Great accounting tool but lackluster app

As an accounting system, our team likes using xero after recently replacing Quickbooks. This app however is pretty minimal in its functionality. I have all the apps for whatever tools we use, except for this one. Dear developers, please create an app that we can use to actually get stuff done.

Xero Triples subscription cost with no warning

Xero announced that it is removing the core feature of being able to reimburse yourself or your employees for business expenses unless you pay and extra $5 PER PERSON per month. The $30/month subscription is quickly dwarfed by this cost if you have even a small number of employees.

App is an absolute joke - useless on mobile

Cannot update/refresh the account feeds from this app, so the account balances and transactions the app presents are “stale.” Useless on mobile. For instance the app shows me account data from 1 week ago since I’ve been traveling.

Absolutely useless

As other reviewers have said, this app is very basic in its functionality, but I’m not even sure what the threshold of basic is here. All I wanted to do was log in to my workspace account and see dates of when I was going to get paid next, rather than having to go to the website. It asked me to download another Xero app called Xero Me, and even that couldn’t tell me what I was looking for.

Plus the design of the app is so bad that the numbers in the app lock at launch are too close to each other to prevent spurious inputs. In general very poorly conceptualised and designed.

Finally

I’m a CPA with 20 years experience and specialize in financial systems applications. Xero is fantastic and this App does what it is supposed to do and it does it very well. With my clients and myself, I use this App to enter receipts, reconcile Bank and credit card accounts automatically fed from the bank, and issue invoices to clients. I also use it to upload files to my Xero file storage. I don’t use this App for financial reports, adjustments, or other things it does not allow (of course) but I do everything else in Xero cloud/browser. Xero is very intentional in its design. Learn it and you’ll love it.

Don’t bother.

Constant issues with feeds. Data lags behind by days if not weeks. When there is an issue it can take hours to fix and get your accounts in order. If you use Xero as part of another paid accountancy service and it goes wrong, your accountant will likely charge you extra for fixing Xero’s mistakes.

Personally I have over two weeks of transactions missing after having two months of transactions ‘doubled’ by Xero setting up dual feeds with HSBC. £30/month is a disgrace when you’re trying to start a new business and you spend more time fixing your finances than working on your business.

If it’s not sorted for me soon I’ll be using another service or just putting my receipts in a lunch box and saving myself time and money.

What’s the point of an app that only gives you 10% of the website

Great, if you want to look at historical data or look up a contact. You can’t create an invoice, receive a payment, manage inventory nothing. The website is 100% more functional than the app.
