  • Excellent Learning Resource

If you’re currently in the process of learning japanese(which you are if you’ve found yourself here), do yourself a favor and download this app. Everything from the stroke orders for kanji, conjugation lists, kanji lists, flash card feature, and search history is such a helpful feature that this would be the number one app I recommend for learners to get. 本当にありがとうございます!

  • JLPT LEARNERS NEED THIS!

I usually don’t leave reviews but I have to about this app. I have been looking for good study material for the jlpt test and this app has all of the vocab and kanji ready to study. No need to make my own flash cards on any other apps because it has entire jlpt sections by difficulty level built in. It’s so easy and I’m so happy I found this app when I did!!!

  • Very good

This is a very useful dictionary. The main flaw is that it auto saves things to the history is you pause while typing. While trying to convert words over i often stop after a couple letters or syllables and the system tries to find the definition. Its annoying to have my history full of “ats” or “gyu” just because i am slow at getting the full word in.
Other than that i use this dictionary fairly often. Some of its usage is cumbersome but i eventually persevere to what i am trying to understand

  • Useful

I’ve been using this app for a while both in the US and in Japan and it’s been really useful. I wonder, though, whether there is a way to get it to automatically clear previous searches when you close the app? I often start entering a new search only to realize that I have forgotten to manually clear the previous search.

  • The one stop shop for Japanese dictionary’s*

Simply the best all-inclusive app out there. Before it scares you away, this is a good thing. Need stroke order? Check, Incredible search functionality? Check. Want to figure out what that kanji you’re looking at is? You can hand scribble in what it looks like to search for it. It has complete conjugations for all verb forms, compound words are all there on the Kanji’s page with multiple example sentences. If that’s not enough, it has a built in spaced repetition system for flash cards of your own creation or through the many prebuilt decks the app offers. Want to learn all of a N# words and kanji? Right there ready to go. All things related to cooking? Pre made deck. I for one enjoyed the mahjong one. It truly is a must have tool for any Japanese learner.

*The one thing that is notably missing is the lack of pitch accent support. It does contain a voice sample but that’s it, but that is far from a deal breaker.

Thank you so much for the generous gift of creating such a very helpful and extremely useful app. This is by far one of the greatest digital dictionaries to exist and the generosity of it being free really makes users appreciative and even motivated to keep expanding their knowledge! Thank you!
  • The best free app to support your study

I’ve been studying Japanese since high school (I’m 29 now). I used an online Jisho in college but I recently found this app while looking for a kanji dictionary and have been absolutely shocked with the quality and depth of resources that are available for free. There are flash cards for kanji, words, and common sayings, and they can be sorted by grade level, JLPT level, frequency of use, radicals, dialects, etc. There are multiple detailed example sentences given in the entry for each word/kanji and the sentence can be broken down to the particle if you click on it. Seriously amazing resource.

  • My favourite Nippon dictionary

This is the type of app I wish I had back in the 90s when I first started studying the Japanese language as a hobby. There are a lot of great features that I’ve not seen in others Japanese apps and I love how simple and intuitive the interface is♥️
  • An Essential Tool for Daily Life in Japan

I don’t really write reviews unless I’m really impressed or really angry. In this case, I’m really impressed. Man, this dictionary is just phenomenal. It has a lot more words than google translate, including some archaic and slang. I mean, they’ve got タピる in this thing. That’s a slang word young people use for drinking bubble tea! How crazy is that?

I love that you can draw kanji if you don’t know the reading or meaning. If you’re an English speaker living in Japan, you need this app. I’ve used it when traveling, signing contracts for cars/apartments, and a lot in the grocery store. I’ve been using it for years and just realized today I’d never given it a review. Peeps deserve recognition for a good app. Thanks for making my Japanese life a little less stressful!

  • Good app

I haven’t explored too much of it yet but the main problem I’m running into so far is that they don’t have the Japanese words written into the english pronunciation… it goes straight from the japanese writing into the english translation but no english pronunciation of the Japanese words so in order to know how to write or pronounce the word you need to know the japanese writing… hopefully that makes sense, its a little hard to explain properly. Other than that its a good app and free which is always a bonus; plus it gives you categories broken down and a section for most common words which is interesting to look at.
