Buggy App + AutoPilot sucks

If you love buggy apps and you’re real impressed by “A.I.” features that literally improve no meaningful metrics, but instead need to be turned off.

The app really wants you to use all of its “features” like sending you a text message summary every day. I turned this off, because I find it useless and annoying. I get enough text messages. What does the app do? Keeps reminding me to “finish setting up”, but it wasn’t a feature I wanted, but it keeps asking nonetheless to turn it back on. Same with the Ambient Response “feature”, which over just a few days completely changes your temperature profile for the worse. Turn that off and it’ll keep asking to turn it back on.

Ambient Response

Alarm
Even though the mattress cover is able to detect when you’re in the bed, if you forget to turn off the alarm in the app, it will vibrate the haptic motors for minutes even when no one’s in the bed. This is purposely wearing out the haptic motors, which they know wear out over time, so you have to replace them.

Provides zero help dialling in temperature when you first get it and you have no choice but to dial in completely manually over weeks/months of bad sleep results, because auto pilot (A.I.) provided ZERO help.

Once your manually created sleep temps help you get 100% sleep quality, Eight Sleep is going to HELP YOU forget all about that over the next few days while they slowly increase all your temps until you’re getting 65% quality. That’s when you realize that the $5000 you spent was worth every cent.

So many complaints.

It’s constantly suggesting/changing to a new temperature based on the ambient room temperature before I go to bed, and I always have to check it because whenever I go with what it recommends, I have a bad sleep. If it’s bedtime changes are similar to what’s doing in the middle of the night, it’s a waste of money.

Also, when I first got Eight Sleep, Autopilot did nothing to help me find the right temperature. I had to constantly experiment with no guidance about what I was doing to dial in my temperature. Autopilot was always wrong then too.

The only time I sleep well is when I use the temperatures that I found through a LOT of manual trial and error over weeks of testing one degree adjustments at a time and comparing that to sleep results.

The Eight Sleep support team was also useless to help me dial-in anything. I spoke to them multiple times asking for guidance on temperature patterns or sleep studies, but they had no information, and were not helpful at all.

All my custom tags from the previous app have been deleted! What a waste of time.

If I click stop tracking, why doesn’t it turn off the alarm? Or ask me to turn off the alarm? Instead, I come into the room and the bed’s vibrating like crazy for who knows how long which I’m sure is hard on the motors. There’s not even a person in the bed!

Response from developer

HI there, viewing your temperatures during different sleep stages is visible in the Autopilot Report. Tap the blue diamond from the Homepage or Metrics page, scroll down to temperature, and toggle on Sleep Stages to see temperature overlayed with Sleep Stages.

I sleep way better

The pod and app are great and it’s the best sleep I’ve ever had on the pod 5.

Great technology. Horrible customer service policy

Really great product. I asked them to pause my account while we moved abroad one day after it auto renewed. They refused. Charged me for a full year where it was used for one day. Wouldn’t credit. Be warned and careful of your subscription renewal.

Recent Versions Awful for Second Users

Instead of adjusting temperature by degrees, you simply have the option of the arbitrary +/- points. If both sleepers are signed in with the same login, you get the benefit of degrees control, but lose your summary on the home tab. You also cannot change your email address without losing your history. It was better before.

Still love the mattress. The app needs a little work that would make a lot of difference, especially at this level of investment for hardware.

Busted

I turned it off this morning. Got out of bed, came back hours later to find out that had turned itself back on. This, or some other variation happens every day. Abhorrent customer service.

Do not buy

Truly one of the worst purchases we’ve ever made. This thing leaks, disturbs your sleep, is accurate <10% of the time, and support is completely nonexistent.

Expensive Subscription Paywall for Basic Features

If you do not pay the minimum of $200/year basic features become disabled. Features that require no extra cost to EightSleep to make available. You cannot use bed alarms, varying temperature step adjustments, access locally stored sleep data and more which all can run locally and require no cloud compute. The app without a subscription becomes very dumb. Please make the simple features available for an already expensive product your customers have bought. Not everyone wants AI autopilot. Updates

For the love of Pete could you just put an on/ off button in the top corner and leave it there???? Every update I get you move the damn thing and it takes me forever to figure out where it is!

Now you have made it worse

You know how dumb the out of bed feature is what will it do if you go to sleep and you are a heavy sleeper the stupid thing will turn off

Life changer

My sleeping pattern become more effective and the body balance much improved with heat and cold pod

Auto-Pilot Doesn’t Work Well

The auto adjust temperature always makes me too cold around the middle of the night. Their customer support makes me feel like I’m messaging a bot that doesn’t have good solutions. I don’t think I have been able to reach a human customer service representative.

Bring back time slept!!!

I’ll remove this 1 star when you bring it back. But that was such a great feature! Also, create a widget we can add so we can glance at our phone and know how long we have slept please! Its customizable. I get some people get anxious when seeing that. For others it’s helpful!

Response from developer

Hi there, the Time Slept metric is still in the app and has not been removed. Please send appsupport@eightsleep.com with your account so we can understand why you're not seeing.

Failed technical support - they just don’t care

We purchased an eight sleep and for 1 week it worked great. Then for 10 days it would disconnect multiple times per day. Finally they tweaked the software and it was good for about 20 days. They had extended our trial period and 5 days before the trial ended if started failing again. It would disconnect, the buttons would stop working, it would freeze and hold a temperature. We reached back out to a manager to see if we could get a replacement and got radio silence. With 3 days left in our trial we are returning it because it is now failing 5-10 per day. Will look at Orion sleep as an alternative.

After posting this message, Eight Sleep reached out to me to contact support, but I have already done that multiple times to try and resolve the issue. I could not get their technical support team or management to resolve the problem. Sometimes they responded within 3 business days, other times it was radio silence.

App support

Is the use and they are very helpful

Lacking full support on sleep data

I don’t understand why you don’t allow the app permission on Apple‘s health to read Sleep data from other devices such as an Apple Watch

You have the option for setting away because people travel or sleep away from their pod at different times for different reasons. So that means you understand that Sleep pod cannot always gather all the data it needs from a person when they are away obviously

If they could read Apple health sleep data from other devices, we use when we’re not on our Sleep pod, it could take all those metrics into account and keep the personalized algorithm up-to-date with sleep patterns and data

You can always add a pop-up for new users when they are setting up the sleep pod to prioritize the sleep pod data in Apple health

Glitchy app

app constantly glitches and provides inaccurate sleep data. many features that sound great don’t actually work when you try to use them

Great Product, Terrible App

We love the product itself. This app is terrible with constant nonsensical assessments of your sleep. Every night it’s rem was up or down deep sleep was up or down, try a wind down routine, hey you worked out in the evening (yes, every day). Apple’s sleep score is far more accurate and less noisy. I am still waiting for the AI aspect of all this. Where is the assessment of how all the micro temp changes improved or worsened my sleep? Where is the evidence that the mandatory subscription actually learns anything meaningful about how *this product* is helping me sleep. I know when I went to bed, when I went to the gym.

First Night Feedback

This bed is a GAME CHANGER!!! Worth every penny. Can you really put a price on restorative sleep?

Great bed, garbage app

I love that my bed cools down, but what I do not love is that I literally cannot turn the light off on this hub and so it’s glowing all night long - which is the opposite of helping sleep.

The new app version has no option to adjust/dim the hub light (there used to be!!), despite “customer service” continuing to give me ridiculous answers like look for the menu icon and tap hub light.

But lol. Honestly. If it was there, and I mean right there, I would have done that by now.

They keep telling me to update my app version, despite me telling them on repeat that I already have.

Besides that the app is so wonky. The bed settings are in 3 or 4 different places, and not in a way that makes sense.

Just let us adjust the temp of our bed. The sleep details are all wrong and useless. We don’t buy it for that. Thats what my Oura ring is for.

And I’m all for AI, but real people need to check in on customer service issues if they are still going back and forth still after 8 replies.

These things are supposed to make our lives better, not more stressful.
