  • Terrible software

The mini thermometer itself seems ok but the software is anything but intuitive. I find myself rapping all over the place and nothing happens. Sometimes the cook just disappears. Worse than that if you lose your wireless connection in mid-cook it forgets EVERYTHING including the custom name I gave that particular cook. I’ve used the MEATER brand since it came out and their software is about perfect. I bought this for smaller pieces of meat and continue to struggle with the software.

  • Wish I had this 20 years ago

Spoiled rotten now: I would never cook without these again. Without knowing the ambient temperature inside the grill, much less the meat, it is amazing I was a successful as I was. Now the Cooking is just about error free. Thanks guys.
  • Two Years and Out

I have had so many issues with MeatStick. App crashes, broken sticks, bad reads you name it! I will say support was great to work with and fixed the broken stick problems with no charge to me every time. However, I can’t remember if I ever had a flawless cook. Something always went wrong in one way or another in regards to the stick or the app. I’m calling quits as it just doesn’t live up to the hype!

  • Quality Product

I always hear stories about how probes never last, i don’t remember how many cooks in on now but I have not had one problem. Still on the primal batteries I installed on the first day.
  • Great way to keep track of your cooks

Works great with smokers and BBQ’s. Have to watch out for high fire flare up on grill, stick will not put up with direct flame contact. Made that mistake once. Outstanding customer service! Definitely recommend.
  • Bluetooth is Weak

This is a really well made thermometer, and can withstand high cooking temps. However, I have a pit boss 820 pellet smoker and every time I try using the MeatStick mini, it loses connection when I close the lid. It wouldn’t be that bad if it reconnected when I opened the lid back up.. but it won’t even do that. One time it deleted my cooking profile altogether. Maybe it’s just not made to be used with all metal smokers... the app itself works fairly well, but can be cumbersome to set up and connect your MeatStick.

    Developer Response

Hi there, we would like to know more about your cook. We have many users cooking with pitboss pellet smokers without the losing connection issue. As long as the Xtender or WiFi Bridges is placed within 6 feet from the MeatStick, and the MeatStick isn't covered by foil, it should connect well. If you have any further questions, please contact our support team support@themeatstick.com, and they will help you to check. Thank you!
  • Let down

From day one they don’t connect well especially when using more then one. Prob . or the drop signal I’ve contacted support when I first got them but all I got was them telling me I was out of range .. I’m never over 25ft from the extender or WiFi maybe I just got a bad set who knows I just use my probs with wires and these just sit in a drawer .

  • Why do you need location services??

I’m trying to understand why this app need precise location services to be used. I’m sorry but I don’t want to turn that on for a meat thermometer. Makes me feel like the months of waiting for this device is a disappointment. Sorry. I don’t think I’m going to use this device until I hear why location services are needed.

  • Doesn’t work, support is terrible

Whoever says support is great doesn’t mind going back and forth via email or have an expectation of faster response to resolve issues on prime BBQ days.

This has never worked properly but yesterday it wouldn’t connect to either of my sticks. Even after charging for 4+ hours. The fact I couldn’t even get support on a Saturday to help with connecting and being able to use is extremely disappointing and frustrating.

  • Charging meatsticks

Chargers are very finicky. Signals from MeatStick to bridge and/ or extender very finicky too. I like the probes, they make a cook easier, but just like all electronic devices they are particular to work with.
Now I see the MeatStick 2020 is improved. Love to try one, but I spent $300+ on this set up. Don’t have $ to try another “improved “ version
