Easy To Install

I plugged the sensor into an outlet in the dining room that is rarely used. The Ting Sensor application found the sensor right away and quickly connected it to our house wi-fi. Done!

So far, everything is green, meaning no electrical faults have been found. I know the application will alert me if something goes wrong, but I find myself checking once a day just to see the voltage variations.

I give Ting a double thumbs up.

Hard to rate but worthwhile

So the app is basic and doesn’t do much UNTIL you have a problem. THAT is great! That’s why I got it! Keep up the great work! But the REST of the time, there’s not much to it.
Technically you can monitor your voltage, outages, and yes, it’s got the articles about safety etc. but they seem mostly stuff that most people already know, and that’s ok, but all that is just meh… to me.
It does it’s job well, so I don’t want to give it 3-stars, And again, is it supposed to be much more than that? So 4-stars it is!

Easy install

Smooth install and setup. Informative Home Screen showing voltage range. Still in learning phase. App states that it can take up to 7 days before commencing the monitoring phase. Looking forward to the extra security of knowing that the “lowest bidder” did a decent job when my home was built 31 years ago and nothing has shaken loose.

Great Service

we have had Ting for over a year now. When we first got it, they noticed we were having issues that ended up being intermittent problems with the main power coming from the transformer. They suggested we get an electric company to come out and verify the problem wasn’t with our service panel (breaker box). We did and that wasn’t the problem. I had to call our electric company a couple times and give them the information from the Ting service, but they finally got somebody out there to inspect the power lines and/or transformer, and there was some small issue with the main power that they fixed. we haven’t had any issues since!
The people at Ting were great about giving me information to pass on to the electric company, and talking me through what to tell them. They were very patient and very helpful and they were the only reason that we knew something was wrong, and knew what steps to take to get it fixed. We were very thankful. they email me a weekly report to let me know if there’s been any outages in the Wi-Fi, electricity, or any other issues that have come up during the week. They also email me immediately if there is a power outage at our house or something else wrong. it’s a great service, And it’s actually free through our homeowners insurance.

Electrical health check

We had an addition done about 20 years ago on our 40ish year old house. We had an issue after that with some exterior lighting. We tracked the issue down before we got Ting, but I have always had a nagging in the back of my mind wondering if there were any other issues that were there but we just didn’t see the impact or risk. While Ting isn’t the end-all solution to residential wiring safety, just having it monitored over an extended period of time has really given me peace with the issue. It is also reassuring to have the real time monitoring when we play with vintage/found electronics a few times a year and we aren’t 100% sure of the health of the devices we’re playing with!

Dis Ting is awesome!

I do mechanical equipment repair professionally. I live in old tyme electricals.
Panel boards and cloth wire. Old old stuff.
The Ting sits in my house watching for the signs of problems. I know what to watch for, but Ting sees way more before I can. Ting keeps tabs on my house and let’s me know why the lights flickered. It’s my last line of defense. I’m very pleased to have the little Ting in my house.

Saved my family and home

My homeowners insurance through State Farm has a program from Whisker labs called TING. A plug in device that has an app on my phone. While at Arianas volleyball game Tuesday I was notified there was a potential hazard. So as instructed I called my fire safety engineer Dima. She talked me through figuring out what caused the voltage dip. Found that a breaker had tripped and the basement was filled with a white haze Dima instructed me to call 911. So we got out and South Pymatuning Volunteer Fire Department showed up promptly to discover it was the extension and cord on my sump pump that burned. They vented out the smoke with a large fan. We then were able to safely enter. I called back Dima and they were dispatching an electrician to install a new dedicated outlet. The great news is they will pay up to $1000 for the repair.
So I was able to give them the name of the electrician Tony Petricini that installed my panel. They contacted him and then I called him and assured him it wasn’t a scam. He was able to come out and install a new outlet lower to the ground so no extension cord needed.
Had I not installed the TING I would have never known there was a problem we would have come home and gone to bed.…. I am so thankful to State Farm, Whisker Labs for this great complimentary program through State Farm. Thankful my family is safe.

Very disappointed

Immediately after receiving my unit, it would not stay connected to my Wi-Fi modem. I would unplug it and plug it back in and reset my modem. I contacted my ISP and was told this was not an issue on my ISP part. The app on my cell phone which is an Apple iOS keeps losing contact with the device. I don’t believe it’s an app issue. I reached out for technical support for Ting and have yet to get a resolution. It’s been over two weeks. I got my unit through state farm. I contacted them and they tried contacting Ting and could not get any technical advice or support for me as State Farm’s customer. I do not recommend this unit at all and the customer service is terrible.

Overall it’s good and makes me feel safer,

However, I hate the “time sensitive” notifications. Ting considers everything glass breakage or something similar from putting ice in a glass, the dog tags moving, a fork on a plate, everything. it really doesn’t matter how far away from the noise the sensor is, it’s still picks it up probably from my phone. I can’t figure out how to turn it off and I’ve looked at all of the settings and there’s really no way to do it.

Sparky!

This is a good application. It lets me know of any problems either when I’m home or away from home. If I’m gone for more than a day and electric goes out in my home, then I can let my neighbor know that I may have a problem so they can help.
Good stuff!!
