Rewards Card

Im a night manager at an Exxon so I use my rewards card all the time. I have about $54 in points that I can’t use because apparently if you use your card multiple times a day your account will be under investigation. So I called and talked to someone and they told me it’ll be 10 days before I can use my points again. I’m in NC and trying to save up after being out of power and on a water boil advisory so the points would definitely help. Making this more so that other people know. If you can’t use your points and tend to use it multiple times a day and also don’t work a driving job you’ll need to call them and talk to support. I don’t use the app much however, only to see how many points I have but seems to work pretty well. They’re also talking about terminating my account that I’ve had since 2019. I came back to this review after a while and my points still don’t work, they stopped getting into contact with me. So as an Exxon night manager I don’t believe I’ll be recommending the rewards program to anyone else. I used to because it helps out a decent bit but having over $50 in points and not being able to use it I’ll really just be saving people time….

App sends you to non-Exxon Mobile stations

In the last year or so, a few Exxon stations that used to be my regular go-to locations near airports and tunnels have closed . I’ve learned the hard way that Google Maps often lets you navigate to defunct Exxon Mobile gas stations, so a few weeks ago, I thought I’d be clever and punch in the same address into the Exxon Mobile Rewards app. After confirming the hours of operation in the app, off I went. Sadly, the integration between this app and the ‘Exxon /Mobile station location database’ seeme to have failed OR, whoever sold that gas station didn’t update the database in a timely manner, because it brought me to the same old location… except that it had been turned into a shiny new BP station. I pulled up to a pump and the app prompted me for a pump number… and then of course, promptly failed to authorize expenditure at a BP pump! Dev team: seriously, forget the points if the Station Locator can’t accurately serve up a valid Exxon/Mobile location. Run the synch more often if you can’t run the query in real-time. Or go upstream to the business to update the database as soon as a station shuts down or is sold. You can’t be sending us to your competitors!

Buggy

There’s an ApplePay bug that if you decide to apply rewards dollars towards your gas transaction, the app issues two holds on your ApplePay log. The initial $1 authorization and the final total paid (including any discounts) which is the correct transaction. If you don’t apply discount dollars/rewards, the initial $1 authorization is changed to the final transaction amount and you only have one pending transaction on your ledger. This is a glaring issue you need to fix ASAP! Should not be happening as total passed to the authorization transaction has ZERO to do with rewards discounts… it’s the same final total on the same authorization/transaction. Get your junk coding fixed!

Would be nice if you allow scanning in of transactions done under Guest so that they can be added to a use profile once created. And the app has a major issue with the birthday setting where the website signup had just MM/DD with no place for year and the app basically shows a generic month placeholder with the year 2000. Seems a bit lame if that was your way of being secure/anonymous about it. If so, maybe denote that in the app under that field or if you hit Info on it so the user knows, especially since it can’t be correct AT ALL, even by support. Who thought that was a good idea?

Works 2-3 times a year if I’m lucky; I get gas 2-3 times a month!

This app would be great if it worked all the time. 99% of time it provides “oooops something went wrong” error when I activate the pump. The app already knew where I was because GPS is turned on, but something happens when you try to use the rewards that you already have and activate the pump and it never gets to the iPhone to ask for payment. It just provides the error and then if you try a second time to activate the pump, you get another error message that says sorry you can’t activate the pump more than once in a day and you have to wait 24 hours. This defeats the purpose. what happens is I don’t get the rewards for the gas that I’m about to purchase because I wind up using my debit card and the debit cards the same payment that’s attached to my Exxon Mobil app. However the app wouldn’t activate the pump and wouldn’t take the five dollar rewards that I had. Hence I hardly ever get Rewards when I do it’s very seldom and when I try to use them it doesn’t work. It’s not just about the rewards. It’s about the convenience and not having to go into a gas station and not having to touch a touchscreen in order to pay. It has worked probably 5-6 times since I installed it during covid - but I get gas every week to ten days and all the stations around me are Exxon Mobil stations.

A “downgrade” not an “upgrade!”

Having used earlier versions of this app for years — easily, successfully, happily — our experience with this so-called upgrade has been atrocious! Just getting it set up for use — something supposedly as easy as entering our XOM credit cards as payment methods — has required multiple, frustrating, time-consuming efforts. We finally got mine to work. But, despite a dozen attempts, my wife’s app still refuses to accept her XOM card — a valid card she used to purchase gasoline as recently as yesterday — generating repeated “your card could not be validated” error messages. So then we called the support phone number shown and spent 10 minutes “arguing” with the automated response system that had no idea how to help, finally routed us to a representative, only to learn that the office was closed and we can now look forward to going through this whole terrible process again tomorrow. The app used to work easily and well. Whoever thought this version would be an “upgrade” should have his/her/their head examined — this is absolutely a “downgrade!” If we could rate it zero — or even negative — stars, we definitely would! :-(

Now always “too far away”

UPDATE: They updated the app again to add the pay button back. But every time I’ve tried to use it, it tells me I’m too far away even though I’m at a station right next to the pump. The closest it shows ever is 0.8 miles away. Location services are on with precise location enabled. What an s-show this has turned out to be.

This update is a classic demonstration as to why I need to turn off auto-updates. This new version is an update for update’s sakes. 1) The new version needs a brand new login and authentication. A bit inconvenient to stumble upon. 2) The biggest problem is the as others have mentioned is the lack of pay through the app. This is a massive omission between app versions. Namely the convenience of using a few taps from within your car to handle payment. The other is security against skimmers. Without a payment option, this becomes nothing more than a directory, promotion vehicle and geolocation tracker. So what is the plan, Exxon? If there isn’t an option to pay from the phone in the next incremental update, then there’s no reason to keep the app.

Pre-update this was a GREAT app…

I have been using this app for years. I never had any kind of issue. Anytime I pulled into a gas station, the gas station immediately picked up the phone and I could select the pump. I wanted to use and go. I understand the software has been updated internally, and this new update is wrought with issues. 1) I had to sync my card back up to the app and it wouldn’t allow me to do it many times. I had to uninstall and reinstall the app several times until it married up. 2) Something is wrong with the mapping system. The majority of Exxon are no longer on the map. Since they’re not on the map, you can’t use the remote pump to start pumping your gas. It’s as the majority of Exxon gas stations have all disappeared. They are not on the map at all, including my favorite Exxon. 3) when I pulled into the gas station. It synced up to another Exxon that I was nowhere near. I had no option to change stations. The old layout had a button and the lower right hand corner that you could press and one of the options was fine the station, and then it would sync up to your station. That no longer exist. This design stinks I may change gas companies and go to another carrier because this app has really let me down.

Great App for paying for gas

Edit: October 2023, ver. 16.1, App works great but they really need to add it to the CarPlay interface. Apple opened this functionality over a year ago with iOS 16, but so far ExxonMobil has not taken advantage of it.

I downloaded this app when it came out since I have been a long-time Mobil customer. In addition to Apple Pay, I added my ExxonMobil credit card to the payment options (set it to default). I’ve used the app twice so far, once paying via the ExxonMobil card option and today using Apple Pay. Both work well. The app uses your location to determine if you are at a SpeedPass Plus station. You open the app and select your pump number. It authorizes, then you select your gas grade on the pump. After pumping, you get a notification of a receipt on your phone. And, I got the same notification on my Apple Watch! Very cool and lightning fast!

Always out of stock

I shop here usually every day because it is convenient. However over the last year I dread stopping because I know at least 5 times a week they are out of what I usually buy. I always buy two Starbucks mocha drinks and Palma’s red one hundreds along with gas. This last week the store has been closed 6 times because they were short staffed Everyday for the last two weeks they have been out of te cigarettes I buy. The same rude employees act like I am bothering them when I want to check out and I get the eye roll if I ask when will more of whatever they are out of or if they can check in the cooler to see if there are any in the back. The two employees that I have constant issues with is a large black but light skinned black lady with a super short hair cut dyed bleach blond. She never has a name tag on. The other one is even more lazy. He works the night shift and if you show up after 230 the doors are locked and he is either sleeping in his car or hiding in the store. People bang on the door and he ignores them. He was licking his finger when he was about the check the person out in front of me. He touched their stuff with his just licked fingers. He had been eating chips. It was so unsanitary. Then I asked for my cigarettes and was told still out this is two weeks now and Starbucks he tells me he isn’t going to check they are out. I was actually glad he was lazy this time I wouldn’t have to wanted him touching my stuff at all.

Awful to even worse

Latest update: Last time the app had an update, I got logged out and was prompted to log back in. Now whatever I do, no what later which method of signing in I use I can’t get in. Not even by trying to change my password!

I was able to use it once “as a guest” (I.E. not getting or using my points at all), but now even that option isn’t even available. Don’t get me wrong - I know my password, I know my log in info, it just won’t log me in. I get “an error has occurred” every time. Thought it was a glitch and would be rectified soon as the support team realized the app had a big, but no, it’s been a few weeks now and no change.

Time perhaps to change to a different gas station - one that has a secure payment method that actually works.

Precious version: There are two things you want to do with this app: pay for fuel and find a gas station. They have removed the ability to find a gas station with this new app release. Fair enough - we can use google maps anyway. But now the only reason I’d use the app is to pay for fuel, and you actually have to search to find the button to pay for fuel! Stupidest app update ever. Wish I could revert to the previous version.
