  • Can’t deposit anymore

What’s up with this app??? I can’t make deposits on it anymore. It constantly freezes on the verify screen. Then after a while the app just closes by itself. I called customer service and they told me people with iPhone 12 are having problems depositing. She took down the problem I was having asked what kind of phone I was using (iPhone 12 pro max) and said she would get back to me the next day with an answer. It’s been two weeks and no one has called. I see the app was updated hoping that the problem was fixed. Still can’t make any deposits. Is anyone going to take care of this?

  • Outdated and not user friendly

If there was an award for most outdated bank app with bugs and unfriendly user flow - HSBC bank would be a clear winner.

Passcode creation, activation process, even emails they send are incredibly bad and non user friendly.
  • Terrrible

Terrible app, terrible customer service and not at all focussed on supporting the customer. Worst bank I have ever been with.
  • Minimal at best

Very clunky design and not user-friendly. After downloading one app, takes you to the App Store to download another app, which you would think they could figure out a way to point you to the correct app the first time. Then after downloading, for credit card customers , you can only pay your bill online if you have an HSBC bank account. Every other company I’ve used for credit cards allows you to pay bills on your phone, you’d think this company could put a little effort in to at least match the rest, but that isn’t the case here. Just an overall bad app experience, but I guess at least I can view my balance, which is better than I could do on my phone 20 years ago 🙄

  • Secure Device activation does not work

I can’t complete the very basic setup - activate secure device & enable face id.

    When I start activation process
    - I get and enter activation code
    - Then get and enter validation code
    - Then I see screen ‘Digital Security Device passcode’
    - It has two text fields - for entering passphrase and repeating it. I enter passphrase, but then try to tap on second input to repeat but keyboard is not popped up on tap so I can’t enter anything. As I can’t enter anything to second field, Activate button is disabled and I can’t complete it

  • Useless

This app takes several steps just to log in if you haven’t set up Face ID, which it conveniently forgets every few weeks so you need to set it up again. And then once you’re in the app, you can’t do anything of any value!! You cannot pay your bill, you can’t see you Current Balance - only charges that have cleared the bank which can take 7-10 business days; you can’t dispute a charge if someone stole your identity, you can’t freeze your card if you lost it or your wallet was stolen. It’s basically the most complicated way to see your statement from last month.

Customer service is useless, it takes forever on hold, you can barely understand the representative, and they can’t tell you what your pending charges are or your current balance either; they tell you they have to “clear the bank from the merchant side which can take 7-10 business days”
No Other banking institution has this problem - I have cards with CITI, Discover and Chase; all of which have amazing apps. I was duped into getting a HSBC card b/c they offer 23 month 0% APR and I just bought a house so I thought it would be a great way to get settled and not have to pay interest for my first 2 years. Should have known it was too good to be true.
The hassle is not worth it, I have paid my balance and I’m closing this account.

  • How hard is it to get into 21st century?

HSBC’s is the only banking app that doesn’t give you the option to pay your HSBC credit card with an external bank account (from another bank). So every single month I have to log in through their outdated website in order to pay my CC bill. I have credit cards with most of the big banks in the US, and HSBC is the only one that seems incapable of accepting the fact that my primary checking account that I pay from is with another bank. How preposterous of me, I know. In vain, I keep updating the app with the futile hope that one day it will actually work like an app and save me some login hassles. Alas...

  • Barely does what it should

Check deposit feature is maddening! It regularly does not recognize machine printed checks and I often have to try many times (10 or more) before it works. You might wonder why I persist, but this is still preferable to going to the bank because HSBC has closed my branch.

Also, unlike on the website, you cannot see future dated checks on the App. How hard would it be to add this simple feature to the App? This reduces the value of the App since I still need to go to the website. So I do all mobile banking other than check deposit on the website.

While I’m at it, the bill payee feature on the website is maddening because you can’t change the address on a payee. You have to delete the address and add the payee back on with the new address. Also, if you have to leave the bill payee section for any reason (e.g. to verify the amount of a new payment), you get bounced out of the section and have to start a bill payee transaction from scratch.

  • Good, but there should be a spot to see your pending mobile deposits

Mobile deposits are already a little sketchy, and HSBC (unlike other banks) doesn’t show pending mobile deposits in your activity log right after you take a picture of the check. It would be nice if they could have a section for pending mobile deposits just to have peace of mind as a user that you actually do have mobile deposits pending (instead of wondering whether they were immediately rejected or something went wrong).

  • Check deposit not great

I enjoy the ease and convenience of the app overall. However, I continue to struggle with the check deposit feature. I follow all suggestions of having a dark background, using the flash, etc. On my phone the image of the check to be deposited is clear and within the boundaries but often I get a message saying the check is unreadable and have to try multiple times (at times in the 20s and 40s) to get a successful deposit. It’s very frustrating. There isn’t an HSBC near me and with the pandemic this is a feature I need to be able to rely on.
