  • Perfect. Stable. Thorough. No ads.

I never write app reviews, but if the the Jisho app asked for a review I'll do one. I use this app every day. My thoughts: this app is perfect. The kanji handwriting is so responsive and easy to control that I'll go out of my way to translate more—improving my comprehension, immersion, handwriting, incredibly useful.

Every kanji has a stroke order and instructions on how to properly write it. The search results are perfectly balanced and detailed. I really haven't even began to fully utilize everything Jisho has to offer. It even has search tags for regional dialects (eg. #osb: Osakan dialect). I'm double checking—I can't believe this app was free? It has no ads.

There is no reason not to download Jisho, whether you use it every day or once in a while, it's perfect at what it's made for.

  • Love it

Seriously love this dictionary so much I have used it all through my university years and afterwards I also used it in Japan and are use it for everything is just amazing it has so many features I just love it
  • One of the best dictionaries app I have used so far.

If you are learning Japanese all by yourself, this app will really help you out throughout your learning journey. Kenjis are differentiated according to different topics such as JLPT, frequency and etc. And what really impress me is that it also have kotoba for different N-Levels which seems really useful to me. Anyways, thumbs up for the developers who have created such a good app and keep up the good words guys.

  • Seriously the best by far

Japanese/English native bilingual here. I’ve tried basically every app JP/EN dictionary app you can get on the App Store, and when I say that this app is leagues beyond the rest of them I don’t mean it lightly. Seriously, look no further. While it isn’t absolutely perfect, it by far does the best at its job.

Also for anyone reading this, I would like to recommend the 10ten browser add on for safari as well (works for iOS - it’s in the App Store!) These two apps together have fundamentally changed my Japanese interactions in life and on the internet.

  • Excellent for learners

This dictionary app has one of the best UIs out there. Very easy and intuitive. The dictionary allows you to search using Japanese or English words, and will also provide animated stroke order pictures for kanji. It also lists words as “commonly used”, “verb”, “noun” etc. to help refine searches.

The only downside is that the example sentences come from JDict. The sentences are made by non-natives learners and do not require a text reference. The quality of those sentences is very poor and I would not recommend using them as a study resource. Other than that, this app is extremely useful and lightweight.

  • Awesome Dictionary

Very good dictionary for all levels of Japanese learning, allows you to write the kanji if you don’t know how to write it and is very useful when trying to find slangs or other words you might not find in textbooks while also giving you actual sentences using all the words that you want. I TRULY RECOMMEND YOU GET IT!!

  • Just an all-round great app

I have had this app for a few months now and no problems have come about. It’s extremely useful, and has an amazing concept, with custom flash cards, a normal dictionary for every day use and word lists. I want to rate it ♾ stars but I can’t. Love it. Keep up the good work, せんぱい。
  • Never regretted

I am so happy that I actually discovered shirabe jisho, I’ve been using it for about 4 years and it helped me study for exams, it has literally everything you need, even flash cards, but I wish they added flash card sharing or something cuz I had a favourites file with over 500 kanjis and words but after I got new phone all that progress is as good as gone. Overall shirabe jisho is the best dictionary out there, the meanings are accurate too unlike many other jishos

  • Really good! I believe this should help you whether you are a beginner or a native speaker.

This dictionary has helped me loads with my Japanese study. The way this dictionary has been designed, you can see that the developers probably use this as well for them to understand which use cases and features are important to be included here. You can search for either the Japanese and English words, there is a breakdown of the word into its kanji and they even show you the strokeorder and examples for the kanji. I happened to stumble upon this dictionary, and I am so glad that I did. This is excellent!

  • Helpful for studies & more!

I initially was recommended to try Shirabe Jisho by another app developer in the language studies field! I’ve come across the website version when casually googling the random Japanese word or phrase, and was delighted to find out about this app.
While I am not any kind of dedicated student, I definitely feel that this app hasn’t given me incorrect information - moreover, it’s even solved some questions I had about certain word choices.

The developer (s?) behind Shirabe Jisho are VERY respectful and responsive to questions and comments about the app, and the once or twice that I double checked and thought I found a bug or error, a response came in under a day - and (if actually needed!) the error was fixed in the same timeframe!

My favorite feature is being able to search for kanji via the stroke input box! I largely have no idea about 99% of them, so i can’t spell them out to search! This is by sight, and is IMMENSELY HELPFUL!!! 🤩

As a complete novice, but thoughtful app user, I definitely use and recommend this one for anyone who wants a good resource! 👍🏻
I love it, and it has a permanent space in my phone.
