Absolutely top notch

Seriously. I wouldn’t get the subscription based version - just didn’t make sense to me. But the standalone ad-free version? It’s the bomb, yo - like Ben Affleck in “Phantoms”. If you have even a passing interest in LOTR, you won’t regret it.

Hello Rob Rinne, Thank you so much for taking the time to review Fantasy Hike. We're thrilled to hear you've been enjoying it. Happy hiking and good luck on your journey.

Completed it…finally!

Always up for a challenge, and when I saw this, I knew it was something I wanted to do. As someone who works in an office, hitting the 10k target each day can be difficult, however, this app pushed me to achieve that target each day.

Firstly, if you want to beat Mr Underhill, you will need to pay the £3.99 for the unlimited distance. Secondly, you will also need to switch on your paddle bonus, and lastly, average 8miles / 13km a day (if possible).

A word of warning, Mr Underhill is very quick at the start but does take long breaks throughout the journey, so just keep walking and you’ll eat into his lead. Overall, it took me 170 days, starting Jan 1st and finishing June 18th.

Hello Colin Frissell, Thank you so much for taking the time to review Fantasy Hike. We're delighted to hear you've been enjoying it! Mr. Underhill is indeed a very speedy hobbit which is why we made more challengers so everyone had someone to compete against, hopefully! Happy hiking and great luck to you on your adventures.

Great and Amazing

This app is amazing. Wish there was another film or TV version of this. I could think of ideas all day.

My ideas if their was another one out there.

Harry Potter. Hunting down the horcruxes.

Walking Dead

Jurassic Park

Narnia. Journeying from Wardrobe to Aslan’s camp.

Back to the Future. Fix what you done and go back in the present.

Series of Unfortunate Events (Netflix Version). Escape from Count Olaf and his henchmen.

King Kong. Journey through Skull Island.

Labyrinth. Journey through the Labyrinth and save the baby brother

Percy Jackson (Disney+ Version). Journey from the camp to the Underworld.

Even thought of animated ones else well. I can think of more but these are the top five.

Moana. Journey and travel to return the heart of Te Fiti

Finding Nemo. Journey and find Nemo

Mulan. Journey and defeat the huns and save China.

Coco. Journey through the land of the dead and to return to the land of the living

Shrek. Journey from the swamp to the Dragons Keep.

Wonderful!

I don’t understand all the complaining about this app! It is a gorgeous app and put together so well! And I think 5 bucks is cheap to unlock it. The creators obviously put a lot of work into it and I think we should be happy to spend 5 bucks and support them!

Great Motivation!

I’m on a journey to lose 50 pounds and I’m a person who tends to give up if I mess up one day. This app helps me think about the long journey instead of just the day. The milestones and competition are huge motivators. It’s also just fun to walk to Mordor. I love this app! I just wish there was more hikes.

Excellent - if you can pay

I really like the simplicity and charm, but the free version caps the trackable distance at 1.5 km a day. That’s so low that it defeats the purpose of having the app at all - unless you can pay. For context, the average person should walk 10 km a day. Someone of my halfling stature (5ft) should walk at least 6-7 km a day, and the upper limit on what the free version tracks is 1.5 km - not even half, and certainly not in any way motivating you to get much steps in. I implore devs to increase the free distance limit to at least 5km - half of what the average person *should* walk.

BUT, if you can afford the premium, this is an excellent app.

Hello Juniper Frost, Thank you so much for reviewing Fantasy Hike. The trial version of the app is mainly for people to see if the app is something for them. We opted out of ads and so we have a one time purchase for the Unlimited Distance which we felt was better. You don't need to subscribe for the app to work, that's only for the Friend Feature. The distance is unlimited and you don't have to pay that amount again. Happy hiking and great luck on your adventures.

So good

Love this app, very cute and I like to check my progress. Achievements come every now and then and they have great visuals. Its fun and nice to have

Amazing app for LOTR fans

As someone who loves anything and everything lotr, this app is incredible. Really great app and very smooth to run. My only complaint is i wish there was more! (nothing against the app itself - a testimony to how good it is!) I think adding Bilbo’s adventure to the lonely mountain would be a great addition, also possibly adding Frodo’s or Bilbo’s journey back to the Shire after their respective adventures would be cool. Maybe even adding a version for Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli starting at Rivendell. All in all brilliant experience and felt great to reach the cracks of Mt Doom

Great app but sneaky charges

I am extremely disappointed with this app and I feel the need to express my frustration. My partner and I began using this app in January, shortly after I subscribed. I discovered that I could pay to unlock unlimited daily distance and add friends to track progress. However, it seems that the app has recently made changes where you now have to pay extra to see friends' progress. It is disheartening to have paid for a feature that is now being charged for as an extra.

Hello Jucalix, Thank you for the review and the feedback. The friend feature was never a part of the Unlimited Distance and has always been a subscription feature. We rolled it out in January and it sounds like you caught the wave that got a sneak peak at the new features, which we tried to be very clear about. I'm sorry for this misunderstanding. The friend feature requires servers that have a high upkeep but this way we could give people this feature. The app is, of course, perfectly usable without the friend feature. Happy hiking!

Fun idea- needs a bit of bolstering

I’ve used this app now for 700 miles of the Mount Fire Quest. Initially, it was quite reinforcing by giving the user (me) achievements and consistent movement along the fantasy landscape. The further one goes though, the more the whole thing slows down. The story fades, it takes longer for the scenery to move, and it’s been over 200 miles of walking for me now with no new achievements. I wrote to the developers about 400 miles ago and they told me to hang in there because it does get exciting again. Other than a moment with a fox and some crows flying by…well, it’s becoming quite mundane.

The price is reasonable as a one time payment. But if you are someone who needs consistent reinforcement to keep you motivated, this app won’t provide it consistently. Lovely idea though and has so much potential.
