  • Full stack mobile app

    Pixelmator for the iPhone is amazing and all, but it lacks a couple basic features;

Canva rotation: canva rotation feature is a necessity for me personally and others my agree.

Clip masks & layer mask: been using the app for a while (not up to a month) and I’ve noticed it last masking ability or maybe I’ve not been able to figure it out 🤷‍♂️.

  • Don’t bother if using on an iPad

Quite possibly the worst $10 I’ve ever spent. I was googling apps that allowed you to darken shadows on a face in a photo. Basically just changing the lighting a little. I landed on the Pixelmator website and it showed the tools to do just that.
I went to the App Store and found Pixelmator. Since it was $9.99 I figured it was the pro version. Ugh. The iOS version is very basic and does not do what I saw advertised on their website.
I went back to relook the feature. It said Pixelmator pro which is what I thought I purchased.
I went back to the App Store and found Pixelmator pro with a different logo and was unable to purchase it for iPad. The version I previously purchased was only for the iPad. They are both from the same company.

**Be careful to purchase the version that is compatible with your device. I spent $10 for features that are subpar for editing photos on an ipad**

  • App is worthless with almost no tools

This app hardly does anything and the developers should be ashamed to be charging money for this. You can’t even adjust the font size of added text, something you can do with Apples basic photo editor! That’s just the beginning of all the things that are wrong with this app. It’s as if the developers have no concept of how to create a useful mobile app. I’m constantly encountering the most basic of limitations with this. Save your money and time. This is nothing like OSX laptop application of the same name.

  • Absolute total waste of time

I’ve been a fan of Pixelmator for the longest time, but they have one problem they refuse to fix, or at least they haven’t in the last six updates. If you were working intensely on a project the app may suddenly shut down and eat your entire project, leaving you with nothing more than five or six pixels, and no way to re-create. Again, I say, beware unless you’re masochistic and enjoy watching hours upon hours of work disappear don’t use this app.

Followup: another warning if you multitask this app is not for you. The second you swap apps regardless if you’ve spent hours on the project the (#%@&$*) app will give you the finger and just forget the past 3-400,000 brush strokes you had completed. No you will be insanely frustrated and question your sanity for trying the app again.

    Developer Response

Hi there! We're sorry to hear you're having issues with Pixelmator for iOS. It would be great if you could drop us a line at support@pixelmator.com with some more information about this crash - namely, your device model, iOS version and the steps and/or files needed in order to reproduce it. We'll do our best to get it fixed! Edit: We'd love to hear more about this multitasking bug as well. Please get in touch with us and share your workflow and what exactly happens - does the app crash, does the document close, or does it stay open and just revert to a previous version? Are you able to consistently reproduce this issue, or does it seem to occur randomly?
  • Latest version very buggy

Most recent update is very buggy. I don’t remember what they say they “fixed” but I can tell you what they broke. You have a 50% chance of the app saving your changes. It may just spin and spin and never resolve back to the file screen. Then after restarting it, your changes are gone! I’ve have to force quit it multiple times a day. I have a very capable M1 iPad Pro fully updated. This should not be happening. Often just opening the app results in a blank grey screen (even if it was already running in background) it’s back to being unusable and a constant risk of losing hours of your work. Export things out before saving or you may lose an entire day. I did.

  • I’ve been using this app since the beginning!

Love the app! Except… please allow for input when selecting text font size! Having to hold the + or - button is absolutely ridiculous.
  • My favourite app is ruined now

My heart is broken. I used to be able to do such fine work in Pixelmator, but sometime in the last 2 years they’ve ruined the clone tool, you position the anchor but then as soon as you go to the target area the anchor moves to the target area & literally bobs around with the cursor. It’s unusable. Copy & paste is also bizarre now, it pastes to a random point outside the image & you have to go & find it & try to move it back in without distorting it. I’m going to have to find another app, or just learn Photoshop. I literally only use Pixelmator now to ‘repair’ out the occasional light socket etc from a background because the iOS native photo editor still doesn’t have a repair tool.

  • I’ve loved this app for awhile but please fix this with new update!

I’ve been using this app since 2015 and it has been a great app with everything I need and more. Unfortunately with the new update that came out recently I can’t darken photos like I was able to before. I loved using this feature and it’s sad to see it change. Please make it darker so I can darken my backgrounds in my photos!! Otherwise this app is great!

  • One of the very best photo editing apps

I’ve used this app for photo editing and further creative tasks and it’s always delivered.
  • No ability to work with GIFs

The app itself is terrific, which is why I’m rating it four stars. But the inability to work with gifs is very frustrating, and shouldn’t be a limitation of such an expensive app.
