    Amazing
  • Frustrating

There is so much that could be improved on this app. I have troubles seeing my surfs with each surf in a perpetual state of syncing. I can’t see the maps of where my surfs were, again in a perpetual state of syncing. And when I got to the option to see other parts of the app other than ‘Following’ or ‘My Surfs’, it wigs out and doesn’t allow me to utilise or customise it. Even the webpage version doesn’t work that well for me most times as I can never see my surfs. The watch misses waves as well. Whether that’s a GPS issue not finding the satellites or an issue with the watch itself, I have no idea. I had one surf where I caught 12 waves, but it only recorded 4 and it had nothing to do with length of ride because the 4 it did record were the same length or shorter because they were the first four waves I caught. I love the idea behind all this but it needs some serious improvement.

  • Needs a lot of work

Always having problems. Love the idea of the watch and love it when it works but now it won’t even let me log in, I’ve deleted and reinstalled. I went to my laptop and installed there and it lets me log in but just spins “busy”. Tells me “oops we have a problem”. Lost a bunch of surfs. The people I’m “following” I’m not getting their updated surfs since Jan 1. No kidding. $400 waste of money!!!! Can’t anybody come out with a better app???

  • Absolutely awesome!

I have been using these watches for years I am so stoked on that words can’t explain it
  • Sometimes useless

Many of my sessions take days to download. Some never download. The top speeds are off - too slow - because the averaging period between gps points is too long. Or too fast - probably because the GPS loses position and calculates speed after regaining position. For hydrofoil rides this app is unable to cope with pumping back out, so one ride gets chopped into a series of short rides. Overall; limited benefits for the effort of recording a session. Looking for another option now.

  • The best feature about the GPS watch...

I have been surfing since 1987 and got the original RipCurl GPS watch in 2015. I am addicted to it...and if I forget to wear the watch for a surf...I have to go home and get it. Yes...it has a bunch of great features highlighted on the app description...but what is not highlighted is by far the best feature - the ability to read your GPS coordinates while surfing. What this means is that you no longer have to triangulate objects on the coast in order to know where you sit in the lineup. I can paddle out at my home break and sit pretty much exactly where I want to purely based on memorizing the last portion of GPS digits which relate to specific parts of the reef or recent sandbar. If a rip current pushes everyone in the lineup off the peak...I know exactly where to paddle back to. I also love this for surf trips. You can step off the plane in somewhere like Nicaragua...never know the break...but after sitting near the takeoff you can again memorize the last digits of the GPS coordinates and quickly sit as deep as you want and catch a ton of waves...just like you have the place wired from years of knowledge. Anyway...not sure if what I described makes sense...but managing where you sit in the lineup based on GPS and not via triangulation is by far...a game changer for any surfer. BTW...it is 2020 and I am still using the same version 1 GPS watch since 2015. Had to superglue the watch band once a year...but after spending over 500 hours in the water, catching over 8,500 waves...I think the watch has performed incredibly!

  • Has potential to be great but app is holding it back

I set my time with gps function every time but watch still doesn’t get the timing right with Surfline sessions clips. App is overall pretty buggy hope they update it.
  • Sporadic

Sometimes watch will sync with this app sometimes it takes numerous tries and sometimes it won’t sync at all. When it works it’s very good info but just too unreliable.
  • Very Very Bad

I am lucky if I can sync properly 10% of the time to get a wave and wind report. Very rare to actually get a wave and wind report on this watch. It will sync my runs and surfs properly enough but cannot EVER get a wind and wave report with Surfline on in the app. Wave counter only works properly on head high waves so no groveler waves. This idea was great but execution is very poor. Disappointed in this product from a reputable company.

  • Slow to respond & update changes

The site needs to be more responsive... it is slow to acknowledge changes... then when you go to delete certain entries/activities, they always return when you next connect watch for an update. For crying out load, make editing/changing of the data more user friendly & reliable.
