First of all I love this dictionary as it’s easy to use and has kanji writing directions.

But I just found out they have so much more stuff in the ‘word list’, like slang, categories, etc. and I am utterly amazed. Thank you app makers for making this app so beautiful and handy. I really love it. Please continue to make it free and hope you guys become widely known.

  • Perfect for anyone learning Japanese

This app feels like you’ve always got a dictionary on hand. Entries list both pronunciations, definitions, example sentences, word form examples (present tense, past tense, conjugations) & allows you to add notes for words. When you look up a word with kanji, it shows you the stroke order & similar kanji. The app also lists kanji by JLPT, grade level, radicals & frequency. The features I use the most: word lists (ex: dialect; expressions; topics); being able to bookmark words & learning with flashcards.

  • Very convenient.

Looking up words or kanji is very convenient, and in the case of kanji you can see stroke orders as well. There’re example sentences, conjugations, and links to see what kanji are in the word. Also there’re two kana charts you can quick on quickly however I haven’t needed to use them.
I haven’t tried any other Japanese dictionary apps but I haven’t needed to.

Oh also there’s a thing where you can star a word or kanji and add it to flashcards, which can be done with SRS (if you don’t know what that is and you’re learning a language I suggest you look into it). I have another app for flashcards which I use instead so I haven’t really tried that part of the app but it seems nice.

  • Crucial for learning

Brilliant app. Never had an issue with being unable to find a word. I go down rabbit holes typing in one word and then finding other words attached to those Kanji and example sentences. Crucially allows you to draw in Kanji, allowing me to look up anything I see on the streets. The most fun feature is the example sentences. Whilst perhaps not always the best example of how to use words naturally in conversation, the examples that you can find are brilliant and allow you to follow the definitions of each included word.

  • Best Dictionary App

Literally the best I have found on Japanese, I’ve never seen so many definitions for a single word I have ever seen. It’s the best app I have installed (apart from my games), it gives you so much more then just a dictionary. Flash cards, Katakana/Hiragana, notes and you can go back to words that you just searched up. Amazing in my opinion, I would think that others 1 star reviews are to be appreciated for their criticisms. That’s because when the dev sees them, they can fix the app to make it even greater. So I’d like to thank you for testing this out before I could. Even though they are bad reviews, you can fix them. You can change them when you try it again, everything can be changed. I’d like to see more functions but that’s just for my personal use. Much appreciated thank you for making things more easy for us.

  • Look no further

Excellent! It’s got everything: you can draw the character, or search by radicals, or just type in the roman characters (for an English and/or Japanese word). They provide all the tenses of a word, as well as commonly used combinations of the word. Even cultural slang, obscure or archaic terms, grade level, stroke counts, etc. are given in such a simple & compact app. I’ve enjoyed Henshall’s (now under a different author) “A Guide To Remembering Japanese Characters” for its comprehensive, encyclopedia-like format. It is fun to swim through and explore, to muse on the earlier forms of kanji, and learn about the history of China. It’s a perfect manual for those who study the language and if you are familiar with it then I’d recommend this app as on par with that same quality & thoroughness. I had to pause and give a review because I’ve been using it for a couple years now and have had no glitches nor any disappointments in searching for a word.

  • THIS is the app you’re looking for!!!

This is the absolute best app out there for studying Japanese. It’s so fast, accurate, and easy to use (you can easily bookmark words & phrases into separate lists, sooo useful for organizing different kinds of vocab— they even have prepopulated kanji lists for the JLTP, it was awesome to practice with when I took N2 a few years ago!!). I discovered this app when I lived in Tokyo for a year back in 2016 and I’ve been using it ever since. It’s so amazing because it has such a large database of words and phrases, even ones that are more “slang”, you can easily look up some common phrases that you pick up here and there! My goal this year is to read through all of 村上春樹の「スプートニクの恋人」 and this app has been my primary way of learning all the vocab!!!! THANK YOU TO THE APP TEAM YOU GUYS ARE MAKING SOMETHING SUPER AWESOME 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

  • Great app!

    Pros:

Kanji drawing is surprisingly good at picking up what you’re trying to write even if your input is subpar. The dictionary has everything you need, bookmarking for flash cards, default decks for JLPT, grade school levels, etc. I used it everyday for months on end, it’s almost perfect!

    Cons: Two things!

The search history function is just too much. It saves everything you type in SO fast, with the typos and the mistakes. Considering this is meant for people who learn, there is just no way to keep a clean and helpful history, because every time you look up a word it will save both the pre-kanji-selection hiragana input and the kanji writing in separate history entries. God forbid you take a second break mid-word or type something in wrong, you’d end up with 5-6 entries for what is essentially one actual search. I wish I could at least turn it off.

Also, I sometimes wish there were more example sentences for words that are not tagged as 通用.

Overall, amazing app, but the history function is kind of infuriating...!

  • Great App!...but

I love this app. Ever since I’ve found it I’ve used it to assist myself with studying . It’s dictionaries are extensive and I love being able to look things up in both English and Japanese. I do have a problem with the flash cards though. Every time I make a flash card list from my favorites , None of the values at the top (nor do any of the values in the due cards per day section) change and I Can’t figure out why. I like having some type of process to track my progress with so it’s kind of disappointing but is a great app none the less .

  • Very good app

I bought this app when I was in year 12 studying Japanese and this was my go to app for when I was reading Japanese to identify kanji and to find out some new words. It has a lot of features but I have only used a few of them so it’s extremely versatile. I have now graduated school but still keep the app because its is just really good.
