  • Great app- So many features!

I would firstly like to start off with how incredibly handy this app is. It has so many features such as flashcards, radical lists, Kanji lists and almost as many lists as you can think of. The ease of use for the app is amazing as it’s readings are so precise and detailed with the addition of radicals per kanji etc .(I’m not sure if other dictionaries has included this as this is the only online dictionary app I use-) As someone who is attempting to learn advanced Japanese , this app provides you with so many opportunities to grow in your vocabulary and kanji memorisation.

Overall, I’de recommend this app to you anyone, whether beginner, or advanced!

  • Fantastic!

This is the best dictionary I have ever used. There are so many features that make it an truly excellent learning tool, including the many example sentences which have really helped me to see the different nuances of similar words. This app has been an incredible resource for me both in improving my understanding of Japanese and also my reading skills. I highly recommend it.

  • A perfect app. Invaluable.

This app has done wonders for me. it has everything I need and (almost) everything I want.

The only 2 things I want are:
    - a way to give the dev money (seriously! even to donate!)
    - A widget that shows a random example sentence on my homepage every specified interval that i can read while flipping into different apps

Thanks so much for this app - without it I would say learning Japanese would be taking me twice as long as it has been.

  • Excellent app! Lots of functionality and info.

I don’t normally write reviews but I’m very happy to give this app 5 starts. Not only is it a great dictionary, but the options for searching words are great! You can write in romaji, English, kana, or hand write the kanji itself (assuming you know the stroke order) to find words. It mentions which words are common, gives plenty of context and examples for words, and is generally just a great app. It’s organized well, runs very smoothly, saves your previous searches to quickly find that word you looked up yesterday, and is overall just a fantastically designed UI.

You also have access to features such as flash cards, notes for yourself, and more really cool features. I have not used many of these resources myself, as I mainly use it as a dictionary supplement to my other Japanese learning material. The Kanji lists in particular are quite neat. Easy recommendation!

  • Lost without it

Honestly the best app I have found for quickly looking up words. I have just started using the Flashcard setting and wish I had used it sooner. The scratchpad on flashcards is amazing for practicing the kanji or writing the kanji in hiragana before turning it over.

The only thing I wish it would have is pitch indicators. I would even pay for this to be an add on.

  • Love it, very useful

You’ll never need another Japanese study app (especially one you have to pay for). This one is FREE! You can draw kanji on the app to find out the meaning, and you can also draw a couple at once. This is really great if you don’t want to lug around a kanji dictionary and search through pages for one specific kanji. This app makes it incredibly easy to look up kanji. There are example sentences for many words, phrases, and verbs. You can also click on any words to see the meaning in those examples. There are break downs of all words and kanji stroke order. I often use the kanji stroke order tool to improve my handwriting. You can type English words to see translations and it tells you when it’s a very commonly used word. This app is really useful for learning kanji/ vocabulary and is a tool I often use when I read books written in Japanese. I don’t use it as a translator though. I use a translator app for that. I would very highly recommend this app to anyone who wants to supplement their Japanese learning. I recommend using this app in junction with a textbook.

  • Incredible

This app is a game changer for me. The words are easy to find, whether using the in-app search-by-radical feature, or by just typing in the word. The ui is extremely intuitive. The example sentences are extremely useful. The maps feature has gotten me out of several ghettoes. The built-in Geiger counter has saved my life on multiple occasions. When I had a run in with the yakuza while I was visiting Kyoto, I just showed them this app on my phone and they just gave me 10,00 yen and left me alone. On my Japanese dating profile bio I just wrote: 「シラベ事情があります」
And I got over a hundred women to show interest including my future wife.

Shirabe Jisho is like a father to me, especially since my dad walked out. It has made me a better man.
Thank you Shirabe Jisho, thank you.

  • I love this app as much as WordWeb!!

This app is really versatile and it helps me learn Japanese a lot! I hope there could be a function like the app “Wordweb” where you can get a random word to learn by shaking your phone or tablet. That would be very helpful.
  • MOST USEFUL APP FOR LEARNING JAPANESE

I use this app ALL the time. You can even use it OFFLINE. It is the most useful app for learning Japanese because it is so information rich. If you come across a word you don’t know (whether it be written in romaji, hiragana, katakana, or kanji) , you can look it up. It also shows you how to hand-write different kanji! Including the stroke order, which is super important. The app actually has an edge against the website only because you can favorite words. AND you can make study flash cards from any word you’ve favorited. With just a few button presses it creates a flash card set for you. If you’re learning Japanese, this is a must have app.

  • Love it! Simple but comprehensive and FREE

I love this app, I’m a beginner but I find this so useful especially the search function that allows me to type in romaji and hiragana and wild cards. And all in the same search line!
It has search on words, sayings, proverbs, categories, kanji type, radicals, strokes. And detects if you make stroke order or minor mistakes on input.
    Superb.
