  • Useless

I NEVER write App Store reviews, but decided to make this one my first after inked wasting wearily wasting 20 minutes with this POS app. I previously had it all set up with the digital secure key (to replace the physical one that I’ve since tossed), but when I attempted to log in just now the app seems to update itself and then wipe out all of my settings! Now I can no longer log in and security key has disappeared, which — of course — is required to make any changes to the account. Completely worthless app not befitting a mega-rich, multinational bank. Do better!

  • Easy to use.

I’ve been using this HSBC app for over a year.
It’s easy and simple to use for checking your account balance,
but it’s seriously lacking in useful features.
Just wish I could see more of my transactions, go further back through past statements, check and amend direct debits or standing orders.
Also it would be nice to scan cheques in too, because HSBC has unfortunately made a terrible mistake of deciding that in my city we all must have free time to waste travelling miles to the only branch they’ve left us?!

  • Very very slow

Compared to my anz and Westpac apps in nz, this app is utterly useless and clunky. It takes at least a minute to log in to the hsbc app versus about 5-10 seconds on my other banking apps. There are very few useful features and this clearly hasn’t been updated it was first created, rather just new features bolted on. The time taken to log on is an absolute minimum as well, having timed it, a quick log on time is 50 seconds, a slow one can be anywhere up to ten minutes which is utterly useless

  • What is wrong with HSBC IT?

I’ve just got a new iPad with Touch ID and wanted to be able to bank on it like I do from my iPhone. It’s enough of a struggle to set it up - you need a separate password from your app “secure key” password. If I ever had one I have long forgotten it. Then you discover that you can use Touch ID on only one device and are left with your extra password for the other one.

And when you get into it it’s clunky and too small for your fingers.

Don’t go saying it’s for security - my Nationwide apps work fine with Touch ID across all devices. I’ve been with HSBC for 40 years. I would leave now were it not for the complications of notifying new account details to the people I deal with. Nul points.

  • Pathetic

Very poorly crafted app. For starters, recently downloaded it and while registering it, on those unavoidable steps like selecting a security question, the app simply doesn’t show the options, as if it had frozen or something, and there’s nothing in this world that can make it show you the options so you can select one and move forward. And don’t blame me, I’m having trouble with it using an Iphone 7. After a lot of aggrivation I decided to speak to someone in the chat who maybe could help, just to realise that the chat works through an overlay (very impractical for phone apps!) also very poorly built making it a REAL NIGHTMARE to control, just like when you try to access a desktop version of most websites using a phone with all of glitches and challenges. Finally, after many attemps I was able to chat with someone, with little to no interest in assisting and a scathing inaptitude in the English language.
Long story short, I’m gonna have to register for online banking using a desktop computer and hope I can access it from my phone later on using the app. I sincerely hope it doesn’t simply get stuck again when I try do a transaction with it. It’s pretty ridiculous, better off with other companies that understand the importance to have stable, reliable softwares with user-friendly interfaces. I honestly am considering closing out that account and moving on to another card!

  • HSBC + App = Stone Age

Ok, this mobile banking app has to be one of the worst apps available to the banking consumers. For regular updates and features this app is non-existent, it’s really only useful to check your balance. If it’s only good for that, then I’d rather just use a PC and get semi-full access to my account and features for banking.

As a HSBC account holder I feel that the mobile banking app doesn’t even come close to other banking apps such as Barclays; Nationwide; Lloyds; Santander to name a few are far superior in accessing your account and accessing all the features as if you were in a local bank branch.

The app fails on so many levels but where it does succeed is in its ability to connect global accounts, where you can see all your HSBC accounts in one place including loans; credit cards and savings accounts, pretty handy if you ask me.

Personally I avoid the app like the plague, what I have done instead is linked PayPal to my bank account and just transfer money to other bank accounts and use their apps instead, just because other banks mobile banking apps are far more superior and are updated regularly to accommodate newer phones and devices.

Why oh why are HSBC stuck in the past?

c’mon HSBC get your ***t together and get a decent app out there. The younger generation will need this functionality that other banks are providing through their apps, ignore them and you’ll have and ageing customer base.

  • Actually the worst app ever created

Having more than one bank account has never been more relevant to me. I can simply use the Lloyds app, which is a million times better (but anything is better than awful - which is what the HSBC app is). It’s now a time for banks to prioritise ease of usage and simple easy design over anything else.

For this, I offer advice to those who do not have/want to open another “proper” bank account which requires you to go to branches and talk to someone, and say why and all that nonsense that should’ve been killed off in the 70s, and open a Monzo account. It’s a great way for you to have an app that works and isn’t horrendous, and soon, Monzo will start having proper current accounts and then you won’t need another bank period.

  • Worst Banking App I’ve ever used!

I have several accounts with multiple banks. Decided to get the HSBC GOLD MC because of offer they sent me in the mail with a decent APR and no Foreign Transaction fees but this app is a deal breaker. I’ve had the account for a week now, everything set up, Touch ID working but I CAN’T SEE ANY INFO on my transactions!

What is the purpose of this ancient UI with no REAL TOOLS to assist me with my banking? I’ve used the card multiple times already and even set up some of my bills for auto pay using the HSBC MC and I can’t see any of my transactions...NONE! One week later app STILL shows no transaction history. Where is the REAL TIME crucial transaction detail a consumer MUST HAVE access to in order to budget themselves properly and most importantly monitor for fraudulent activity?!

I honestly I’m thinking of just closing out the account and going with Barclays Bank. If I don’t hear back from anyone on this forum or don’t get a reply regarding this review I will take my business elsewhere.

  • Runs slow, even on iPhone X. Annoying security.

This app does indeed run slowly. I thought the problem was my older phone, but it runs badly even on my iPhone X.

Worse, one is only allowed to use the app from a single mobile device. Have multiple phones or pads? Forget it. Furthermore, to switch you need access to the old device and have the app installed on it. This is annoying. I think I’ll just pay off my credit card with HSBC and deal with people who understand technology, like Capital One.

  • Extremely dated but works ok

The other reviews aren’t wrong; is it incredibly dated. It harps back to when the late nineties & has very few features (comparatively speaking). However, what it does, it does well, it has all I need in a banking app and that is Fast Balance (the ability to see the balance in your account at a swipe without needing to log in) & I’m able to send money to my payers that I already have attached to my account.
Do I wish I could set up a direct debit or standing order? Of course, for an app like this, it should have all of the features the main site does. I don’t have access to a desktop other than at a public library, so for things like that I have to go into the branch, which isn’t exactly local to me.
Overall, it does what it absolutely needs to, but that’s it.
