Horrible in every way

Customer service is terrible. Excessively long on-hold wait times. They transfer you back and forth to several people, so you have to keep explaining the situation over and over. There are limits on the number of transactions and amounts you are allowed to spend in a day. They sometimes block your transaction for “ your protection”. Forget Venmo, PayPal, and cash apps, there is always a problem! They either deny it or double-charge you. It's so frustrating. Trying to get THEIR mistakes fixed is a ridiculously long process. My card number was used fraudulently online. I reported it right away and within days the store reversed the charges. Nevertheless, DirectExpresss REFUSED to reimburse my account. I had to beg, fill out papers, send emails, and make a million phone calls! I had to finally file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission - only then, months later I finally got reimbursement.

Was Fine Until I Needed Cust. Service

I’m getting the message that my card status is invalid and I can’t use it likely due to an unnecessary security flagging. That happens. It’s fine, but I am yet to be able to actually get through to a customer service rep. I spent at least an hour on hold while calling multiple times yesterday. It claims to be available 24/7 but I called during normal business hours. I’ve never not been able to get a rep anywhere after holding for an entire hour…multiple times. I’m on hold as we speak trying again the next day at 9 am…tho this isn’t my first attempt today. I have no idea how I’m going to rectify the situation if I can’t speak to someone. Just my luck they will tell me there’s some other process that makes this a more difficult fix than the typical institution that just verifies that you made a transaction. The second I get it rectified I will be setting up direct deposit. This is a nightmare. DO NOT USE THIS CARD LONGER THAN ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY.

Direct Express Card

It is so easy to get your benefits on here - without using your bank - even using a smart phone app - simple to log in, update or change and it is amazing how “fast” a card is updated - ordered express , of course a charge but so worth it was at my home delivered 12 hours later by a carrier (direct express even allowed the “tracking” number - was at my home delivered in enclosed thick carrier legal size envelope - easy to update info and do pin )this is how modern day access is to work - effecient, easy to use and understand. I am so happy I can have this access - for myself through my benefits (it even shows pending deposits.). Thankyou!!!!

App doesn’t work website doesn’t work

The app updated 4 days ago and now it doesn’t work it say that my device is not supported and to call customer service so I tried to login online to check my account that doesn’t work either it says something went wrong try again later then doesn’t even let you log out so then I called customer service and they told me that it was nothing to do with the app or the website or the update that it was my fault it wasn’t working and that I needed to upgrade my phone in order for the app to work I have a iPhone 11 that is completely up to date with its system updates and has working phone service so how is it my phone causing the problem and how is it me causing the problem. I do not feel safe not being able to access my account and see my transactions and my balance and I just tried to login again online and it told me my password was incorrect which it isn’t so I tried to reset it and it told me that my cards expiration date is invalid and it isn’t it will not let me do anything at all and I do not feel safe and protected with my money I was also told by customer service that they have had zero complaints about this and that’s why they can’t help me and that’s why it’s my fault and that it’s my phone that I need to upgrade which is an iPhone 11 pretty new phone

Q&A needs updated

Before current update. I was able to use app on two separate devices. Current update stopped this. Read Q&A and provided information that App could be used on two separate devices. I was locked out, due to this. Customer service was polite, though complicated to get to. No direct line or choice to select for App assistance, but jump thru loops to find App assistance. Current update allows App only on one device. IMO, not too convenient for me. Followed customer service directions. Uninstall App from both devices and reloaded onto one device. I can not wait for next update to see what’s required to use the App and www on separate devices. I do hope current update fixed issue with fingerprint verification.

Still get the green blocked screen, preventing log in, when finger print is checked for use.

Pins

Looking for location to get money from and tapped on a liquor store location that I know sells drug abuse paraphanelia and a pipe waved at me! ;( at least that’s what it looked like when the location tag displayed itself. I don’t know any location tags that show a pin with a hole at the top of it. I just thought that the amount of users out there trying to get there Monday out then being subliminaly influenced by a waving crack pipe might be a reason why so many stay on or seek drugs on pay day. You might wanna check this out and change it or not maybe it’s some part of influencing propaganda research? :)

Direct express limits

I do not think direct express has any right to set the limits on how much of my social security I can withdraw at a time it is my money and where and when I wish to use it and how much or often is my choice and my right to my government pay check. If I wish to set limits for my personal security reasons I should be the one to set them. And having to go and withdraw my social security and move it to a card without restrictions is a hassle and it’s the only way I can do what I need to do each month because direct express sets dumb limits. If I want to buy something online I should be able to if I want to restrict certain abilities I should be able to slide online card purchases off or on and or cash withdrawl limits independently from within the app. All I can do is set off or on and I should be able to set international transactions on or off as well. These lack of features and restrictions is why I have it 2 stars. It’s not the gov business or direct expresses business to tell me how and when or where I can spend my money. Not being able to buy games from Xbox is an anoying issues now I have to go out just to buy a microsoft gift card just to purchase a online game from Xbox store. And not being able to load money onto the card is also a issue sometimes it’s easier if I had this feature then I’d have no need to use a secondary option like cash app.

Great customer service

This may have nothing to do with the website I called yesterday and talk to a wonderful wonderful customer service rep. I think her name is Madison not sure, but she had the patience to explain everything to me about adding money to my cash app card from my direct express card. on how to link all the way to the end and I just couldn’t get it and she still had the patience to go over it again and again. I have a learning disability regarding my comprehension ever since I was in school. It’s embarrassing. A lot of representatives (not direct express) when I call & need help I don’t get it right away and ask again and sometimes they lose their patience( I can hear it in their voice) then I feel uncomfortable and just lie and tell them I’m all set . II just wanna let you know this representative and made me feel so comfortable to ask questions sometimes over again and again , until I really understand how to do the linking and adding money to my cash app . Unfortunately I don’t have her name so I can tell her thank you so much. Hopefully this review go to someone and they read it. And I can tell them to keep up the good work. Have a great day. I wish their were more representatives like her. There are a lot of people out there that just don’t understand as quick as everybody else

A complete farce compared to any other banking app

My dad gets his social security on a direct express card. His old card is about to expire, so he enlisted me to help him activate the new one after attempting the toll free phone number at least a dozen times and repeatedly getting the "high call volume, please call back at another time" message. We tried the website (which the paperwork that came with the card says could be used to activate it), but there's no option to activate a new card. So we tried this app (also indicated on the paperwork as an option to activate the card), but again, no option to activate a new card. I've been using mobile banking apps for YEARS, and I've never seen one as useless as this one. This is what happens with every program the government runs instead of pyruvate Enterprise. It's clunky and never user-friendly. Literally the only thing you can do is review your transaction history.🤦🏻‍♀️

Extremely glitchy

I don’t understand why every time they update the app it pretty much makes it impossible to log in. It keeps saying that information is invalid or that I have no internet connection which is not true. ,I like most people who have this account, have disabilities and limitations so this is a big hardship for people like us and this happens too frequently it’s not an occasional issue. Try calling customer service and have to wait an hour or more is beyond inconvenient! My time needs to be spent on other things like my medical conditions. Stop treating physically challenged people like we’re morons and make your app system more efficient:(
