Clown World. Pay Amenity Fee to be Solicited for Services
Upon downloading & opening this app I was OUTRAGED by the fact it obviously serves as a sales/revenue generating business NOT the typical building resident program. Why am I paying an amenity fee ($50 per month) to have a business (Hello Alfred) push various products and services on me? I have to PAY for this privilege to be solicited? Is this a joke?
The business model is primarily geared towards rental buildings where tenants have no choice and the cost is dropped on them in the way of amenity fees. Hello Alfred makes money off their services and the building makes a cut of that fee. I suspect without the costs being passed/forced upon the tenants Hello Alfred would turn into Goodbye Alfred.
I went back & forth on chat (no phone number) with Alfred rep which was more frustrating than helpful. I asked to speak to a supervisor in the United States. The rep claimed she/he/it was located in NYC. I was never connected to a supervisor as per my request.
It took the customer chat rep 2 days to come up with a solution to email Alfred directly in connection with normal building requests (elevator, maintenance) and also to remove my email from all of Hello Alfred’s sales solicitations.
All of this would be frustrating if I wasn’t PAYING for this service but it’s worse because I am PAYING for Alfred. I should be able to perform building requests (building link) and pay my common charge/rent (Clickpay) as I do with my condo in NYC WITHOUT Alfred’s sales garbage and via a secure website with simple opt out function for sales solicitations on a website.
Thanks a lot!!
Thanks!!
They describe this as the'future of living. That's one way to look at this..l
I DOUBT m(ANY) would equate THAT self-penned blurb as the 'future' of how you contact your property's manager (a super, management, etc.).
Yeah, if this is ANYthing, it's how to put (yet ANOTHER🙄) layer (a wall) between 'them' and you.
I never heard of this (garbage) 'til I received a text from my building's management. It's so 'gushy', and knowing that they (building management) are most definitely NOT, it's far more likely that they 'spit out' this bit of PR regurgitation to all their tenants.
Let me now tell you a little about me and this management company. Prior to moving into this place, I lived in buildings where all one had to do if they had ANY problem was to let the building staff know (e.g., my kid's toilet was not flushing), and they would say, 'I'll take a look.'
Almost always, by the end of that same day, one could come back to their residence and find the problem had been solved.
That's FAR from this place.
From day one, there were issues. I first did what most people do—let the problem 'fix' itself. When that didn't work, I found the super. I again said (I'm ALWAYS polite. I'm NOT just saying that because it never benefits you to be 'mean'), 'I'm having a problem.'
His reply WASN'T, 'I'll take a look.'
His exact reply was, 'What did you do?'
I was a bit shocked at being spoken to as if I were this person's pre-adolescent child and not the 30-something adult who pays a lot of money to live where I do.
As this took me aback, I gritted my teeth and said, 'I'm sorry, what?!?!'
What this person continued to say was so 'devolved' that I immediately pulled out my phone, turned on record, and put it back into my jacket's breast pocket.
About right before Christmas (when everyone has their hand out - and I'm MORE than happy to 'gift' one for a job 'well done', but I won't be suckered into doing this with anyone who doesn't do what they're supposed to).
All the power in half of my residence suddenly went off. My natural thought was to check my circuit breakers, but it wasn't that. By the way, though I'm not 'cheap', I don't try to be purposefully wasteful. When I was very little, I remember the OPEC oil embargo, and my parents instilled in me the habit of turning off lights, etc., when not in use.
This particular day was about 10 a.m. Luckily, I was home, relaxing (trust me, that's a rarity, as I usually am up VERY early).
I was in my bedroom - in my bed, drinking coffee and eating breakfast as I read the paper.
I contacted the (idiot) super again.
He came in, and I said, 'Half the power's off, and I've checked the circuit breakers. It's not that.'
What was his reply?
'What did you have plugged in and turned on?'
My blood was boiling.
'Sir, I prefer to keep the lights low - it hurts my eyes. Additionally, as (he could) see, there was practically nothing plugged in in that part of the residence - I hadn't been able to move in, as I was swamped entirely.
'Whatever it was you plugged in overloaded it,' he said.
'Sir, short of me plugging in the transformer for an electrocution, there's NOTHING plugged in!'
Thank goodness I taped it all.
I immediately ended the conversation, called the property agent, and said I needed them to come over - and they did.
I told the agent precisely what I've just told you. The super yelled, 'That's a lie! I never said that!'
Without saying another word, I let the recorded conversations I'd had with him play - on the speakerphone.
'You called me a liar? Think I've made up things about you?!?!'
Yes, I know I'm venting a bit, but my point is this: Could you imagine how much worse the situation (for ME) would be if this Alfred thing was in use then?!?!?
My good news is I'm leaving this nightmare very soon, and I promise I'm taking him and this company to court.
Where I'm going is a place I'm going BACK to.
The thing about that place is that they don't use things like this, and it's a place they want me back (no, not just because of its cost, but the staff know me, and I've even had several come up to me when I was making preliminary looks at the place, and they said, 'I hope you're coming back').
I am. Who would want to spend money and time only to be treated worse than a tenant of a communist-era 'shtetl' (hovel)?
Racist company
Terrible app
Alfred
I am not asking for this app. I am forced to get it.
It has to be free. It’s the end.
Issues
Pretty bad
Paying your rent through it literally just opens a link to whatever website your property owner already uses to handle your rent.
