  • Meh! Not as good as they should be.

I have been using the app for a while now specifically for purchasing groceries online. It was great at first, then not so much. Not sure what happened. Perishable products either come expired or are about to expire. I pay $5.00 for this service - it isn’t free- so I’m expecting at least for the food not to be expired or not to go bad in a day. Also, the food/products we order were always in stock, and lately we’ve been getting texts “we don’t have this product, would you like this one?” Well, I would expect an equally good product as a replacement or at least a variety of products I can choose from, but NO, you can only choose the suggested one. I gave it 3 stars and not 2 or 1 because some of the employees we get this service from are pretty good, and sometimes they call us to let us know when something is wrong. It isn’t the employees fault that the store is out of stock or the manager tells them to get rid of products that are about to expire first. The idea of online grocery shopping had me expecting good service and good products as if I were actually shopping for them. So to improve this experience please add more products we can choose from, always check the expiration dates are reasonable, and don’t put expired food in our bags. For other things, the app is good and works well.

  • Awful service

I like my in-store shopping experience, but their online service is complete trash. I’ve had a much better experience with Whole Foods. I have been using ShopRite Shop from home since the pandemic and nearly every single time they claim to be out of certain items with absolutely no substitutions (even though I’ve asked to be offered substitutions). I’ve have to go inside the store before or after collecting my groceries only to find perfectly fine substitutions for basics like whole milk, eggs, gluten free bread, chicken and vegetables. With Whole Foods, there are always substations offered and if I accept them, they add them to my groceries. The straw that broke this camels back is when I showed up and had to wait over a half hour for my order and when I finally got home, the order was completely wrong; not one item was mine. Did they make it right? Yes, but they have made my shopping experience so unbearable that I now have to drag my two year old through a grocery store while trying to keep her mask on OR I have to pay almost double to use the Whole Foods home delivery service. Either way, they’ve officially lost this customer.

  • Long way to go!

App shows items in store, then when you shop from home of course shop rite of montague Nj
Doesn’t have it,extremely irritating, they need more room in that store either expand the store or move to a location to build a Shoprite that can compete with Walmart, if TJ MAXX could be convinced to move and they could buy up that space then now we’re talking change there’s just not enough room to to keep the product that people buy on a daily basis, plus they don’t do substitutions on items you order from home that they don’t have in stock, so you get nothing
I grew up eating food from Shoprite @ the Newton NJ Shoprite and they had the liquor store attached in a separate building, always fond memories of going with my mom food shopping every week when I was young, nothing bad to say about that store but if you go 30 years back there was Shoprite,Weis and Acme
In Newton! The Shoprite in montague NJ is STRUGGLING big time, and it’s always been a 24hr store, there’s no reason why they had to follow the leader, and take the 24hour shopping away just because every other store was doing it at the time because of COVID!

  • Digital coupons

Tried today to sign up for the digital coupons for extra savings- Went to CS for assistance and was told to DL the app and create an account... told them I was having a problem because I couldn’t find my card and I was not sure of the phone number, if I can have a new card, she refused saying no because I already have an account (but couldn’t bother looking it up)anyways I found an email from ShopRite and signed in creating a new password- check my account # and phone number... went about DL my coupons but when I got to check out...it didn’t discount... manager put in manually but at that point most of items were in the bag and could not remember everything... so of course at least six items were not discounted.... I just wish the people at customer service can be more helpful instead of brushing you off... that’s why it’s called CS.. a lot of time and confusion could of been avoided. Now I have to go back and try to get my reimbursement for overpaying. Not everyone is tech savvy, but sometimes things are unavoidable.

  • Decent, but still needs work.

In this time of uncertainty, thanks to COVID, this app does come in handy. It’s super convenient to have the order prepaid and ready to go upon arrival. However, it’s not without its fair share of frustration. The search engine is incredibly challenging, I only find what I’m looking for about 50% of the time, and many of the results have nothing to do with what I searched. There are many items still missing from the app’s database, though I assume that’s a work in progress. My biggest complaint is regarding the coupon function. You cannot scan/load a paper coupon into the app, instead you have to use a digital coupon from their list. You have to find the ones you need and tap them to load into your purchase. None of the digital coupons match any of the manufacturer coupons I have piled up in my kitchen, and that’s extremely annoying. All things considered, I will still continue to use the app, but I’m hopeful for some improvements down the road.

  • A to a+ (updated to B)

Adding to my original review below. The last three orders in a row have had errors, items missing from order (not listed in out of stock report). Deli is a big issue, I order 1.5 lbs of meat or cheese, I get .5 lb. (third time in a row). I order high end meat cuts (receipt says what I ordered) but actual product is of lesser quality. Not sure if it’s they are overwhelmed or just the fact they are getting complacent. Worth the 4.99 fee still, but we are just running out of things from the lesser quantity. Any other time I would just stop in any given day, but the whole point of using the service and taking hours to go through the virtual aisles to get exact products is to avoid the exposure since I am high risk.

First it’s a great service for the Covid crisis. Unlike Costco and Instacart which inflates prices to ‘get’ more out of you (compare the prices, you would be amazed what Instacart jacks up)...this is a simple 4.99 fee - well worth it. They send you lists of items unavailable and offer to substitute them if possible. The staff has been kind, courteous and fixes any problem or missed/left item. The app is a breeze to use, via browse or search. I love the previously purchased option. All around it’s been nothing but positive, even when there’s an issue.
    Well done Shoprite!

  • Meat Department

I was on the store last Saturday the 19th and wanted to get an angus rib roast. Was told by the butcher at the order/pick up window that angus roasts never came in. It was advertised as a 4 day sale item. Next week circular angus prime roast and choice angus were both on the front page of the flyer. So the 20th I asked again. Same butcher again said they never came in and both times was rather snotty in replying. So went back 12/26. Same butcher again, light colored hair and glasses and again at the order window, and asked about angus roasts. His reply was no. Snotty again . I asked prime was available... snotty no reply. I asked when they would be in... “I said No” spottier than before. I did tell him the dept sucked. The never came in is used a lot there for not having your advertised meat products. This is not pandemic related as it has been heard before. I have been shopping there since I moved to the area in 9/18. This butcher just cost you my business. As an aside I was a Shop Rite employee for 32 years 27 as a dept manager. There are other options available.... Price Chopper in Matamoras a Shop Rite in Newton and a new Weis in Dingmans Ferry.
I want to add that Katie up front and Katie in home shopping are two great employees.

  • Great that we can order online

It is great that we are able to order online and have our items brought to us while we wait in the car . However, last time we waited over an hour for our order to be brought to us. It was busy and we understand the circumstances, but, more than an hour is unacceptable and a stress for both the employee and the customer. We thought by selecting the option to pick up at the store, it would be convenient and hassle free. Yet, with the time we waited, we could have just gone inside ourselves. We don’t blame the employees who were managing the pickup section as we actually felt really bad that there were so many cars but only 2 employees running around trying their best.

Secondly, the app or website does not show all the items available. Often, they are not shown and when we go inside the store- the item we need is there. There should also be more opportunities for customers to have the service fee waived. Especially for customers who spend significantly every other week at this location.

  • Great service to have

I love being able to order from home; especially since Covid-19. I avoid going out to not risk myself or my family. The app is great but when it comes to what’s offered for substitutions, there is room for improvement. For instance, I wanted a 45 oz of butter but all I was offered was one pack of butter sticks. For one, I think they should offer multiple options, and secondly, I know the store carries more than one brand of 45 oz butter, so they should offer those for me to choose from. Also, they need to also allow you to adjust the quantity for the substitutions. If I wanted 45oz of butter and you’re only offering a pack of butter sticks, that’s not enough. Other than that everything’s perfect. The delivery of the groceries is perfect and I haven’t had any issues. I will continue to order from home. Thank you for making it possible and I appreciate the shoppers that collect my groceries on my behalf.

  • Awful search engine and takes your slot away

The search engine is awful on this site. You get search results that have any of the terms you use so it’s too broad. For instance if you put cream cheese with chives you’ll get pages of every cream cheese flavor they have, and also any other item in the store that has the words “cream”, “cheese” or “chives” in it. There is no way to narrow down by department. So it takes forever to do a full shopping list. The other big problem is that if you leave the app even for a second, it will take your time away from you that you have reserved. It’s supposed to reserve your slot for 90 minutes, and after shopping for an hour, I had to stop and look at my email to see what my mother wanted me to get for her. Attack all of five seconds, but when I went back to the app and continued shopping I found that it took my reserved slot away because I was away from the app even for that five seconds. It’s ridiculous, 90 minutes should be 90 minutes whether you’re on the app the entire time or not. Things come up in real life while you’re in the middle of doing one thing you have to do something else but this app punishes you for it.
