Waste of time

The onboarding asks a whole load of questions before hitting you with an unskippable payment screen. Waste of 10 minutes. There are other better apps for free

Response from developer

Hi, Thanks for your feedback. Just to clarify, our onboarding typically takes around 1-2 minutes and helps us personalise recommendations based on your symptoms, triggers and goals. We also offer a free trial, allowing users to try the app before committing to a subscription. For those who continue, plans start at less than the price of a coffee per week. The subscription helps cover the costs of AI, food data, servers and ongoing development, allowing us to maintain a high standard of accuracy and continue adding new features. Many free alternatives focus on just one aspect of IBS management. IBS Pal combines food analysis, symptom tracking, AI insights, meal logging, trigger tracking and more in a single app, helping users avoid needing multiple different apps to manage their IBS. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

Keeps changing

I really wanted to like this app but it seems to get more difficult to use when tracking food instead of easier. There use to be the option to scan a barcode, not just look it up in store, but also when entering meals. That option is no longer available so the only option to enter meals is to scan your meal or use manual entry. Very recently the manual entry now forces you to enter a weight or it won’t take. I don’t walk around with a food scale in my pocket so I am left guessing. Clearly the app want to force you to use AI tool of scanning meals. I find that tool is not always accurate so I prefer manual entry. Now to medications. There is no medication entry & I occasionally use medication for my IBS. It would be nice to have the information in the app. The app had great potential but with the constant changes making more difficult to use it’s not heading in the right direction.

Response from developer

Hi, Thanks for the feedback, we really appreciate it. Just to clarify, barcode scanning for meals/products in the journal hasn’t been removed, and we’re definitely not trying to force AI meal scans. The barcode option is still there, you just need to scroll across the top navigation bar to access it. We’ve also now added medication tracking to the app as well. For serving sizes, these are required so the app can give accurate FODMAP tracking and AI insights, since portion size heavily affects FODMAP levels. Even an estimate helps improve accuracy a lot. We really appreciate the suggestions and will keep improving the app experience.

OK if everything you eat has a barcode

Whilst the app is good it has it’s limitations. For example I use Gousto recipes and unlike My Fitness Pal which recognise these IBS Pal does not or I can’t make it. I have tried to scan meals and it has not always worked and the AI is far from perfect. It would be great if I had the functionality of food logging of IBS Pal and My Fitness Pal in a single app but neither does everything.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback, we really appreciate you taking the time to share it. You’re absolutely right that the AI isn’t perfect yet. It can’t always identify every ingredient, especially with mixed meals or where some ingredients aren’t clearly visible. That said, you can manually add or edit detected foods, which will instantly update the IBS rating. You’ll find this on the meal scan page by tapping the “+” to add foods or the pencil icon to edit what’s been detected. We’re also continuously improving recognition and working towards better support for things like meal kits and recipes. Really helpful feedback, and we’re aiming to make it a more complete all-in-one solution over time. Thanks again for using the app 👍
