  • Seriously

Load my card with more money this morning and it keeps telling me it’s not working (all 3 times) but next thing I know it worked “all 3 times!” But in my iPhone wallet it still shows my last value before I got charged 3 times and I go and use it to board the MAX orange line and it doesn’t change anything on the wallet screen but in app history shows that I was charged but I’m unable to show any type of proof except for in my history. Now I’m freaking out because the Trimet police always board and do their fare checks and of course it happened but they never got to me...even though I was prepared to explain the situation and show them that it deducted in my history but somethings not working! However, it has been my past experience with the Trimet fare checkers that in situations that are not black and white, they tend to struggle with how to handle it and in the mean time I’m likely going to get frustrated because I have places to be and dealing with an app that is unreliable. There was nothing wrong with the old Trimet app and I hate this stupid Hop pass!

  • “Fixed” near-perfect TriMet Tickets app with this buggy mess

The old tickets app worked perfectly. This new app is a mess. First it wouldn’t let me pay at all. Finally figured out how to load the app with funds the first time, though it never did link properly with iPay (which I refuse to use generally...why force me to use it for this?!).

Riding TriMet is now an anxiety-inducing event, because half the time the app doesn’t register that I’ve “paid” my fare until much later. And another portion of the time it takes a few tries for the readers on bus or MAX to acknowledge my swipe. Hopefully fare checkers on MAX are understanding?!

When I ran out of money and had to reload the card, it took two calls to the help desk to finally figure it all out. The app kept telling me the purchases weren’t going through but it turns out the app was charging my card the whole time. An annoyance for me but a potentially big deal for someone on a tight budget.

Just get the plastic card and save yourself the headaches. And TriMet, people rely on your otherwise great service to get to work, buy groceries...live their lives. I get that bugs happen, but this is on a whole new scale. If you can’t fix the problem, maybe it’s time to acknowledge that and go back to what worked just fine before.

  • Works well

This has worked well for me, so it’s unfortunate to read in the reviews the trouble others have experienced.

I’ve used the app linked to a physical Hop Card, and also now once I converted the Hop Card to a virtual Hop Card, which I have separately loaded into my Apple Wallet.

Frankly it has done everything I’ve needed and I’ve never had trouble. I love having my card be virtual, as it’s one less thing for me to carry around.

With this app and card Portland really does feel like it’s at the head of the curve, when compared to transit systems and cards such as the ORCA card in the Puget Sound region. Tapping via Hop is quick and easy to board and transfer, and with the app I can see a history of my activity.

  • Error - will not accept any payment

Every time I try to add money to the card, either through Apple Pay or by manually adding a card, there is an error message claiming that Hop cannot accept payment. This app is affectively useless—and I am stressing out. I am relying on MAX to get me to school Monday-Friday, yet there are no other ways I can pay my fair. I’ve been troubleshooting on and off for a week with this app, even going so far as to creating a new account with a different email and paying an additional $3 for a new card, yet the same problem persists. PLEASE FIX THIS PROBLEM

  • What the heck

Great when it works — about 80% of the time. The other 20% it’s embarrassing, I’m thankful the bus stops I frequent possess drivers that recognize me & let me on still when my app elects not to work. Definitely worried about when I’m on the MAX & security raids it.
Today Hop pushed me over the edge with a declined red X on the machine in front of the bus driver even though it says I have $8 loaded. The app also loves to not connect to my Wallet which is required to Hop on with an iPhone. Extremely frustrating.
I used to have the Trimet app for years that we didn’t have to virtually punch onto & it worked great. Though it sucked when there was no warning & the app just stopped working & I had to quickly download Hop, pay the $3 initiation & load money on there in the small amount of time I had waiting for the bus.
I guess you got me Trimet, I’m done. I have no choice but to spend even more money buying a physical card to avoid this terrible app that should work but instead starts or ends my day with panic.

  • TriMet Tickets app was way better and not broken

Huge step in the wrong direction with Hop. I’ve used transit apps in multiple major cities and this is the worst. Tickets was up there with the best.

App won’t always scan - causing you to choose between missing your train/bus or hoping the driver has mercy and lets you ride because they know it’s buggy.

Not rider friendly, not easier to use. And let’s go ahead and bring this up: With the bugs in the system, they have to be losing money on this over the previous system. From an agency that already hemorrhages money and has fare enforcement issues; is this what “progress” looks like? Wow.

  • Whyyyyy

Why did you get rid of the other app? Well now that you’ve already made that mistake, please fix this hop app.. I just tried to board a bus and looked like a lunatic hold my phone in every position imaginable trying to get it to scan meanwhile all the people on board were looking irritated as the bus driver waited for my app to be acknowledged. She told me to restart my app. Tried that. Didn’t work. Restarted my phone completely. That didn’t work. Finally, irritated enough the driver told me to sit down. I felt like I had let HER down in same way!

  • So far so good!

So far the app has worked flawlessly. It accepted my payment and scanned easily the first time on both of my bus rides. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because initially the app is a bit challenging to navigate. After I successfully used it once though, it became pretty simple and straightforward. Hopefully I won’t run into any of the issues other people have!

  • Don’t waste your money with this app!

I’m a high school student who had been using the TriMet ticket app for three years to get to and from school. When I heard the app was being discontinued, I was a little upset, and was also confused as to why.

I had to download this app so that I could go to school. However, when I tried to add a virtual card with Apple Pay, all it did was take my money and refuse to give me a virtual card to use. I tried again with a new card. It did not work. I tried a third time; zilch. I logged into my account from Safari—there were my cards, all loaded up, but I could not use them from there or from the app. Essentially, I have now put away $85 to a thing I can’t even use. I’m looking for a refund and am going to try to switch to a physical card. I am still waiting on support to get back to me. In the meantime, PLEASE try to avoid this app. It’s incredibly unreliable and makes things much more difficult than they have to be.

  • Complete FAIL

    Dear Trimet,

Why do you make it so hard to get on a bus via app? Almost seems as though you don’t want people purchasing tickets this way. Old app was far superior, and now I’ve missed an hour worth of busses, trying to set up an app that won’t work. Look at your ratings for this app, that should give you a clue. Why are you spending unnecessary taxpayer money to build such garbage? I don’t want to use Apple Pay! And was I offered any reparation for this day that has been wasted, merely to set up a broken piece of trash? Nope. I’ll be paying cash from here on out, and you’ll be hearing from this critic frequently until this is resolved.
