So cute but wish it supported FitBit
I really love this little app and the only reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because it doesn’t support FitBit. I don’t have an Apple Watch and I don’t carry my phone with me all the time so I know it’s not getting all my steps. Regardless though, it’s a great little motivator and really well-designed.

Hello justagirl75, Thank you so much for taking the time to review the app! We're delighted to hear you're enjoying it. We are working on integrating FitBit (in the mean time you can read about fitbit on our FAQ if you haven't already http://forge7.net/fantasyhike/support.html). Happy hiking!
One of these Challengers is not like the Others
I just got started, 4 days in. I really like the easy navigation of the app and the art style. My one complaint is that Mr. Underhill (your challenger) is springing all day such that he is about 60 miles ahead of me. I had to change to John Snowflake to feel like I’m actually competing. Only reason I could see challenging Mr. Underhill us if you do a marathon every day, and that’s just not realistic.
Overall, highly recommend! Just wish I could race one of my favorite fantasy characters on more equal footing.

This is the best nerdiest app ever and I love it
I live next to hobbiton in New Zealand

Hello Han Bambi, How delightful to hear! And thank you so much for taking the time to review the app.
A delightful way to add character to step tracking
Minimalist but charming visuals, seamless integration with the iOS location and step tracking functions, and thoughtfully spaced progress updates and notifications (not so often as to be bothersome but often enough to grant a sense of accomplishment). This is the “definitely not Tolkien!” version of Walk to Mordor, with the character of the original but the names changed sufficiently (Mt. Fire vs Mount Doom, etc.) to avoid copyright claims. If you’re looking to simply walk into Mordor… this is the closest you’re going to get.

It’s still dark
I bought and have been using the app for a few days and it’s been night nearly the whole time. I have lung issues and walk between 1.6 and 2 miles a day. The main picture turned to night at the beginning of day 2, after about 1.75 miles. Is it going to be dark the entire trip to Mount Fire?
Other than that, I love the app. Since I don’t go too far each day I love being able to “walk with” Hairyfoot Potter since I can keep up with him! Thanks for a great app…if I can figure out how to see “daylight” it’s worth five stars!

Great motivator, needs better pedometer support
Love the app, it just needs to be able to better sync with Apple Health or other pedometers like FitBit without needing to download other apps. I use a FitBit and have had to turn off my iPhone’s pedometer entirely, while using a third-party app to send my FitBit steps to my phone, then manually sync frequently throughout the day or Fantasy Hike will lag way behind. It’s a lot to deal with just so I can enjoy the app.

100% what my training needed
I purposefully started my hike on Sept. 22nd, and truthfully, it has helped my marathon training more than fitness apps.
The lighthearted approach encourages me to interact. If one wants a quest/hike to be the reason one works out/trains more, get this.
The free version is adorable, and the four bucks for the pro version is more than worth it.

Wow but slowing down.
I still really like this app and I will continue to use it. But I do wonder why the further you get into the journey the less distance you seem to cover with your real life steps. For instance it amazes me that somewhere in middle earth there’s a bush that’s a quarter of a mile wide.I realize that there’s only so much programmers can do, I just get frustrated that I only cover about an inch of ground in the app after walking 5 miles in real life. After the first couple miles at the beginning of the journey 1 inch was was equal about a mile in real life. That made sense and i felt rewarded as I watched my hobbit move along with me. Now i walk a couple miles and he has barely moved. Like I said, I still like the app and I am likely to still use it, but it’s less fun than it was now that I’ve passed Bree.
*Addition* I have been about an milimeter away from Weathertop for a month now. My avatar doesn’t appear to have moved at all for some days despite having walked several miles. I’m was excited about this app but I had to remove a star because it has become more discouraging than motivating.

Fun little LOTR fan exercise app!
This is one of the funnest most imaginative little apps I’ve ever seen. Must have for fans of Lord of the Rings. The background art and animation are truly inspired and the story line is simple, fun and easy to follow. The app creator obviously isn’t licensed from the Tolkien Estate and so has to make up approximate names for each of the milestones but the approximations are so clever you never have trouble understanding what “Halflington” is or “Comfort Hollow” or any of the other scenes familiar with the stories would know. It’s easy to forget this is a simple pedometer at heart. I’d give it 6 stars if it was available. Really well done.
Update: 345 days later ans I’ve walked 1780 miles and completed my quest. Just awesome and fun! Well worth the money.

Buy It!
Overall it’s a great app. My only “complaint” is that you almost have to buy the full version. I walk a lot in my job and after only a couple of hours hit the 2 Mile limit. But once I bought it Mr. “Underhill” was too far ahead and was almost done before I reached “Riverdale”. So if you use it to see if you can keep pace with the Fellowship, buy it! It’s very much worth it.
