  • It used to work perfectly but now the app just won’t open

I have used this camera as a baby cam with both of my kids, it always worked great and I was very happy with it. However with these new features of getting ads via the app it crashes it all the time. Now my baby cries in the middle of the night and I am trying to quickly check what is going on and the app just won’t launch. 7 times out of 10 maybe even 9 times out of 10 I open the app to check on my kids, the app won’t launch. What the point of a camera when you can’t see what is happening because of bloody ads that make the app overloaded and won’t allow it to launch. I bought the camera, it’s not like it’s free and I am unable to use its features because they decided to earn more money by introducing weird ads. I just think it’s very stupid. I need to quickly see what is going on, not spend 15mins trying to close ads before I can access my video feed. Just fix this, the camera at this moment is just an accessory to my baby crib that serves no function since the app doesn’t work, idiotic!

Thank you for using the app very friendly
  • App not working after updating to iOS 16.5

App was great years ago when we can view all full length recorded videos In microSD, until that greedy cloud PAYWALL roll out. Hardware still good but shame on the software buggy iterations after iterations of updates. Get rid of that paywall limited view barrier and Yi Home will get good reviews!

  • Stop changing things!

Agreeing with the review from troutboynz, the app has now started giving advertisements (money grabbing scheme?) and takes longer to load when opening up the app.

These new updates have made this previously helpful app for their products a pain to use.

Might just end up changing to a new security system as it looks like they are starting to drop the ball with this.

  • Yi know know as kami. Rubbish! Con!

One of the reasons I brought 3 Yi cameras for the home is because I could put a memory card in them all and record 7 days of footage. However that all changed about a year or so ago and no mater the size of the memory card in the camera they made it only possible to view 2 days of footage and if you wanted a longer history you have to subscribe to kami cloud. Kami cloud is very expensive I tried it a year ago and couldn’t view my cameras there was huge time gaps and the app crashed a lot whilst trying to access the footage. Today just trying to view the 2 days Yi has restricted me to without subscription is worse than ever. I feel the app has got even worst in another attempt to get people to subscribe but don’t bother it’s just as bad with a subscription. It’s still freezes a lot and then crashes. These camera started out well even tho the sound has always been poor at best but now I will be taking them down for good.

  • becoming unusable due to constant upsells

Five years ago, Yi cameras were a great value for someone who wanted a dropcam-like system without getting locked into a monthly cloud subscription. I invested heavily in the ecosystem, using it as a nursery cam and to keep tabs on my dad when he moved into a medical facility.

Sometime in the last year or so this app has been given to a product person charged with monetizing it. So if you want to use it, expect constant banners and popups encouraging you to subscribe to their monthly cloud plan or upgrade your device firmware to enable some other paid add-on. SD card video gets harder to access and in newer models isn’t available at all. Meanwhile basic functionality remains completely unimproved, like connection speed or the app grabbing ios audio control even when the camera mic is muted.

The reason I bought into this system was to avoid this subscription garbage. If I were to change my mind, it would be for a company in the US that I trust with my data—and which wasn’t a half-decade behind others who’ve been building out their cloud offering this whole time. There’s just a complete refusal to understand why people buy these units, and seemingly a willingness to burn the value down in a doomed play to build recurring revenue. Give it up, folks. You are not entitled to that money and you’re not going to get it. Have a little dignity and stop degrading a product that I already paid you for.

  • So far so good

So far I’ve set up 3 of 4 cameras. The process has been fairly intuitive and easy. Don’t forget to update each camera once connected. The build is sturdy and the articulating pieces allow for almost infinite positioning. A good field of view. Pictures are clear, albeit there is a noticeable delay and a choppy looking picture. BUT, for our purposes, the clear view is more important than the frame rate. These work as designed. The cords come with the USB/two-pronged outlet adapter, or you can simply use the USB connection in a hub. The end that plugs into the cameras is the micro-USB type. The cord is about 6’ long and works for us at each location. If you need more distance from the power/outlet, then you’ll need to purchase longer cables separately. REMEMBER, micro-USB on one end, and a typical USB connection on the other. I’m overall very satisfied. I’m going to look into a cloud account with Yi so we can see multiple cameras simultaneously and see what other benefits come with a full account. At present, we can only choose one camera to view at a time.

  • Better Than Blink

Blink has okay quality, but you have to pay to get normal live view and that was super weird to me. The app wasn’t my favorite either. Yi does all the basics without having to pay, and the KamiCloud subscription is cheap to be able to store your footage. The video quality is great, not like the average grocery store where you can’t see facial features. The audio is clear, the speaker function is clear, the notifications are accurate and helpful. We have them for our driveway, backyard, entry way, dining room, but for our living room we use the 360 camera and I LOVE IT. Controls are simple, we can see absolutely everywhere just by swiping on the controls. The app itself is easy to use, just do some exploring on it and you’ll find all the different functions and options. They are way cheaper than Blink, too. I know Blink can link with your Ring doorbells but it doesn’t bother me. Our ring is separate, it’s not a hindrance really. It’s worth it to get these cameras in my opinion! Big bang for how cheap they are, it’s so nice having an affordable, quality security system.
