank you Mondly, I’ve finally found a way to fluency. 5+⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

  • Fraud

They tell you that your subscription’s payment start after 7 days and you can evaluate the app in meanwhile, but the money will be deducted from your account immediately after subscription.

Hi, Thank you for your review. It appears to be a misunderstanding as no billing can be performed without your authorization and the details of the subscription are stated at the moment of purchase. Please send us your receipt and a short description of the issue at ios@mondly.com. We will help you sort this out. Kind regards, the Mondly Team
  • Lots of glitches and wrong words

Two problems: one is a major problem, the other is just annoying.

The first is that there are tons of glitches, at least in the hands free version.I subscribe to this app so that I could learn Greek on the go and not have to look at my screen. But I can almost never make it through a whole lesson because the app keeps saying there is a problem and it doesn’t hear my answers. I might be 75% of the way through a lesson and then I just have to close it out and lose all of my progress because the app won’t respond.

The other problem is the inaccurate phrases. Here’s an example. I use this app for Greek. I already speak Greek a B1 level, so I’ve noticed that some of the phrases are wrong. The main thing: in reality, there is no infinitive tense in Greek. When you want to learn a verb, such as “to write”, you actually learn “I write” (γράφω) because there is no such word as “to write”. When Mondly introduces a verb, it always says “γράφω means to write. How do you say to write?” And you have to answer back γράφω or it considers your answer incorrect. This can lead to a lot of confusion when trying to use these verbs in a sentence. I’m really surprised that such a huge inaccuracy made its way to the app. Some of the other phrases are not direct translations (as you would think if you didn’t already know them).

  • one of the best

i’m not kidding when I say this because i am very picky about some things… this is one of the best language learning apps i have used ever. i’m learning japanese on it and i can memorise so much just from these simple lessons. i just wish you can unlock all without going premium, but so far, i can have a really conversation in japanese and actually know what i’m saying!!

  • Intermediate Czech- simply awful daily content

I was a big fan of this app but lately the daily quizzes are giving me words I’ve never been taught (by the app) as test questions. I can’t answer stuff correctly that I haven’t been taught. Not only that but sometimes they use words not even listed in the translations at the top. “Drive me to the hotel”, tap “drive” and nowhere is listed the word the quiz demands. This and constant errors relating to US English vs UK English make me wonder if the developer really cares about their content.

Update: I received a developer response which did not address any of my concerns, especially the lack of a distinction between UK and US English. Maize and Sweetcorn are different words. A gift and a present are the same thing. I repeatedly report these things and nothing has changed in literally years, so perhaps the developers do not care about their content as much as their one and only support person suggests.

Hello, Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear that you are no longer enjoying Mondly as much as you used to. Our approach follows the most natural and effective language-learning process: you learn new words in isolation followed by the words being placed in certain contexts, so you can employ what you've learned. For example, in the sentence you mentioned, our native collaborator used the most natural variant for translating the original English text. Please rest assured that we do care about our content and we're aiming at finding the balance between the natural equivalents and effective teaching methodology. Should you have any other feedback for us, do not hesitate to share it either here or at ios@mondly.com, we deeply appreciate it and we do listen. Best, the Mondly Team
