  • Doubled my setup time because it lost connection to the APIr?

Had the Puck setup; but the app lost connection “to the API,” so it’s redoing everything while the mini split is super cooling my bedroom. After much frustration (and further refrigeration of my bedroom), I got it set up. Nothing is intuitive about this.

The UI is just weird. Setting times for the schedule is just so bizarre. There’s no way to set a “heat to” temp and a “cool to” temp, you have to trust the app to switch at whatever temps it chooses or do so manually. It really makes me miss my central HVAC with the Honeywell smart thermostat.

  • Temp is below set point, why is it blowing cold air?

I’m about ready to give up and just use the minisplit controller. The geofencing isn’t worth this. The idea is to _save_ energy.

The interface just doesn’t look like an iOS app. That said, it has geofencing and scheduling. It’s not even hard to figure out, just aesthetically unsatisfying. It needs HomeKit integration. I want it to be part of my wake-up and go to bed routines. It’s supposed to automatically switch between heat and cool; but it doesn’t have two set points (heat to 66, cool to 78 for example, as I did with my old thermostat), so it’s not useful.

  • Excellent except for cloud dependence

The vents, puck, and app work well. I can’t recommend this yet because there is no local control. Everything goes through Flair’s external service which, if it goes down or Flair goes out of business, will render this system useless. HomeKit integration would be a step in the right direction. Allowing home assistant users to talk locally to the puck would be the optimal solution. Worst case scenario the vents come apart easily and you could solder a microcontroller to the existing motor. Flair should really get Matter integration working if they want to be the undisputed champion of smart DIY HVAC. For now, if anyone else comes along and offers zigbee, zwave, or even a Shelly-like API attached to a motorized vent, I’ll switch to them in a heartbeat.

  • What are you waiting for?

I have researched smart vents for 5 years. I finally found Flair and all the information was promising.
I wanted vents to remotely control various room temperature by automatically opening and closing vent to redirect airflow as required.
The larger your home or work place the more efficiently they work.
I only wanted to close off three rooms when not in use. I also wanted these rooms to be comfortable when guests were using them.
I finally found the answer through Flair products. They have the variety of products that allow you to build your system as needed or just count your vents and order them all.
Their customer support is awesome so if you need any help with design or products they have you covered.

  • Does the job, but it could be so much better

The interface just doesn’t look like an iOS app. That said, it has geofencing and scheduling. It’s not even hard to figure out, just aesthetically unsatisfying.

It needs HomeKit integration. I want it to be part of my wake-up and go to bed routines.

It’s supposed to automatically switch between heat and cool; but it doesn’t have two set points (heat to 66, cool to 78 for example, as I did with my old thermostat), so it’s not useful. It really is impressive how much it does for the price, but I’d encourage them move to a better aesthetic and build quality.

  • App could use improvement

App does not display correctly on iPhone 14/15, as the buttons to go back are not really in the usable space above by the island. So the scaling needs to be fixed. It also would be nice, at a glance on the main view, to be able to see if the vents are open or close for all the rooms, rather than needing to click in to each room individually just to see open or closed status. (Even a colored dot next to the temperature for the room could indicate open or closed). Then if you ‘can’ click the back button, it resets the view so you have to scroll all the way down to whatever room you were viewing rather than going back to where you were in the app. Like most reviews state, the app seems like an afterthought even though it really should drive the product.

  • Slow to respond if it does at all

I’ve had trouble with the app responding slowly in the past but last night based on setpoint and temp, the vent should have opened. The room was 66deg so I opened it manually to get the room warmer. Once the room was warmer I returned the vent to auto but it remains in manual and won’t go back to auto. It’s been 12+ hours, and I’ve uploaded the most recent app. Too cantankerous for me to make any more investments into this product.

  • Needs to not yo-yo heat/cool mode so frequently

For our home it often heats the house but because we have new efficient AC it gets to hot, so it switches to cooling, then it gets too cold, so it switches to heating, and then we tear our sweaty hair out. The solution is so simple but engineering are not in a hurry to fix it. They need to add a delay since the last event before which it won’t switch modes. Example: Heating turns off, 45 min timer starts, Flair won’t switch to cool until 45 mins is up AND only if the house still needs cooling. This would solve the issue because the house would naturally level, balance, cool itself by then.

  • Really really finicky

I’ve had 3 Flair Pucks for about a year and a half. While I appreciate having connectivity with Lennox mini splits (no other devices will connect, such as ecobee or nest) - the Flair Pucks are SO buggy and finicky. I’m sitting in front of my living room Mini-Split right now and I’ve tried 4x unsuccessfully to turn it off using the Flair app. The Minisplit SAYS it’s off on the app … but it most certainly is not. I toggle on/off. I go slowly. I wait. Nothing. This is a big problem when I’m away from home and trying to turn the AC or heat on or off. I am led to believe (by the Flair app) that it’s off. But no, my house had AC running full blast for a week while I was gone. Great.
Also there’s missing functionality that the IR remotes have, such as turning off the LED on the minisplit or turbo mode or fan blade controls.

I’m glad we have the ability to control our mini splits from our phones, that is when the Flair Pucks actually work.

  • Product is great - App is terrible

The smart vents and pucks have TRUELY transformed my home and made it so much more comfortable. That said this app is genuinely awful. It’s super buggy, attaching devices to rooms/zones/etc is desperately confusing and it’s really easy to disconnect devices from other rooms unintentionally. Please flair, spend some money on good iOS developers and get this app up to snuff with the quality of your physical products and it would completely change the usability of your products.
