Here’s my experience with HOPR. At first, I thought HOPR was the smartest thing ever. But the more I used it, the more flaws arose.
1. It is hard to locate HOPR parking. The HOPR app only shows parking locations but isn’t helpful enough to show where exactly those locations are. I wasted an extra 10 minutes of charge because I couldn’t find a parking location. It’s also really inconvenient since u have to hold ur phone while ur biking. AKa dangerous.
2. Extra Charge. ONTOP of not being able to find parking, they charged me an extra $2 since the bike couldn’t register that it was parked in the correct location. But it was. Right in the square, although the square was father than usual from the sign which could’ve been the reason as to why it didn’t register. But that shouldn’t happen. Cuetomers should have to pay the price of HOPR’s inability to draw the square in the correct location. This inconsistency is a big drawback of this app.
3. The quality of the bikes are disappointing. U got to be super lucky one day to be able to get a bike in an ok condition. They either have semi broken brakes, or ripped chairs ar damaged handles.
4. If ur in a rush, find a more reliable way of transportation. It’s extremely difficult to find a parking location unless u are already familiar with the area. Plus, the app might charge u extra if the parking location is not in a busy area (in my case, it was behind a building). I say this because that’s exactly what happened to me.
If ur a student, just bring ur own bike. But a cheap one if ur scared of getting it stolen. Don’t trust that HOPR will save you time. It has never for me.
