Great idea, frustrating in practice.

Having been an early adopter of TGTG I’ve persevered with this despite a lot of problems recently. Those problems don’t stem from the app, which although it has its quirks, tends to work pretty well. The problems stem from suppliers some of which are worse than others. Caffè Nero tops the list there where on multiple occasions I’ve turned up to collect an ordered package only to be told there was no food left. On three of those occasions it was pretty clear this was not the case so what became of that food I don’t know. More and more often I’m also turning up and been given what best be described as “scraps”. Point in case today when I got half a bacon baguette, one tiny doughnut and a small fruit pot which even in central London most would struggle to value at the £10+ advertised. Where TGTG does excel is with the customer service, which is 99% efficient, polite and personal. I’ll leave out the name of the one individual whose response was pretty much “like or lump it”! Everyone else there - top notch. I’ll persist as long as this customer service keep up that quality.

When will more options be added?

3 month update- after 5 starting this app, I will update my review.
Stop sending notifications that aren’t applicable to your users. Telling me there’s “new restaurants in my area!” then opening it to see the same 1 restaurant is annoying.

I do love the idea of Too Good To Go, but I live in a fairly large city and there is only a single restaurant available to purchase from. Would love to see more options added in the future. The one restaurant that is available in my area has been really hit or miss. Sometimes everything is great, sometimes not. It honestly comes down to if employees are familiar with the app. A couple of times the workers didn’t know what the app/code meant and needed to call a manager before making the order (which I thought was really odd). They also didn’t know what to put in it, so it wasn’t very plentiful, even for the discounted price. Other times it is a great mix of food and it’s ready to go in their check out stand! Really bizarre. Those two gripes aside, it’s a wonderful concept and I’m excited to see more features/places get added in the future!

Great app terrible businesses associated

I think the app is truly a great concept and it can definitely help both businesses and consumers. However in my experience using the app some businesses are essentially using the service to turn trash into profit rather than potential waste into a decent meal. Prices vary based on business some businesses charge $10 for literal scraps. There needs to be some sort of quality control or some sort of requirement. I shouldn’t have to toss out the food they give because it’s just inedible. We should be able to leave visible reviews on the restaurants we ordered from so there’s more transparency. After having 2 bad experiences in a row I cannot be the only one feeling like with the popularity of the app abuse is inevitable. If a visible review is shared on the app I think it would keep businesses more honest and prevent a bit of nonsense. I don’t expect the best of the best or an over abundance but I definitely don’t want to pay $5-10 then come home and throw away inedible food.

Too good to be true

Today, I learned about too good to go via Facebook. I downloaded the app excitedly bought three surprise bags from three different stores (Metro, Tim Horton’s and Amir’s). All three stores confirmed that it simply is a promotion of about 30% and has nothing to do with food that will potentially be wasted.
In Metro, the App says that the value of the bag is 21 dollars given away for 7.99. What I received was worth about 14 dollars.
In Tim Horton’s I was given a small box with 6 baked goods. The value is 8 dollars (if selected and bought individually). I argued and showed that the app says it is a 15 dollar surprise bag for the price of 4.99. After 10 minutes of arguing with the poor lady, she gave up and threw a second box in front of me and said that she will take it on her boss!
In Amir’s the guy gave me a plate of vegetarian food. I asked about the regular price and he confirmed that it is sold for 13 dollars. When I showed him that the app says it is a 21 dollar surprise bag for 6.99 (I payed 9.10 after tax), he said that all he knows is that he must give a vegi plate to whoever purchases the surprise bag through the too good to go app!
I came back home and immediately deleted the app! My first day was my last day!

My app of the year

I think your success with this app will vary depending on your location. So far I’ve had great success but I’m fortunate to have a lot of local, independent cafes, bakeries, and coffee shops. The items I’ve received have been amazing and I’ve saved so much money and reduced food waste at the same time! A lot of stuff I’ve also been able to freeze, extending the life of the items even further. I’ve had a couple of orders get cancelled by the store because they had nothing to give, which is fine, but would prefer to be warned sooner. I was already in the car on the way to one of them. Ignore the reviews who complain about food being past their ‘best before’ - that’s the whole point of the app! “Best before” doesn’t mean it’s not safe to eat. You may have challenges if you suffer from allergies because you usually have no idea what you’re going to get. My son, who is allergic to cows milk, hasn’t been able to eat anything we’ve had.

Unresponsive customer service

I like this service in theory. I want to use it more. However, the second time I used this service the restaurant refused the order at pick up and insisted, I request a refund through the app. I logged the problem ticket through the app and was told I would hear back within two business days, but that was three weeks ago when I go back into the app to log a new complaint, it recognizes I already have a complaint outstanding on the order and won’t let me submit a new one so I am out the money for the order, and there seems to be no recourse or way to get a hold of anyone on the app or on the company website.

How does Surprise Bag offer sell out every day within a second of offer?

Generally very very happy with the entire concept of Two Good To Go. It’s an inexpensive ( mostly) fun food surprise. If it helps with food waste ( maybe) even better!
The single thing that perplexes or confounds me is the stores that offer surprise bags at a designated time “check back later at 9:16” , for example. I have attempted to acquire some surprise bag offers for weeks at the designated time, but no matter my “readiness”
to pounce on the offer, it sells out instantly. I am saying instantly- turns say 9:00 pm & the surprise bag is gone by 9:00:01 seconds. I am sure that people, maybe the same people every day? Have figured out how to set up the transaction for instant purchase. Maybe the business is only making one offer, however it is still instantly gone every day. Not quickly, instantly.
Perhaps I am just not quick enough for the very popular offers, other than that I enjoy the whole idea of TwoGoodToGo very much, it’s quite a clever concept.

Great app & idea, would love Gluten-free as a filter option

I discovered this app today and I’m so excited! Grocery prices are outrageous right now and having the option to save money while also keeping food out of the landfill is so wonderful. The app is super easy to use and the options are pretty diverse. This is such an excellent and timely idea and implementation!

I was really surprised to see that when presented with options to filter choices there is an option for vegetarian and vegan but not gluten-free, even though several of the businesses have gluten-free options listed in their online menus and society is embracing gluten-free eating in growing numbers each year.

My final critique is that even though there is a tab to click labeled “allergies and ingredients,” there are never any listed, just a generic message to check with the listed store. It just seems like if your surprise bag regularly contains a major anaphylactic allergen like eggs, corn, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, dairy, fish, or shellfish, that could be added to the generic message to save lives, plus save time and energy for all involved. When selling food items, it’s the expedient and responsible thing to do. For these reasons I felt like I could only give four stars for now.

Such a great app

This is such a wonderful app. I have loved using it and gotten so much food through it.

I love the map feature and searching based on your location. I love that when you click on a stop you can have the choice of google or Apple Maps to get directions. It makes it so easy. Purchasing and picking up seems to be so easy.

There are a few things that I think would make it better.
1. The sorting options should show you things in order of the pick up time. I got out of a work training yesterday and wanted to see if I could grab dinner anywhere. There as an option but it took me a while to search through. I’d love to see an option to see the items listed by pick up time. I would spend more money on here if it was quicker access.
2. I feel as though I have to look through multiple locations to actually see all the different places that are offering food that isn’t sold out. I don’t even know if the Browse shows them all or not. I wish there was one spot to know I was visually seeing them all.
3. I wish there was a way to hide stores you don’t like. I will never order from this one donut shop in our town and they have 3 locations. I don’t like their donuts and yet every day I have to scroll through their listing for multiple of their locations. I wish there was a way to just hide the company as I will never purchase from there

Again these are all things that would make me buy more and use this more. Great app and concept and I love it. Take my money!

Frustrating

I Would dearly love it if this app worked consistently, but it doesn’t. The “vegan“ option in the user profile does nothing. The providers evidently never see it and are not bound in anyway to accommodate it. I’ve found that I have to be careful to look over any store’s entire menu because if there’s anything on it that I wouldn’t eat it doesn’t make any sense to pay for something that I’m going to throw away anyway. “Saving a meal” should mean an actual meal. I get that lots of donut places have leftovers and I wouldn’t expect to pick up a meal there. But if I go into a vegan establishment expecting to pick up a “meal“ and being told by the app that I’ve just saved “a meal“but I get eight chocolate bars, that doesn’t work at all. One way to look at the upshot of all of this is that the app is for people who want to save a meal but who have the money to gamble on whether or not they will actually get some thing that will sustain them. I hate to think of someone who’s using the app because they actually need to save some money on food and they end up with chocolate bars. And another layer of aggravation is there’s one restaurant who I believe actually tries to put together amigo and does their best to avoid ingredients that might elicit an allergic response. So sometimes it does work, but it’s just once out of the half dozen experiences.
