Beautiful and Functional.
I bought this app because “Walk to Mordor” is not available for iPhone, but this one is so much more beautiful! I love that there is not only a map, but also a pictorial narrative of your journey you can scroll through. Between the narrative and the badges there are many more “rewards” in the for of story updates than in the other app. I also enjoy seeing how far behind “Mr. Underhill” I am! I do wish I had the option to enter distances manually, though, like in the other app—this one imports data directly from my “Health” pedometer, so I don’t have the option to give myself credit for biking. Pity, since Mr. Underhill uses horses and boats at times! All in all, eminently worth the $4.

So much fun!
My friends and I started this app together last year and we’re racing to finish. I just finished my 1780 mile journey 301 days later! My goal was to finish in under a year and I’m really happy I hit my goal.
This app was extremely motivating, I wish there were more campaigns! Looking forward to doing it again with new friends

Perfect
Nothing I can think of to complain about. The small one time price is fair enough for the amount of effort put into making this app. And the unlimited daily cap benefit for the upgrade is well worth it. 10/10
Great app…but I have a suggestion!
I really love the concept of this app! But I would really like it if there were different difficulty levels that could be selected. There is no way in heck I will ever end up walking 20-25 miles per day, meaning I will never keep pace or get ahead of Mr. Underhill. The difficulty levels could be tied to set goals. Like maybe the easy setting have Mr. Underhill move 2-5 miles per day, and so on. Something like that would make this app more personalized to each user.

Question…
So, the idea of this app is AWESOME! But in practice, I’m having trouble… if there is an answer that fixes my problem I will give this 5 stars but as for now… I spent the money to buy this app to be able to track more than one mile a day. I then bought an app that connects my fit bit to my health so that I can use that data to track my steps. So far it’s not working. The health app syncs fine, but it never uploads to fantasy hike. So it’s tracking just what my phone tracks, which since I don’t carry it with me all the time, is useless to me. So far I’m out $10 for nothing and I don’t see any type of help or support for this app. I’m trying to reach out this way and would love to change and update this review if I get answers…
UPDATE:
AWESOME!! Just awesome!!
There was an issue with how the data was being transferred from my Fitbit to fantasy hike and after speaking with one of the makers of the app (who got back to me within 24 hours) and troubleshooting together, they literally purchased the same Fitbit to see why it was working properly. They figured it out and updated to app just so I can walk to Mordor more accurately!!!
GREAT SERVICE! GREAT APP! GREAT THANKS!

Health
Find an app addition that connects to the iPhones Health App and it’s connections and you can increase your sales/downloads/upgrades with add in features so customers do t have to use multiple apps or add health trackers to your own app so it’s stand alone and doesn’t have to incorporate or pay for Apples features and branding etc. also pay me royalties for the suggestion. You could also add side trips and magnifiers to dial I. To the maps specific locations like a state map has city blow ups for smaller regions. And interaction points like chatting with others in a multiplayer daily walking app. People could also design the route to coordinate with their own daily routes or specific to trails as well. There are all
Kinda of ways to expand this apps functionality but as a stand alone it’s the best I’ve found in the App Store. Easily too 5 for just fun and doesn’t take up time looking at my phone but rather walking and looking at it after. Also, Tell mr Underhill to slow down; I’m not trying to catch him but it would be cool to have someone to talk to on the trail every so often like an outpost to get some pot pie and a beer…. What’s his hurry? He’s 343 miles ahead of me. He paid for the upgrade and I don’t so maybe all these suggestions will be answered when I pay the $3.99 so I am either the smartest reviewer you have ever had or have limited walking info due to financial constraints. It is an awesome app.

Love the idea but ...
The idea and story of this app are excellent and really adds a bit more fun to walking. However, I have been using this app less than a week and already I have had 2 days which are WILDLY inaccurate. My normal daily distance is about 5.5 miles. So far it has been pretty accurate but one day this week somehow recorded 28 miles and as I write this it is only 7am and the app is logging nearly 9 miles already (I have only walked 4 miles). These inaccurate recording cannot be edited or changed (that I can find) so now it does really deal like my journey any longer. I will likely uninstall and see if I can get a refund.

Unique and fun!
I saw this and thought I’d give it a try as motivation to get more active. I am a big JRR Tolkien fan so this caught my eye. The free version limits you to 1 mile a day, which gives you a chance to see what it’s about. I will say I paid the 3.99 for it without an hour because it is a well thought out app that gets me moving!

Very fun but needs tracking updates
Love the idea and love the graphics. But its hard to keep going when I’m walking 5 miles and it only records less than half a mile. Maybe a self input feature or a better connection to tracking apps like Fitbit? Also Mr. Underhill is super fast. Im not sure he was on a pony for that long. Maybe a settings for how fast he walks per day? Anyway thanks for the app!

Cool app but somewhat demotivating
I love the basic premise of this app and all the beautiful graphics! It’s fun to take my phone with me when I walk and track my progress to Mt Doom (called Mt Fire in the app).
There are only two issues I have with this app. One, Mr. Underhill is relentless! He walks something like 20-25 miles a day! There is no way I can catch up to him and I find that somewhat demotivating. Wish there was an update where Mr. Underhill’s progress was only about 3-5 miles more than your own so you’d be motivated to catch up to him.
Second, what does “Second Breakfasts” and the other categories at the bottom mean?! Seems like other reviewers can’t figure it out either. Please explain this in the app’s description.
Otherwise, it’s a fun app and I paid $4 for the premium version right away.
