  • Great music player

I found this app while searching for an alternative to Plexamp, after really butting heads with its limitations. I was already a user of the Prologue app, so it was an easy choice to try another app of similar design flow by the same dev, and I am very happy with the transition. Much more flexibility in displaying and filtering through my music library, and much better handling of downloads as well. The only thing I seem to be missing is the ability to toggle shuffle while already in the middle of playing a track (say, from a playlist or album), rather than only having it as an option when originally starting to play from the playlist/album. Sometimes I want to shuffle but know which song I want to listen to first, but the only workaround [Shuffle Playlist > Find desired song > Play Next > Next song > Find previous song that came up first on shuffle that now you still want to listen to > Play Next] is so clunky. The only other app I’ve ever seen missing this feature is SoundCloud and even they added the relatively basic feature in. I would consider re-rating to 5 stars if this feature was added in a future update. Other features that would be nice to haves: - Ability to remove songs from queue by swipe action to avoid having to accidentally play a song and ruin all the work you did to line up a good queue before a workout/shower/etc. - Ability to switch to see play history when looking at queue below the now playing screen
    - Sleep timer

  • Abandoned?

This app hasn’t been updated in over a year. The foundation for something great is here, and this dev has certainly proved their abilities with the Prologue app for audiobooks, but Plexamp is probably a better choice until this app shows signs of life. Plexamp might not be utterly flawless, but it is getting regular updates and new features. You’re gonna need to purchase the premium version of Prisim to really get the features you want (downloads, refined sorting, etc.), but again, there’s just no upkeep here. If you run into an issue or find something broken, that’s it.

  • Extremely Effective

I really appreciate the effort here. Whereas PlexAmp focuses a bit more on eye-candy over functionality, Prism demonstrates a clear commitment to usability. Offline and online listening is well thought out and unified. Downloading tracks is managed within a tab, but everything shows within one centralized library view (not two like PlexAmp does). Tracks and albums show tags if downloaded. THEN, you can easily filter the entire library by “downloaded”, and now you have your localized library suitable for commuting through cellular dead zones. Moreover, I downloaded hundreds of tracks at one time, with no crashes or issues. Very stable.

  • 5 Stars when the Developer Updates

This is a frustrating review to write, because objectively this app is fantastic. The UI is clean and intuitive, it integrates with PLEX and Apple Music beautifully, and is worlds better than Plex’s own PlexAmp.

However, this app hasn’t been touched in a year. If you look at the developers posts on twitter and Reddit, they have made many promises to add features as far back as 3 years ago, none of which have been implemented. The developer’s focus is clearly on Prologue, and that’s fine, but they’ve left Prism to gather dust. Which is a shame since it could be the perfect music app. Because of this I would not recommend purchasing this app, simply because you’re not funding further development.

That being said, I would happily pay the purchase price again if the developer were to focus on updating this app with the features originally promised.

Ultimately, if the developer is going to let this app fall into obscurity through lack of development, I’d request that they open source it, so the community can continue its development.

  • The Only Plex Music App That Does What I Want

This app does everything I need it to do. There's no stupid limits such as only being able to have 24 hours worth of music downloaded from a playlist or my music mixed up like other Plex apps do. This lets me have my playlist the way I have them set up on Plex and there's no limits. It works perfectly and I don't see myself using anything as for my music on Plex.

  • Almost the perfect app

Prism w/ a Plex music library is the best music experience I've had on mobile. Only features missing for me: -edit Plex playlists -*save filters as pinned searches* or the like -"compact" view for artist listing without the photos. The thumbnails are helpful for me in album view where Irecognize them, but the random photos Plex picks for artists don't really add any value and just mean more scrolling. Also, for some reason capital letters are sorted before lowercase in the artist listing (ie. DJ Shadow comes before Dangermouse). Would be great if this was fixed!

  • A must if you have a NAS!

This app is probably one of the greatest streaming music player I’ve ever seen, it’s much better than the clumsy Plexamp original. It also can play SACD very well which is a plus! I’ve been looking for a good streaming music player for my Synology for a while, but this app solved everything! 10/10!
  • It just works.

After much frustration with PlexAmp, I went looking for an alternative and found Prism. The last straw for PlexAmp was tonight all it showed was a blank black screen. No indication it was doing anything or that it had some sort of problem connecting to my Plex server. Just blackness. I installed Prism and had my Plex music library loaded in less than a minute. No headaches. No mysterious failure to load. It just worked.

What sold me is the fact that my Apple music is loaded right alongside my Plex music. Now I don’t have to remember where the song I want to listen to was purchased a decade ago. That by itself is worth $4.99.

Downloads for offline listening are super simple too. And fast. Downloading an album took less than 20 seconds. Now I can listen to my music in places where cellular service is nonexistent.

Finally, the interface is simple and clean, and it follows Apple’s standards so I don’t have to hunt around for stuff like AirPlay so I can play on my Roku soundbar.

This is what I have been wanting for years. Bye bye PlexAmp and Apple Music.
