  • A good rating is much too kind

I’ve been using online Walgreen’s app for several years on my Dell Laptop. Within the past 2 years I have been using both an iPhone and Laptop to access my records. For the past 4 months I’ve been ordering RX refills from either source but when I contact pharmacy they tell me they never received my requests. Examples: I requested 2 refills and only 1 was received. I requested an Rx be sent to me and waited 10 days to receive it but it never came and I had to phone pharmacy for an in store pickup. I requested a refill via phone and was asked if I’d like auto refill. I said yes and then received a msg that it would be sent within the week oct 1 but I just ordered a 90 day supply to be picked up in store. Today I received an auto email stating there was a problem with my RX. When I clicked on link in email there was no message.
Don’t you guys think it is time to upgrade your system? I am wasting too much time which is not the intent for using a smartphone. There is another lengthy problem with provider submissions of all Rxs at time of annual exam but I’m not going into it. Please either fix the errors quickly or I will change pharmacies.

  • Photo section needs work

This review is only about the Photo section of the app. There has to be a better way to submit a photo order. After going through all my pictures and selecting them in various sizes, I never made it past the review order screen because it took over an hour to “prepare and upload photos”. It doesn’t let you submit the order without going through this process of uploading and preparing the photos and there’s no indication of how long this process might take. I don’t understand if you’ve always uploaded them to the website yourself in order to select them, why do they need to get uploaded again? I did have a large number of pictures but I don’t understand how it can take over an hour to just sit there and stare at a loading screen. And if you venture away from the app, it only takes longer. Essentially rendering the rest of your phone is unusable until this process completes. I had to cancel my order and do it on the computer instead. Which is annoying because most of the pictures are on my phone, so it’s now extra work for me. There has to be a better way.

  • Descent into uselessness

This app used to be amazing, a real model for what a huge company can do when it devotes resources to being a good iOS citizen. But for the past year? maybe two? it seems like they’ve overhauled the prescription interface every two or three months, becoming less iPhone-like with each revision, and this has corresponded to it becoming almost completely unusable for me.

At first it was refill requests that not only disappeared, but deleted the scrip from my account history, so I’d have to get a brand new prescription from the doctor. Now I’m having the same issue noted by some other reviewers, where some/most of my refill requests go into an “Action Needed” state that requires me to call or go by the store. Invariably the local employees act like I’m a fool who doesn’t know how to use the app, but in fact the app is directing me to bother them, for seemingly no reason other than its own inability to function as it should.

Perhaps my problem is with a deeper rewrite of Walgreens’s internal systems, and the worse UI is a coincidence. At any rate, this app went from amazing to execrable over the course of a couple of years, and it’s sad to see.

  • Prescription part of app is faulty

I have tried to use the Walgreens app for several months now to manage my prescriptions. In theory, it should be easier than having to call in and input the prescription number etc. And it is easier—until the pharmacy keeps not filling things right, not having record of my request for a refill despite the email I got after I requested a refill
On the app, having duplicate listings of Meds on my auto refill list —each with different refill dates and not maintaining my selections for auto refill. (If I have to go in and toggle the button on for auto refill each month, is it really auto refill?). I have been patient, as all apps have glitches here and there and i figured they were working out the bugs, but really it just gets worse and worse and i waste more time going to the store just to find my meds aren’t actually ready, despite an email telling me it’s ready for pick up. I am not wasting any more time with it. I will go back to clumsily managing meds over the phone because at least that was accurate. Let me know Walgreens, when you have a functional prescription app, because I’d love to try it out some day.

  • Auto Refill

I love this app, it makes it convenient to refill my meds easily. But auto refill always gets turned on! I had it on because it had been convenient. But then they’d start sending me refills four days before I need it, giving me extra, but then it’d refill again 30 days after the last refill. So eventually, I’d have a month supply stocked up and I’d be sent even more! So I turned auto refill off for all my prescriptions because I’ll handle refilling them myself. No problem. But now every time any med gets filled, it turns the freaking auto refill option back in! Each and every GD time! I know it’s a small task to change it, but now I can’t refill one med because it was on auto refill to be sent home (I prefer to pick it up in person, I don’t want my meds stolen). I turned auto refill off for that and changed my setting to always pick up in store. But now I can’t refill that one because it still thinks it’s being mailed even after the feature was turned off, because it was already sent to be filled. So irritating! Please include a “remember this selection for future prescriptions” option! And make it actually work!

  • Good and bad

I’ve used Walgreens photo app for a few years now. It’s convenient and fairly easy to navigate. However, most times it takes FOREVER to upload, which is an issue if your phone sleeps before its finished. The color is typically good and photos are clear, which is why I gave three stars.

My biggest issue is that so much of the picture is cut off each time. I’ve been told to go to the crop option and adjust the edges, but it still doesn’t help. For example, a few of my students wanted a selfie of us. We knew those on the edges would have a tiny bit cut off, but on the original it’s a little hair not in the frame. Even after checking the crop feature to make sure the frame was as large as possible, it cut the people off on each side so much that we each had half a face! Seriously, it went from being fully in the picture (minus a little hair), to each of us having the entire side of our faces, including one eye and half a nose, completely gone. My six year old students have been very disappointed. This has been an ongoing issue with multiple photos. Walgreens employees have not been successful in helping, so something needs done farther up in the co.

Lastly, why can’t an order be saved, so if it glitches everything isn’t lost? Again tonight I spent over an hour editing over a hundred photos. When I clicked next it glitched and was gone. Because of this, I changed it to two stars. This has happened WAY too many times.

  • Horrible!

It took me 1.5 hours to add 6 items to my cart because the updated app kept making me log in over and over and over again. Pain in my ***! THEN, I go to check out and....... “sorry, an error has occurred, please try again later.” Also, wouldn’t let me search for items. Didn’t show in my savings at checkout the $9+ in “rewards” that I’d accumulated. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. This frustration might actually be enough to keep me from coming back. Used to love ya..... ****UPDATE.....I’ve been trying for 4 days to to place my online order. I can’t remove items from the cart and navigating is all over the place. I can’t “attempt “ to place my order again when I need to remove items from my cart and it refuses to let me. I got fed up. I’m housebound and depended on you for years to get items delivered to me. I just finished placing the majority of my order with a competitor. I prefer your items as they are packed nicely and are clean..... but your new app update pushed me to a point. I NEED items and your app wouldn’t allow me to purchase them. You lost my order. I’ll try one more time in a week for a few other items. If you don’t have your app fixed, I’m done with it. Who needs this kind of stress? I’m not going to jump through hoops and spend 4 days trying to get YOU to take MY money.

  • You're going to hate this app with a passion!

If you try to use this app to schedule a covid-19 vaccination you're in for a world of hurt. You're going to have to spend hours each day typing city names, county names, zip codes and if you are extremely lucky to tap at the right time, you'll get a green "Vaccines Available!", and then you fill out a form and at the moment you think you've hit pay dirt, you get stopped cold, and they tell you to try again, so you keep hitting the button, and keep getting rejected, until you get tired, and your session times out and you have to go back to very beginning and start the process all over again. At some point Walgreens' server can't handle millions of people doing the same thing you are doing and you can't even connect.

The problem is that their system doesn't remember that they told you that appointments are available and don't reserve one for you. You're actually racing against thousands of other people to the finish line for a few open spots. It's like an airline telling you that seats are available on a particular flight and not booking you at that moment, but rather telling you to hurry on over and when you get there, they tell you there's no seats and you should try again some time.

What their system doesn't have is conversational transactions. It doesn't use enqueues to prevent separate transactions from accessing the same data at the same time. That's fine for filling prescriptions, but awful for making reservations.

  • Lots of glitches lately

I’ve used the app for at least a couple of years and I always liked it. Recently, though, I’ve had lots of problems, especially with meds on auto-refill. In January a med was auto-refilled when I had purposely taken it off auto-refill a couple of weeks before because I had sufficient supply. Last week I noticed that another med which was due for auto-refill had not been filled, and watching daily I saw that the refill date was moved one day later each day. No explanation, no notice. The pharmacy tech told me I had to reset the auto-refill each time a prescription was renewed but nothing in the app suggested that. The app does not make it easy to know if there is a problem with a refill— it just doesn’t get done and eventually you notice meds are missing and call the pharmacy.

One thing the app does do well is to track what prescriptions have been filled and when. And usually when I order a refill through the app (rather than auto-refill) it works okay. Deliveries have not been consistent lately but I think that may be a delivery service issue not related to the app itself.

  • So buggy to the point that it’s almost useless

This app is the worst. It used to be great, but all of the changes they’ve made over the past 6 or so months have made it so buggy that it’s barely useable. For the past several months, I’ve been unable to use Walgreens Express to order my prescriptions for delivery- despite the fact that the prescriptions are fully eligible. I have to instead call the store to have them do it manually. I’m completely unable to do it on both the app and on the website from my laptop or phone. It’s hit or miss if the app even properly loads my medication status. It doesn’t always submit refill requests for me. Now, most recently, I can’t even get the app to sign me in! It’s just been saying “service unavailable” for the better part of a week. How am I supposed to use this to manage my medication when it’s so horrendously unreliable. If you’re going to overhaul an app that people rely on for medical reasons, you need to have better testing in place to make sure that it’s stable.

Update: It’s been broken for months. I still can’t use the app for basic things. I’ve decided to delete the app and just stick to calling the store instead. It takes way longer and is infinitely less convenient because Walgreens’ phone systems are awful too, but at least the people who work at my pharmacy know what they’re doing and are used to hearing customers say that the app and website don’t work anymore, so they’re happy to accommodate.
