  • Steer clear

The lack of transparency with Kyte is wild. From day 1 I regretted trying it out. The only reason I gave two stars was the fact that the “surfer” was kind and carried out the drop off/ pick up quickly. Outside of that, to push the drop on 1 hour you’re charged for another full day. They say “don’t worry about refueling we’ve got you” and then an hour before text you to say you’ll be charged $5.50 per gallon. Calling in is fruitless because they’re not able to handle any issues, the chat takes 45 minutes to get an agent, with an attitude. So many other issues, but at this point I'm just going to let it go and vow to never use this company again—they are literally on the level of spirit/frontier airlines for context.

  • Flexible AND reasonable.

Compared to other rental companies their prices are very fair (cheapest car is $24 a day). They deliver and pick up for you which is also super easy. A simple verification with the “surfer” and that’s it. They are also accommodating and understanding with being human. I made a reservation for the next day but then realized I didn’t need it. According to their policy, cancellation within 48hrs would mean only credits. I was able to talk to an agent via the “help” function of the app and they were able to cancel my reservation for a full refund.

  • Why I won’t use Kyte again

The drop-off, trip, and pick-up went just fine. It was a day after I turned it back over, however, that my problem began. I was charged the $500 deductible for their damage waiver. They first told me it was a citation charge, when I asked why it was charged as a deductible, they went back to saying it was the deductible for damage and the car was being repaired. I was told 1-2 business days after claim was processed to be contacted by the claims team. 7-10 days for the claim to actually be processed. It has been two weeks and still have not been provided with any further contact or documentation saying what damage occurred to be charged the deductible.

  • Late drop offs

    Some feedback for Kyte

    1) make sure the car is delivered on time. The last to times we rented, the surfer was over an hour and 30 mins late. People have places to be and book a time that works. Drop off delays make us late or wait in suboptimal situations- we were waiting outside south station in Boston.

    2) if the car drop off is late, add the delayed time to the return. All other rentals start the 24hr clock from the time the car is picked up. Kyte keeps warning us that if we are past our initial booking time or not there at exact drop off time, they will charge us extra, but don’t offer the same courtesy if the surfer is late.

    3) if you are going to be sticklers about charging $25 for delays, make sure you give $25 refund (not credit) for delayed drop off. I got a $15 credit after complaining a lot (which then makes me seem like a nag. I didn’t want the credit. I wanted the car to be on time.)

    4) customer service can be a bit nicer. Some are nice and some are borderline rude.

Overall, given our sub-par experience, we will not be using Kyte again, until we hear that there are significant changes to policy and practice.

  • Really good experience. Will use again.

My car was in the shop for a couple of days, so I needed something for my commute. Price on an economy car much cheaper than traditional rental companies. Easy setup on app, car dropped off at door punctually. Nice clean ride. Pick up was just as timely and easy, both drivers super friendly.
Was able to change the pickup to an earlier time, just required a little digging for a phone number.
That would be my only suggestion to developers, make it possible to change times through the app.

  • The customer service is TERRIBLE

It was really hard to reach out to the customer service:(
I got a message that told me that there was a verification issue 15 hours before the time for the trip. I had some a problem with uploading id and minimum wage, so I started a chat to ask an agent for help. I waited for more than 20 minutes to get a response from an agent. But that response was not useful at all and she didn’t answer my follow up questions until like 40 mins later. She showed up again and told me that they are verifying my identity.
And another one hour later I asked her about the result she told me the same issue that they texted me 3 hours ago, which I had fixed following the instruction through the app. It was so annoyed that the policy was not clear and the feedback was so delayed! And it was hard to get a refund!!

  • Do not recommend.

Customer service not easy to get in touch with and they provided different information than driver.

Drivers were great. Tried to leave tip for second driver and app kept saying to try back later. Tried for days after trip and got same message.

After trip was over, received email from Kyte to discuss trip and provide feedback. When asked to set a day and time for conversation, nothing was available for up to five months (and probably forever but I stopped trying.)

Received text two days before trip was over saying I could extend trip by a couple hours at no charge if by a certain time. Text said any other changes would cost $25.
I changed within the free time and I was then charged $53. customer service made sure I wouldn’t want to spend the time trying to hunt them down for an answer.

Seems like a great idea, and could be if the people up top gave a sht. They don’t. All of the great things about Kyte were undone by lack of acceptable customer service and obvious lack of care from the top. Such a bummer.

  • A great experience until the end…

The car arrived close to on time, and it was clean and brand-new smelling (not something typical of a car rental). However… Kyte pushed and pushed (via text) to let them refill the tank. I did, but I wish I hadn’t. They charged me for half a tank when I used less than 1/4. When I challenged them, they sent a photo of a full gas tank as “proof” (in the same photo, the coolant gauge was at the halfway mark, where it should be). Weird. Their customer service is oddly belligerent when confronted. Lesson learned. I’ll either refill myself, or snap a photo of the gas gauge as proof next time. But for now, I’ve deleted the app. The convenience of a car drop off/pickup doesn’t make up for dishonesty.

  • Changed my car life

Before I found Kyte I had many many frustrating car rental experiences in New York City over the course of 14 years. I used traditional companies, Zip Car, and other app based services. So often there were issues that were unpredictable and frustrating that my young kids didn’t want to leave town! Using Kyte has simplified my life, and my high stress level over car rentals has disappeared! Their dropoff and pickup service is seamless and their staff is excellent. Their app is easy to use, quick, and I never feel like I’m being surprised by anything. Thank you Kyte!

  • 10/10 recommend Kyte over alternatives

I just had my first experience as a Kyte customer last weekend. Not only was the price better than the alternatives, the quality of the car and the seamlessness of using the app for booking and communication regarding delivery & pickup was ideal. The “surfer” (what they call the person who delivers and picks up the car) who dropped off and picked up the car was also quick and efficient. Because I was new to the service and had specific questions, I communicated with Kyte’s customer service and other company personnel who were all very helpful and pleasant to work with. Overall, will definitely choose Kyte over alternatives again next time I’m in need.
