  • Poor quality app

I bought this camera from the car dealership and still cannot get the app to work with the camera and I’ve had this vehicle for over a month. I tried resetting it I tried deleting the app and reinstalling it I’ve tried everything I possibly can and it still won’t work and the dealership is no help.
  • Obsolescence. Will never buy this...

....brand again. I have a perfectly working dashcam but since the app only works with newer computers they don’t allow to interface with my dashcam now making it obsolete. I will have to throw it away and buy another brand. The app crashes with a blank gray screen anytime I want to view a video. I have a new Samsung Tablet and now the dashcam won’t work with a newer computer. Idiot developers.

  • It works

It works fine, looks like all the bad reviews are from people who don’t understand how WiFi works and/or their trying to use the app with a non supported camera. Works fine with the F200, allows you to live view the cameras, watch back recordings, and change a few settings. It’s not the most pretty app, but it works

  • Absolute rubbish interface

This is without doubt the worst app ever for a device that needs an interface to be even remotely useful. I would recommend that Thinkware stop developing such a wide range of cameras and instead focus on getting the basics right. This app is embarrassing dreadful. It simply will not connect to its own wifi. The camera and the app simply won’t allow me to access the menus within the camera. I’ve now got a double beep for the accident warning every time I go over a pothole and have no way of turning it off as it point blank refuses to let me connect. Once every 65 maybe 70 attempt I may get in and it is absolute blind luck. I do everything as the app instruct and after 1 minute it states that ‘no attempt has been made to connect’ and it then goes onto look for a hotspot, which is also just as unhelpful. Thinkware, fix this app. It is an absolute joke and I for one will start buying BlackVue products until your attitude to the very basics of your products changes.

  • You don’t need this app to configure your cam nor to watch videos

You don’t need this app to configure your dash cam. Just plug the memory card into your computer, go to the settings folder, click on the settings file and configure there. Reinstall memory card and you’re done

In the case of an accident you often cannot use this app because it requires the dash cam to have power. Ie. Engine running. Just buy a micro SD reader for your particular smartphone, throw it into the glovebox and you’re good to go.

These hints will save you hours of frustration. The cams are awesome. This app, not so much.

  • Works fine.

Other review helped. You need to ‘forget network’ when you’re finished / before you re-connect, every time. Not really a problem it’s not like you connect to it that frequently takes an extra 10 seconds. Not one issue all features works fine. F200
  • Horrible software / Impressive hardware (U1000)

Setting up and connecting an account isn’t as straight forward as it should be. Took me several attempts over a few hours to work out the exact sequence the app wanted to connect to a WiFi hot spot.

If you power down the unit or simply want to switch connections from WiFi to your phone / Hotspot you need to setup a new connection every time, which is annoying.

UI/UX needs a complete overhaul, and the cloud features are minimal.

If you persist you can get it to work and it’s quite stable. Bit of a shame the software is lacking since the hardware is excellent.

  • Q800 Pro

Let me start by saying the quality of the dash-cam is outstanding. Recorded an accident yesterday and provided footage to Highway Patrol. The Trooper commented on the outstanding video quality.

The one star rating and reason for not purchasing the same unit for my other vehicles has to do with the mobile App and desktop functionality.

First time setup is over complicated, I can only view files by taking out the memory card, and cannot access settings from the app even though I purchased a standalone hotspot for continuous connectivity.

The amount of reviews providing awareness of software related issues are substantial. I’m going on a year with the device, the shameful part is absolutely no progress has been made with software.

  • U1000

Strange, can’t alter any of the cam settings with latest iPad on latest iOS, and yet it says it’s compatible with this iPad.

I can see file lists and watch videos, click on settings then nothing?.

    Everything else works....fine.
  • Love the dash cam but app needs work...

I bought the Thinkware q800 pro and I like the quality and design. It does not have a display on the camera itself (which I prefer) so most of the camera settings and viewing must be done through this app. This is where things start to get glitchy and aggravating.

Thinkware cameras are not cheap and I feel the company should back those prices up with premium build quality, well designed software, and customer support. First, this app looks like it was slapped together and nothing was well thought out. The WiFi connection to the camera is hit and miss. The video player is terrible due to freezing and skipping when trying to play the video without downloading it first. If you download it, it will play much better but it is also slow. You are also supposed to be able to connect the camera to your phone’s hotspot and upload videos to the cloud. I attempted this several times and could not get this to work even after enabling network communication.

The app does get the job done (eventually) and since I do not need to use it often I will learn to live with it. However, Thinkware needs to invest in some good application development. I do like the camera and will be keeping it but if software doesn’t improve over time I will look elsewhere next time I’m looking to buy one.
