  • No more paper journals

In my 10 years of pro symphony playing, I have filled 12 large music practice diaries... mostly with time and date and just what I was practicing. They helped me plan and reflect on my practice, and I definitely credit my audition wins to better organization and focus. This app gives me all that (though I look forward to better note taking & time review), but it gives it to me in such an effortless way. I only have to type in what I’m practicing once, then it’s a button push away. I build a playlist like “recital” with all my recital pieces on it, set timers, and start practicing. The star ratings keep me honest - and so does the all central recording feature. Deliberate practice feature (“improve” button) is cool although I should probably use it more 😬

  • An Excellent App For Practicing Musicians

The user interface of this application is very user friendly. I have had no issues scheduling practice times and content, and the additional features allow for simple tracking of practice performance across any period of time. Seems to be an excellent companion app for musicians of all levels.
  • Can’t love this app enough!

This app is truly amazing. It allows you to structure your practice and it gives you the opportunity to review and contemplate how you did at the end of each rep and session. Studies show that being able to recall and write down what happened can lead to a higher retention in information overall. The support staff is wonderful. Always very communicative and responsive of any problems that may happen.

  • Bluetooth Issues

If you use Bluetooth headphones the audio becomes degraded for all your apps while it is open which makes it impossible to use while transcribing, learning a vocal piece, or any other music app you may use to practice with. This issue continues even when the app is open in the background so I had to remember to close it after every use otherwise when I went to go listen to music or a podcast the audio sounded like a walkie talkie.

I’ve stopped using it because the Bluetooth audio is so bad. I hope this issue gets resolved someday because it is a great idea and as a whole a wonderful practice tool. The audio issues have just made it unusable for my practice routine.

Hi Brian! This is Jared from Modacity support. I really appreciate your honest review. We want Modacity to be a great tool for musicians, so we need to know how to improve. • Fantastic practice tool

Like all the other reviews on here, this app is a great practice tool and I use it quite a bit. That being said, the subscription price is way off and this app is not worth $100+ a year. I would gladly pay $2-$3 a month, but I am canceling my subscription after this month because there are practice apps out there that don’t cost an arm and a leg.

  • Terrific app ....but......

This is a great app. I use it to structure all my practice sessions. Wish I’d had this years ago. My practice is now much more focused and I can see real progress....and I’m only using the free version. The “but?”....it’s just too expensive to get the monthly subscription. I don’t mind paying for good apps (and don’t get me wrong this is a superb app) but I’ll be using this for many years to come and the subscription will quickly add up to a small fortune. How about a reasonable one-off fee?

  • Great idea, lacks iPad support

It looks like Modacity does exactly what I want in a practice app. Except all of my other music apps support the iPad and work in landscape mode. This one doesn’t - it runs in iPhone compatibility mode, like a giant iPhone sideways on my screen. So I’m stuck looking at it sideways, or trying to rotate my iPad (which is mounted on a stand, and difficult to rotate). I really want to use this app. Please make native iPad support!

  • Such a great practice helper

I am a Music Major in my undergrad and I highly recommend this app to every musician out there. It really helps hold you accountable to make sure you’re on top of your game. Also, it helps you organize your practice in a efficient way.
  • I’m sold

At first I thought “do I really need this app. I already log all my practice session details, plan my routine items in advance, etc”. But the reality is this app does make the whole process more efficient and gives you handy stats at a glance. And it saves time. Without it you have to rewrite the same notes every day (15 minutes on diminished arpeggios, 15 minutes on whole tone arpeggios, etc.). With this app, all of that is preconfigured ahead of time so that you just create the list of things you want in your to-do list and then tick them off as you go. Serious musicians know that time one of our most precious commodities and this app helps to maximize it. Also, it’s really nice not to have to toggle between different apps to get drones, metronomes etc. I’m loving this thing!
