  • This is amazing, but-

Hey, so after using Dreams for a couple days I’ve noticed some great things, and some small things that I think really should be added. So for starters, I think adding the selection/lasso tool from the original app into this one would be really helpful. I find it quite frustrating not having the selection tool in flip book or in the timeline when I need to select certain parts of the drawing. Also I think bringing the quick menu also from the original app into procreate dreams would also be helpful when I want to copy and paste certain layers and items. And having the auto eclipse/line tool in Dreams would be amazing. It’s hard trying to draw a line or circle tying to make it perfectly straight or round but then it won’t do that like it did in the original app. But other than these main things, I think you guys have a great thing going that I think can turn into something remarkable if there was just a couple more features added. You guys are doing awesome, especially since you don’t charge a subscription fee. And having all the brushes from the original program into Dreams is also something I really appreciate. So I think there just needs to be some improvement but I’m really excited to see where this goes.

Hey Princessbeeee7 - thank you very much for the kind review of Procreate Dreams! We are for sure working on more features and functions and we'll keep updating the app as we move forward with improvements. Some of the things you've mentioned are already being worked on, too! We will endeavour to keep building up Procreate Dreams, far into the future. We are grateful for this feedback!
  • Great Potential, Though Currently Underbaked

If you’re looking to buy this app expecting a plethora of features from the original to carry over, please don’t. This app more or less feels like a fresh start, possibly needing years before catching up to the full utility of the original. While this was not totally unexpected and I understand the difficulty of making this kind of app alongside high expectations, it still feels a bit too far behind from what it could’ve been. While I’m sure they’re working on some updates to flesh it out a little more for the time being, I doubt it will be enough to suddenly make up for all the caveats with using this app. I would only suggest buying this if you want to support the developers and start learning how to use it early, it is also admittedly a comparatively low cost of entry for what it may offer in the future. I want to rate it 5 stars and I look forward to what the devs make of it, I don’t want to sway people from giving it a shot. I just can’t ignore the occasional freezes/crashes, lack of core features from the original app (can’t customize brushes, no automatic shapes or line assist from what I can find, limited to no select/transform tools, and the list goes on).

TLDR; buy it if you want to support the devs and try it early, don’t buy it if you feel unwilling to put up with it in its beta-like state.

  • App has a lot of potentials but still in a buggy state

I managed to animate with the app but in a hacky way. I would say that it is decent but might need to wait for few updates for it to show its full potentials..

First of, keyframing was a bit messy, there are times I couldn’t add a keyframe. Sometimes i will delete but it will revert back by itself. There are times there will be 2 layers of keyframing in a track which confused me a lot and it was messing around with my workflow.

Second, some parts are not very user friendly. Adding the onion skin setting on the timeframe doesnt even make sense. Also for some reason it is not working either.

Third, undo and redo button is missing, glad i know what is the shortcut for undo from procreate but it is a pain not having the redo button

Fourth, you guys added the drawing function, at least add the picker? But i am guessing it may be not part of mvp and thinking that users will still use procreate to draw

Fifth, i hate how the timeline zoom in and out. It would be great if there is a way to lock it because you can easily get lost when it zooms in.

Sixth, you cannot export to a gif file which is weird not to have for an animation app

I know there are lots of negative on first release but if there will be updates regarding on addressing these then that would be great. Thanks for making this app

  • almost there

It lacks the select/transform tool in drawing mode, liquify, and the ability to extend frame exposure when there’s no gap between adjacent frames.
i really appreciate the flipbook, but the controls are a bit clunky.

    Developer Response

Hey UlIaNa354 - Thank you for using Procreate Dreams and for sharing your feedback with us. In terms of extending frames, you can achieve it with Procreate Dreams' Timeline Edit feature in combination with the Content push/pull gesture. Please refer to the Content push/pull steps provided in our Procreate Dreams Handbook at help.procreate.com/dreams/handbook/interface-and-gestures/gestures#bd3769ab7c11. Apart from that, we have noted down your feature suggestions and we hope to bring you an improved experience in future versions of Procreate Dreams. 🤗
  • Missing features and really buggy

Procreate Dreams is a good app for absolute beginners, but I expected more on release. It is missing many features even for a basic animation/drawing app like selection tools, reordering layers and a brush editor. The layout is nice but the app crashes very often.

    Developer Response

Hey Kevin - Thank you for using Procreate Dreams and for sharing your feedback with us. The Selections tool and layer arrangement function are currently in development and you should be able to expect it within the next few updates of Procreate Dreams. In terms of Brush Studio, we are planning on keeping it exclusive to Procreate, as it is a feature particularly designed for Procreate as a dedicated illustration software. However, you can import any customised brushes from Procreate into Procreate Dreams and all the settings will be preserved. As for the crashing behaviour you are experiencing, could you provide us with a bit more information so we can better help you? Specifically, does it happen after a certain action? Are you able to replicate it in a new movie by undertaking the same steps? Once we have more information from you, we will do whatever we can to assist you further. 🙏
  • Potential, but incomplete

This has a lot of potential to be amazing, I’m looking forward to seeing how it changes over the coming months but I feel this was released prematurely. The frame by frame features are lacking, there are lots of basic things missing at the moment that make frame by frame more difficult than it needs to be, like no selection tools in draw mode, no intuitive timeline ripple editing of drawings, even no way to easily move drawings around on the timeline without having to group and ungroup drawings, which takes 3 extra steps than it should. I feel like they could take a page out of TVPaints or Adobe Animates book in terms of timeline functionality for frame by frame animation.

That said, the flexibility of the program seems very exciting and the interface is very sleek. I feel like some functionality or ease of use has been sacrificed in order to have a clean ui. As i said, I see so much potential and I’m really looking forward to seeing how this shapes up. Hopefully the developers address these issues!

  • Cool app lacking features

I’ve been using procreate for a long time and when I heard about this app I was excited.
I’ve been wanting to be an animator so I was really happy. I’m still learning and honestly don’t know a lot so maybe some stuff wasn’t added for a reason.

The first major issue I have is for what I know I can’t change the pen pressure sensitivity. I went into preferences and in procreate you can change stuff like motion stabilising, Pen sensitivity but that stuff wasn’t there apart from one thing I wanted to change which was “Draw with finger”.
Another thing that I realised is you can’t hold the pen down to make a shape, or select things. Everything that used to be in the top left is gone, unless they’re in different places and Im blind, i mean i’m wearing glasses totally possible 😂

Ofc the app is new so I expect a lot is probably gonna change and Im sure a lot more features will be added in the future.
Im excited to see what else will be added.
(Also sorry if this is a second review my last one randomly disappeared and I have no idea where it went)

  • It’s good! Needs improvements but good!

I am a beginner animator, I haven’t really dug deep into it but when i did animation on procreate it was okay, simple, this takes it to a new level! In some ways its easier but in others it isn’t. I might still just be adjusting to the learning curve and made a mistake but when doing a track clipping it over a different track i made loads of things (colour change, movement, Gaussian blur)
And it started crashing real bad, i couldn’t save the video or even zoom in on my tracks. Thankfully i deleted the track and it stopped but im hoping this doesn’t mean if i put loads of stuff on a track it’ll just crash cause my iPad is Gen 4 air, so it’s not like super old or anything….still i really am enjoying this the more i learn how to make it work! Is it worth £20?
Not fully sure…i think £15 definitely, maybe with future updates and me becoming a more avid animator it absolutely can be worth the one time payment of £20!!

  • A good start

I’m going to change the stars as the updates roll in lol
    (Current 2 stars)

Procreate dreams is very easy to use and understand. A bit clustered I’ll say but that’s always been procreate for me. The main points for procreate was being able to import your brushes and that’s lacking here, as well as an option to create and edit your brushes. For example simply wanting your brush to be stable isn’t even an option. As well as onion skin being very jittery and not being able to see some lines clearly if you have smaller and sharper lines, not being able to select, copy and paste, move around or warp and distort images can be a bit irksome esp since I’m so used to procreate already having all those features. For $30 AUD it’s definitely not worth the amount, but I have hope in procreate to do better as they always have and hopefully always will. Looking forward to future updates where these things can be sorted!

    Developer Response

Hey Softsta - thank you for the review of Procreate Dreams. While editing brushes will likely remain in Procreate, you can import custom brushes and Brush Sets one at a time from Procreate to Procreate Dreams. Simply ensure the apps are open side-by-side, then drag an individual brush or Brush Set from Procreate to the Stage area of Procreate Dreams. We're definitely adding some of the features you mentioned, too! Be sure to keep updating as we move forward, and thanks for your understanding that Procreate Dreams is version one and we'll continue adding features and functionality over time. 🙇
  • It’s good but missing a lot of very important stuff

The first thing that really bugs the most is not being able to move layers. It make drawing more complicated stuff next to impossible. Yeah I get it that it is bran new but this really should have been available on launch. Another big issue is that for some reason there are clipping masks for the timeline but not for the layers so if you want to be able to shade something or change the color of something you ether have to use dozens of tracks or you have to carefully color once gets old fast. Together these two issues make coloring asspeslly coloring animations and other complicated shapes next to impossible. Because of which I have to move my outlines to medibang so I can properly color them. Besides those issues it’s been pretty fun and any other issues so far I’ve been able to work around it. Something’s I would like to see in the future would be a select tool, being able to move multiple frames without grouping them, shape tool, slight increase to the onion skin layer cap to maybe 5 or 6 because 4 most of the time will work but on slower animations with alot of frames close together can be hard to see. I bet 80 percent of these are going to be added within the next month but not being able to move and add clipping masks to layers is incredibly annoying
