  • Jean-Jeffrey Marcellus - Horrible

I could leave 0 stars, I would. What a horrible provider. It was my initial consultation. For those of us with anxiety, you know how hard it is to take the first step to schedule an appointment. This provider joined our Telehealth meeting for 2 minutes. His camera and microphone were on mute. I sent him a message on chat to let him know I was in the meeting in case he didn’t know since his mic and camera were on mute. I spoke into the microphone. He then just signed off and never rejoined. No communication thereafter. I never leave negative reviews but someone who works with people who are vulnerable really needs to do their due diligence. The appointment was for 30 minutes. I signed in and out a few times, made sure my camera and mic were enabled. He never rejoined. Nothing. I took screenshots throughout my 30 minute session as proof. I am really disappointed and do not recommend.

  • The list of issues is beyond me.

Where do I start? The app? It’s glitchy. You are supposed to do check ins to monitor your progress yet it will glitch and you can’t actually do the check in. My providers? Won’t respond and if they do they it’s after you are already out of medications or worked through a hard time on your own. Getting help from the help desk? Forget about it. I have called three times and keep getting the voicemail and no one calls back. I have been paying for this every month and my therapist put in her resignation so I have been trying to get a new therapist for 3 weeks and can’t so there goes almost $400 dollars and no progression with my mental health. Don’t use this service.

  • Thank God for Brightside

I gave Brightside a chance after having a terrible first-time therapy experience 2 years ago with another website. Unfortunately I had hit my lowest low yet in terms of mental health and needed help. The care team that I have been working with (a psychiatrist and a licensed social worker) have been an insane help in supporting me to better myself and further understand how to cope and address certain anxieties and depressions that I have. I love how easy the app is to use, super convenient to schedule appointments on my phone. I also love the therapy lessons you can complete through the app to further your practice. I’ve been using Brightside for 3 months now and I’ve already convinced my friend and my mom to use it as well. All of us have had very positive experiences thus far!

  • Too good to be true

Everything started ok when I begin. I got a provider, an appointment, and we tried different types of medication. After several months I got better. I was getting my medication prescription sent to my pharmacy. I would ask questions to my provider and they were answered promptly. BUT, after a few months, my provider stop answering my messages, I ran out of medication. This meant that my treatment had to stop abruptly. I’d you don’t know, mental health treatments can’t be stopped from one day to another due to serious withdrawal symptoms. They have nobody to cover for my unavailable provider, nor they have cared. At the end of the day, they don’t seem to care truly about your wellbeing.

  • Trust

My team of therapist/physician and the Brightside program has been great, they were patient, kind and truly listened, I was able to trust them with my care, so I could begin to positively impact my life. The only issue I had was the monthly out of pocket cost, since they don’t bill my insurance and my insurance would not reimburse any of the cost for Brightside. Which is unfortunate because I truly believe the program works, and my providers helped me to trust them and open up with them. If this is a program your insurance covers you will find the help here. But if insurance doesn’t you either pay over$300 per month or find a care team your insurance has in network and hope they are someone you feel comfortable with and trust to help you with the things you struggle with, and hope they truly hear you the way The Brightside team did for me. It’s unfortunate but the budget spoke louder than my struggles.

  • Do not wait, they can help

I’ve been on anxiety and depression medication for 11 years. It took over a year to get on my current regimen and has helped immensely. Until the last few months. Anxiety had always been the forefront, but depression reared its ugly head this last month. I went to my PCP, who had been prescribing my medication, and told her it’s time to get back to a psychiatrist. Unfortunately, the waitlist is months, if not a year, away. I was reluctant to see an online psychiatrist, but I couldn’t wait. They connected me to someone within three days. There will never be immediate relief when it comes to anxiety and depression, but my online doctor has listened, researched my medical past, and has been nothing short of helpful. And that goes a long way when you feel lost.

  • Provider Jennifer Ramsey does not care about you.

I signed up- had a meeting with my provider- I waited 15 minutes- then she finally joined the meeting- by this time I was aggravated that she couldn’t join at the appointment time. She made no introduction- she just said “what’s going on with you today” - I had already completed assessments and questionaires- people going through things mentally have good days and bad days- “what’s going on with you today” is a horrible question after making me wait for her to join the meeting. If I am expected to join the meeting on time- is it wrong to have the same expectation for them? Maybe my time is not as important as her time is? Maybe showing up late to an appointment is the status quo. I then had an appointment with my therapist- a few days later my provider sent a message telling me she hopes I get the help I need somewhere else.
This is definitely not the type of experience I expected from a therapy providing website. The provider, Jennifer Ramsey, couldn’t be bothered to be on time, and she made me feel like she didn’t even go over the assessments I completed.
I am canceling my account with Brightside immediately and will share my experience with any and everyone who wants to hear it.

If you want to feel uncomfortable, unimportant and insignificant then Brightside is for you- if you actually want some mental healthcare, I’d advise anywhere else. I have definitely learned my lesson.

  • Incomplete

The concept behind this app is awesome, but in practice it doesn’t work. They don’t ask the right questions during the check ins which skews the results. Primarily, whether or not you’ve actually started the medication prescribed. I reported this to the help desk and was told to answer the questions as best I could, which isn’t at all when the only options are “I’m not feeling better” or “I’m having bad side effects.” There should be a sequence for “haven’t started” that leads you to explain why. It’s annoying when I can’t actually answer the check ins appropriately and that the development doesn’t take into consideration multiple scenarios, edge case as they may be.

  • Choose the provider thats best for you!

Great first impressions with this program so far. I needed care quickly and Brightside delivered. Got matched with an excellent psychiatrist and was able to get medication the very next day after signing up. Just started talk therapy as well. Therapists have always been hit or miss for me, I think that finding a great therapist is very personal to each individual. I’m glad that it’s easy to switch therapists if needed. Overall, I would recommend brightside to a friend. It’s worth a try if you have been struggling to get help. I’m not sure how worthwhile it would be if my insurance didn’t cover it though, you might want to shop around for the most affordable help you can find especially if you need prescriptions.

  • Lack of communication sent me forwards

The reason I left is in detail below. I am a COMPLETE mess at this very moment!!! Things are pretty horrible in my life and mental health right now. Brightside completely screwed me up medication wise and the absolute LACK of communication when I really really needed my psychiatrist to at the VERY least respond to my text msgs. A day or two, absolutely get it. But over a week several times when I had crisis, bad side affects to meds and making sure my disability was continued. Absolutely HORRIBLE. I ended up in a observation psychiatric ward for two days LAST Monday because of this neglect of care, compassion and advocating for my metal stability and well being. I would like to request a full reimbursement of funds! In a timely matter. I would rather not pursue this legally, especially in my current state. But I absolutely will if need be. I expect a full response, and when my refund will be expected. This is not OK!! Unstably yours, Adam Jon Stafford
