App glitches and sign-up is misleading

I clicked through to see membership benefits but they were hard to evaluate before choosing a plan. The plan said it was $89 or $7 per month so I clicked to continue figuring $7 per month is okay. No confirmation that I was authorizing the full year’s charge to be withdrawn in a lump sum but that’s what they withdrew a day later. They sent no email confirming the charge - they removed from my bank account with no receipt sent.

Before finding they were misleading in their charges I tried to enter my account info for several cards to my plan and each time the card was accepted but did not populate onto the list of my accounts, checking back a few hours later I found the new cards did populate but other accounts had been dropped for no reason, making it impossible to load all of my accounts successfully into the app.

Again when canceling my membership I was not sent any information about any refund in email. A company that requires direct access to all of your banking logins needs to be much more transparent about the money they plan to withdraw from those accounts and they should send a clear accounting by email.

Great concept, poor implementation

I like the user interface of the app and the ease of connecting all your accounts to have a good overview. I was interested in doing the Credit Builder program and I signed up. I was charged $99 for a membership, I was never given the option to choose the monthly fee instead, it all got charged at once. I’ve been waiting weeks for the Credit Builder program to begin and so far nothing has happened. In a nutshell, they loan you $50 and you pay it back in 5 $10 payments to build your credit. This is supposed to reward you with the ability to perform a balance transfer of up to $8000 to a Bright Money line of credit. It would be amazing if it would actually work, but after contacting the company on two separate occasions and never hearing back, it’s hard not to think this is a scam to just get your $99 and run. I was able to escalate my concerns and they said they would be issuing a refund of the $99. I also deleted my account and am disappointed that it didn’t work out, but glad they addressed my concerns.

Update: Here I am over a week later and the refund never came. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised. This is what happens when AI is left to run a business

Horrible Customer Service

My account has been on owing $0 for 4 months now I reached out to customer service as my account has been stuck in 62% status for 4 months and each time they respond just giving me the process of how it works. I’ve mentioned multiple times that I know how it works but ask them to check into my account specifically as it shows $0 is owed, if I try to just get my money I get a warning saying stopping it early will affect my credit score negatively, but yet Bright can’t seem to tell me how much longer I have to let the ml why just sit there after it being on $0 owed for over 4 months. I asked for this to be escalated and have yet to hear back. I don’t really care about having the money soon, I just want to know how much longer the process will take as it has been stuck on 62% for such a long time but they seem to now know, I have used another app before similar to Bright and did not have any issues with them. So this is really weird.
Also I keep having to reconnect my bank account everytime I login which doesn’t make sense. I would suggest looking at other options rather than Bright I am glad none of my friends used my referral on this app.

A semi-scam - will work for VERY few - mostly a waste of time and mostly money.

I signed up a few months ago. Same as everyone else - very shady - says monthly then pulls the whole amount then charges monthly and 3 payments in now my account has disappeared. They want me to reconnect the accounts again but I know this is to only charge me the full yearly charge again and pretend like I didn't make any payments. I've been trying to reach their customer service for weeks like with no avail. They took 3 payments, saved nothing, did nothing but take away 3 points from my already not too bad score and completely seems to have reset my account now claiming I never made one. I have email Proof and transaction proof but no one responds so all that is pointless. I would suggest to calm your back, dispute the yearly if you were charged, dispute the monthly charges and block this company in your transactions. This is a meticulously made scam that really can all be done by YOURSELF with a little bit of understanding of what THIS company is trying to do. They have no live support, the phone number is a misleading one (asks to dial *611 for help but that's actually Your own mobile service's customer service. DO NOT FALL FOR THIS APP AS MOST OF US HAVE! Please stay away!

This app WILL take your money before you even decide to use it!!!

I have been trying since May 11, 2023 to get a refund! This app will trick you into thinking you’re just checking out the plans, but they WILL charge you and keep your money before you even decide that’s what you want to do! Not only that, but it’s very shady about these “monthly plans”. They boast a small charge of $7.41/monthly, BUT what they ACTUALLY mean is they’re going to charge you for the entire YEAR. (This is specified in a VERY FINE, LIGHTLY PRINTED print at the bottom of the page, and I was not wearing my glasses, so OF COURSE I didn’t see it.) Regardless, I wasn’t even aware that I even signed up in the first place!! I looked at the plans, but I hadn’t signed up, or so I thought! I was l charged $88 out of the blue and of course had to investigate to find out what in the world was going on!! I have been emailing their poor excuse for “customer service” since the 11th of May! And I had to send MULTIPLE emails to get anyone to respond!! And now they’re saying my issue has been resolved, because they cancelled my “membership” that I never used nor signed up for! They will not respond in regards to a refund, and I sent a third email today regarding this! It’s absolutely ridiculous! I feel completely taken advantage of! If you are going to use this app, be VERY VERY careful!! And good luck if anything happens and you need assistance! Customer service is a complete joke!

BEWARE IT IS A SCAM!

If I could give this app a rating lower than one star I would. It is a SCAM. It isn’t compatible with some credit cards so you are unable to properly track anything.
They offer to have you pay off a small “loan” in order to improve your credit over months. The “loan” is you paying them $10 a month on a random dates whenever they choose to charge you, you are not loaned any money. The “loan” is $50. Once they start charging you for the “loan” if you try to opt out they threaten it will negatively effect your credit, so you are stuck paying them $50. They also don’t do a good job of disclosing that the app charges you $10 a month just for using it. So you are paying $20 for a service you can’t use for a minimum of 5 months. When they pull the $10 for using the service, it is also on a different day each month. In conclusion you will be trapped paying at least $100 for this app.

I was charged the first month without it going towards the “loan”. My “loan” started to appear to have payments towards it the second month. So I’m going to end up paying them $120 by the time this is over. Again they threaten it will negatively effect your credit for opting out.

Disappointing

I’ve been using Bright for going on 8 months now and it has done nothing for me. The biggest reason I got it in the first place was in hopes of getting the credit line, primarily to increase my overall credit line, and secondarily for the balance transfer. My payment history was already in good standing. I was in the process of a job hunt after leaving a job I was very unhappy with. After burning through my savings, I ran my credit cards into the ground until I finally ended up in a MUCH better position. Obviously climbing your way out of debt takes a while. I wasn’t approved for a credit line with Bright upon initially signing up. I was okay with this because of my low credit score. I have since raised my score by over 50 points (on my own, by making huge payments on my credit cards, so Bright gets no credit for this) and have brought my CCU down by over 10% since then. And I still haven’t been approved for a credit line for balance transfer? I’m very close to going from Fair credit to Good credit and I still can’t get the help I was looking for from Bright. At this point I’ve basically just done everything on my own and wasted money on a subscription that has done literally nothing to help me with my situation. Maybe others had a good experience, but in my experience Bright did nothing but disappoint.

Great concept, terrible outcomes.

I have been with Bright a little over 6 months (primarily to help build credit) and from the start I was not aware of the service fee of $10 to maintain the program on top of your monthly $10 payments. Secondly, I was informed that after 3 on time payments I would be eligible for a balance transfer after 4 months hit I reach out to their customer service department to inquire about the eligibility and they stated my score was not high enough to offer… ok that’s fine still misleading though.. Thirdly I have been with the program over 6 months now and the credit builder program is technically “completed” after 5 successful payments & is stated to report to credit bureau AFTER completion. It has yet to report, I have reached out to customer service NUMEROUS times & only received generic scripted responses. Nothing helpful at all. Though their CS support has improved it has been a struggle the entire 6 months to get any REAL response. Again, app has a good structure, great concept…. however needs to actually work. I would love for it to just report to my credit bureau like I’ve paid $60 for.

Good luck talking to customer service

I was really excited to try this app. I went through all of the steps to set everything up and it was pretty glitchy. I had to try three times before my bank accounts were connected and then it asked for my ssn and I entered it and it said that it couldn’t verify it. I know it was correct and even if it wasn’t, the box popped up so fast that I knew there was no way it was even sending it. So I tried using their chat feature and got no response, restarted my phone, waited a day, tried the chat feature again, called and left a voicemail, waited another day used the chat feature again, left another voicemail and at this point I thought to myself “Do I really want a company to have access to my bank accounts who I can’t even get into contact with?” Finally I emailed and chatted “PLEASE CLOSE MY ACCOUNT!” And after 5 days I finally got an email yesterday saying that my account was closed. No apologies, no questions about what happened. Safe to say, I would 0/10 recommend this app or company
