  • They can do SO much better (edit: im still figuring stuff out)

Ive been using procreate (the regular version) for like a year or so now? and switching to this afterwards just confuses me more as its similar, but has way more flaws. this animation app is decent! its just definitely not for beginners, and the controls are very annoying. If they added more of the original features of the regular procreate, i think id probably enjoy it more when animating as id have more experience, but honestly this app is just frustrating and not worth the money. If you’re a skilled photoshop user, you can probably use this but if you’re starting out id keep to flipaclip. (Also please fix your undo system its so painful, and let me change brush settings!!)

EDIT: you can import procreate brush packs by dragging them over into the app via split screen. i found this out from a tiktok and now im exploding. +1 star

Hey Yasai - thank you for the edit! We are glad to hear that you were able to get the imports working, and we've since improved how this works in the just-released version, too. We will continue to add more features and functionality over time, so thank you for the feedback! 😄
  • refund

    can i have a refund

    Developer Response

Hey there - we're sorry to hear that you'd like a refund for the app. If you would like to pursue a refund, you can head to this Apple article (https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT204084). If you require help from us with using the software, please let us know.
  • Lots of potential

The multitracking makes it a lot easier to animate complex scenes than in Procreate. Still missing some key features from Procreate, but they are on the development roadmap.
  • Overall a really wonderful app! 💗

Absolutely loving using Procreate Dreams so far! It’s the first animation program I’ve used that felt accessible for someone who’s learning to animate. And for a new app, it is incredibly well made (nothing less than one would expect from the Procreate team, ya’ll are great). There are a few things it would be nice to see, but I absolutely recommend this app, it’s really, really good.

Okay so things that I would love to see (and that may well be coming in later updates idk we’re only like a week in):
    - Brush customisation like in Procreate (specifically being able to edit how streamlined a brush is? I’ve been exporting customised brushes from Procreate and then importing them into Dreams as a workaround, so it’s not too bad, but it would be nice to do it all in-app)
    - The ability to merge tracks! I’m sure there are work arounds but it would be super useful, especially when it comes to doing line-art
    - The ability to alpha-lock a layer! This would be really helpful when it comes to re-colouring something.
    - A similar select/magic wand tool to the one in Procreate. As far as I’m aware, the only way to select and manipulate something is to select the whole frame. It’d be really nice to be able to select individual bits of a frame.

Anyway, like I said, this is a really great app, and I’m sure it’s only going to get better with time. Really appreciate all the work that’s clearly gone into making Dreams a reality. Thank you guys 💗🩷💖

  • has a long way to go

really happy there’s now a better way to animate on procreate! as someone who hasn’t really worked in animation before, i find the ui very easy to use and generally the app isn’t too hard to get used to. the app being able to separate rough animatics dropped in into frame is very handy. what i find the strangest is that so many tools on procreate are gone on dreams? the things that made procreate so smooth and easy to use was easy brush settings and how quickly i can transform my work so i don’t understand why it’s gone backwards! i’m begging for the lasso tool to be implemented into dreams because that is the major thing holding this back imo. having to edit brushes in procreate to then transfer over is slightly annoying but it’s not so bad.
also i’ve been having the issue of it randomly freezing and closing down, my work is always saved luckily but it gets annoying after a few times. i’m working on a 4th gen air so i can’t see it falling down to I'm running an app too powerful for my system.

Hey molly wo - thank you very much for the review, and the feedback. Some of the tools you've mentioned are planned for development in the future of Procreate Dreams, so be sure to keep updated as we move forward! This is doubly recommended because each patch has included stability improvements, and may help with the other trouble you've been having. 🙏
  • Lacking.

I really wanted to like Dreams, but in its present form, it feels like a half-realized product that needs several features to even begin to compete with the alternatives for anyone who’s remotely serious about creating with it. My gripes are many, but off the top of my head: I need a lasso tool. Having to re-draw things when I need to make just minor changes is a huge pain point. I also need to be able to adjust more about my brushes than just the size and opacity. It’s great that I can import them from elsewhere but I still need to be able to tune them. Finally, though this may be minor to some, I need to be able to take my onion skins out of pegs. It’s a big time-saver that I’m missing dearly when I try to use this app. All that said, I guess I’m just aggravated because if I need to create something quickly, there are far better alternatives on the market. They might not have a one-time price tag of 20 bucks, but the one I’m thinking of actually isn’t all that much more and frankly is worth the difference. All told, I’ll probably end up using Dreams more as compositing software when I’m too lazy to open up Resolve, but in its present form, that’s about all I care to do with it. I’m looking forward to seeing how things pan out in future updates, though. I trust Procreate, I’m just not thrilled with Dreams in its current form.

  • A few problems

It hurts to give this only 3 stars, but it feels like the most suitable rating I can offer. I’ve been having a pretty okay time with the app, but there have been issues.

Crashing is relatively common, or it freezes and I have to reopen it, which isn’t too much of a bother.
Otherwise, every other problem I have isn’t really about what *is* here, it’s about what *isnt*

Clipping masks within the drawings, lasso tool, being able to colour with the “bucket” on a separate layer, moving layers around, etc etc
Just a lot of things that already exist in pro create, but not in Procreate dreams.

As well as that, however, I do have some suggestions. If it’s not already possible, I’d love if it was possible to select multiple drawings or images at once, and move them around, duplicate, etc, altogether, instead of having to do it individually.
And if that IS already possible.. just ignore me.

Overall I’d say this is a step in the right direction, but I can’t say this is my go-to. At the moment, procreate dreams feels less like an actual animation app, and more like an editing app, like CapCut or Kinemaster, with drawing slapped on top of it.

I trust the team to make up for all this in future updates and additions, after all, they made Procreate.

  • Pretty great so far but there's room for improvement

I love the experience of animating with this app, but my exceptions were a bit let down since this is from THEE Procreate, so I hoped there would be all the valuable tools Procreate had in Dream. However, it was too simple, and though Dreams simplification is good for starters, it is also a bit of a bad thing for the ones who are used to the whole layout of Procreate since things like the lasso tool and such aren't featured in Dream, making the job of animation a bit tedious, not to mention the app sometimes freezes and closes but luckily saves all of your hard work instead of set you back to the beginning, so no skin off my nose there.
But for now, my rate of the app so far is a 4, and I can't wait for more updates for it to bloom into its full potential!

Hi Monkes-on-mars - For general performance improvements we recommend updating to 1.0.6. We are also planning to add a lot more features to Procreate Dreams in the coming weeks and months. You can read more about this in our Procreate Dreams roadmap post: procre.at/roadmap
  • Great potential

Love the app, Just need the shape drawing assistance as well as snapping from procreate in it. Edit: you also can’t move the drawing layers in the same drawing

Hi Sinalab - It is coming! At this time we can't promise a timeframe for it as it still needs a little longer in development, but we'll get it to you as soon as we are able.
  • Please consider shortcut keys

I’ve been looking forward to this app since it was revealed. I loved being able to animate in Procreate due to the simplicity, however, the one thing holding me back was the lack of layers and time in which I was able to animate, which I hoped Dreams would remedy. I’m aware this app is still new and has so much potential, but in the future would there be a possibility of shortcut keys added similar to that of Procreate? At the very least for the drawing part? While I understand that using only touch is suppose to be intuitive, I use a keyboard when using Procreate since my nails make it difficult to touch the screen properly. It helps so much to have shortcut keys, so I was a bit bummed when I found that dreams did not have any. Using dreams felt awkward for me, as I had to bend my fingers or use both hands just to undo and redo, which made it more troublesome considering I have a habit of pressing undo until I get the perfect line stroke.

Aside from that, there were some bugs I experienced, such as the app not detecting my Apple Pencil when in drawing mode, or it freezing entirely. Also when I tried clicking to the menu with the other dream projects, it would not let me leave the current project I was working on unless I restarted the whole app. I really want to see this app succeed, I look forward to what it has to offer in the future.
