Aweful Subscription Hustle
I was dismayed to have a paper bill sent by my medical provider have their website direct me to this app, which did not deliver deliver the simple and fast payment process promised. Instead, I was forced to type full details of myself and my bank account on the tiny touch screen of my phone instead of the keyboard of my computer as I first intended. Bad enough, but the truly mortifying experience was, after giving up all my personal information and banking access, the app attempted ab add-on hustle apart from the medical bill. In effect, an errant click made it to easy for the app developer to debit my bank account -I’m sure in perpetuity without some mystery puzzle unsubscribe process - from a dubious identity protection service. Now I have to worry if I touched the wrong part of mu screen, and to pay attention to my bank charges for months in the future die to the “free trial period” and when it might start surreptitiously taking money with the banking credentials I provided to pay a legitimate medical provider, not an internet cyber hustle. This is exactly the kind of cognitive loading that exploits those of us facing life-threatening illnesses do not need. It is abusive to commingle payments from medical providers with unrelated services. This should be illegal, these practices should fall under intense scrutiny by State Attorney Generals, and the app itself should be removed at once by Apple.Show lessdannygrizzle
Could be better..
I gave four stars because I expect they do what they say they do. They, however, don’t meet my needs.
Hoping this would be a good replacement for PRISM (soon to be terminated, and to be much missed) but Papaya presently won’t. I have rentals. PRISM shined at making it easy to pull in bills, track and let me pay my multiple utility bills, as well as nearly all my personal monthly bills using multiple payment method.
Papaya won’t let you assign individual account names. They assume I only have one of each gas, electric, and water account. I can’t discern one account for electricity from another electricity account. Same goes for gas and water.
Papaya are far short of my desired wish list, but not letting me specify account names really damages their usefulness to me.
I haven’t actually used them. I assume they actually make the payments you request (I’ve seen some complaints there). For straight forward home budgeting, maybe it is fine, but they far miss the what they could actually be.Show lessEtxxx
You give your SSN, they give it away
Read the fine print. This company demands your social security number if you want to use its services, and when you dig thru fine print you’ll find that they can share it w/third parties. They don’t demand your SSN upfront. First you pay a bill, enter all your info, name, phone, address, cc and/or debit/bank acct, pay your bill, and then you are taken to the inescapable lock room where your birthdate and SSN are required for exit. No going forward or back. I just closed the app and went back to the App Store and started digging around. I found a spread sheet showing item by item how all your info, including your SSN, which you freely give them, is turned around and shared? Sold? Disseminated? to third parties.
I even deleted the app which my iPad said would destroy all data. Then I tried reinstalling. Surprise! Somehow the papaya app was able to remember the stuff that was erased when it was deleted… amazing.
I’ve sent an email to the company asking them to delete all my info. But how in the world can I trust that?
I know we live in a world where we are losing more of our privacy every day. Come on, papaya, why be so sneaky? I had to tap a star or it wouldn’t let me submit this review which probably won’t be put on the site anyway.
