  • Terrible support and Lies about Bonus

I just started using this app and it’s already the worst app ever, they kept reminding me about doing my first task so that me and the person that referred me can get our bonus, only for them to say they paused it months ago even though up to a weak before I did my first task they was saying I need to do a task to get bonus. Everything you have to do is on an external site or app, getting paid and even sending in an ticket to dispute something you haven’t use a whole different platform. They don’t have humans at the support number they have all they do is send you to their live chat that I’m positive is a bot because of how everyone of them responded to my question.
Don’t waste your time with this app.

SIDE NOTE: I looked for someone who was label as no pet only to go and see 2 big dogs at their house so they don’t even properly know how to screen their customers

  • Update violation policy

So , I have Been with papa pal for a long time. I never use to have problems until I started getting notices that I was canceling my shifts to close to date. What I do not understand is that if you can MAKE YOUR OWN schedule you then when I cancel a visit that I just excepted but saw someone else with more need or close to me then it papas should not be punished. Not only have a been watched as if I am not doing my job correctly I wasn’t even getting paid for mileage until I said something. Papa pal needs to understand while we are helping those in need. You have allowed all employees to make their own schedule and cancel if needed. If you do not like this, then why do papas get to cancel at the last minute or refuse to answer when called upon. Possibly because you are getting money from their insurance? Employees should get more grace.
  • Good idea, but narrow-minded in practice

I live in the city of Chicago, where more than 25% of households don’t own a car (and many more who do own one, don’t drive regularly). Most of our neighborhoods are wonderfully walkable, and our public transportation and bicycle infrastructure are some of the best in the nation, with improvements being made all the time. In fact, a lot of the time it’s faster and easier to get around the city by bike than it is by car. And in the winter when it snows, public transit is your best, most reliable bet, although many people here are year-round cyclists.

Besides being wholly unnecessary, owning a car in a major city can also be very, very expensive — much more expensive than in other parts of the country.

I have a valid ID and a clean background. Why on Earth do I need to own a car in order to visit the elderly and those in need? Maybe you’d have more caregivers if you didn’t exclude anyone who isn’t already affluent enough to own and maintain a vehicle.

Plot twist: I do own a car, it is insured, and my driver license is current. However, I hardly ever drive and would not drive to these gigs. I don’t feel comfortable misrepresenting myself as a driver when I would be riding my bike, walking, or taking public transit.

    Do better, “Papa.”
  • Papa Pal review

I have been working for Papa Pal for a little over a year almost a year and a half now. I have some regulars that I see all the time and I fill in with other people that I don’t see all the time or even new people. I love that I can decide whether I want just companionship or to drive someone somewhere help with groceries or housework. Getting to choose which clients you don’t want to go to and the ones you do is very much a plus. The the money is an extra bonus to helping people get me out of the house a few hours a day. And the fact that we get paid within two days usually sometimes. Is really a great feature. I love being a Papa Pal and I think my members like having me by my personal request. You don’t have to deal with bosses you don’t have to talk to somebody or all the time on the phone. But if there is an issue with the client or with the booking, you can pick up the phone and call and it’s always resolved immediately. I would recommend Papa Pal to anyone who loves working with the elderly or handicapped or people who are shut in. It makes you feel good. And you make them feel even better and you get paid. Win-win.
  • Great Side Hustle/Part-Time Gig

I have been doing Papa Pal for several months. I enjoy meeting new people, helping the members and taking them where they need to go. They offer bonuses all the time and the hourly pay is getting better. You get reimbursed for mileage when you transport the members anywhere. The only thing I would ask them to change is still paying you for the time you have accepted for a visit. Because you can’t book back to back visits. So even if done a little early you should still be paid for that time that’s allotted for the visit. Other than that I love it. I have so many members that love me and request me all the time to come back to assist them.

  • Terrible gig app

Pros: If you like helping the elderly, this is nice sometimes. Hourly pay is okay… when you can get it.

Cons: Very very few evening/weekend visits. Even if the client only needs basic cleaning, there’s no way to reach out to the client and go “hey, I’ve worked with you before, I’m not available tomorrow but I can come Saturday if that works?” And in very rural areas with few Pals available, sometimes Papas end up going entirely without just because they picked a time that overlapped with too many other visits and there was no way for them to express any flexibility in their scheduling options. Additionally, if you’re a Pal and you confirm the visit the day before just like you’re supposed to, and then the client cancels THE MORNING OF, you get no compensation. You set aside 3+ hours of your day, possibly turning down other gigs in the process, and the client cancels on you last minute even though you confirmed with them the day before, and you get nothing to show for it. At least throw us $3-4 or so per hour worked as a “cancellation fee” for us, since we bothered to make ourselves available! Visits get canceled WAY too often for this to be a semi-useful side gig.
  • No problems whatsoever

If you're thinking about getting this app just do it. As long as you're eligible sign up and become a pal. I have met a lot of older folks and learnt so much from them plus there is a satisfaction that comes from knowing im making a positive difference in someone's life. If you're gonna sign up to be a pal, don't just do it for the money do it from a place of love. All the visits are in person and I promise they are worth it. So far I've only had one almost bad experience but I stayed calm, stood my listened and stayed to help the papa after a while they apologized and told me they were only disappointed that their usual pal didn't show up. Once you become a pal you matter to the people you meet, they always look forward to seeing you. I signed up and hesitated for a long while if this was meant for me and if it would be worth it but I have no regrets whatsoever😊

  • Re: App Update Not Working

I have recently joined papa and think the concept of the app is great for everyone especially the elderly in need. I have been back and forth sending support tickets to Papas support which have not been helpful at all. According to the papa app I downloaded to get started on boarding I am at the latest version of 1.45.0 and I have also prior to this review been asked to reset my phone completely (done), deleted the papa app (done), re-downloaded the app (done), and yet nothing has changed. App function is barely functioning and the supposed new payment portal (should be stripe) according to when I joined shows an older version as Support has alarmed me of. Support says write a ticket to support, call or use the chat and I gotta say, if customer support is this difficult to use or receive any help it may just not even be listed. I need to know what I can do to update my app where it is functioning like they say it should including the bug fixes that were mentioned here on app information. I will change my review ratings if or when this app is able to update and work. Developers, please help!

  • 3/15 they stopped paying commute mileage to visit in MI

Sometimes I drive an hour to a visits and the commute mileage was helping me pay for car repairs. If they keep cutting ways for us to get income, they will keep losing papa pals. They changed the customer service phone line too so it’s more difficult to get help. Another note, I reported a member for sexual harassment and then I got a warning from papa pals about cancelling visits and punishments for it. But I refuse to go to an appointment that I’m being sexually harassed at. I only cancel if I’m having car problems, am sick, or was mistreated at an appointment. Sometimes I drop an appointment for a “preferred pal” visit, but I never do that last minute. I like helping people, but I need to be treated with respect and be able to make enough money to keep my car in good condition and pay all my other bills too. I am the only income in my home, and I don’t have anyone to rely on. It’s just me.

  • Leaving the app !

Unfortunately ,my time is up with this app, I had enough. When I first started 6 months ago the app was all about companionship , running errands with member’s and small task . After I was sexually harassed by a 85 year old man ,I refused to visit any more males and only accept women .that was okay for a while until the app basically turned into a cleaning service . I have gone above and beyond trying to please the members but it seems they want more . I have refused to deep clean members home which a few seemed to have an issue with but others understood. Today I refused to clean a members tub and toilet and she went ape$%it 😐I ended the visit early and reported her . The pay isn’t worth it and it honestly feels like I’m a maid .its not worth my time .
