  • Veeery slow!

Bought a Ubigi eSIM for travel through Sri Lanka. Roaming data is incredibly slow and unreliable compared to a locally purchased physical sim. Not worth the expense.
  • Great way to get extra data while traveling

I compared all the options and feel Ubigi is the best value and I was thrilled at how easy it was to install while already traveling in a foreign country. My US plan has roaming but only 5GB before throttling the bandwidth to nearly unusable. This is enough on a 10-14 day trip, but not for long trips. Adding 10GB from Ubigi was perfect.

  • Great esim for overseas travel

Installation of the eSIM based on the instructions was seamless on iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Installed the app after activating a plan and it automatically syncs with the plans/top offs connected to your email. If you do happen to top off it just continues to use the next data on your account.

Helped me stayed connected and great 5G coverage in Japan. Will definitely use again when travelling!

  • Unsuitable for business travellers and families

Ubigi forces you to have a separate email address per device. That makes account management super painful for anyone carrying multiple devices, like families or business travellers. The app will keep signing you out, which makes usage tracking painful. Worse, woe betide if you sign back in with a mismatched account by mistake, such as I did when tired after a long journey leading to a provisioning mess. That’s also when you discover that their support takes two days to respond and demands screenshots as evidence, instead of doing anything useful to improve or fix things. They’re not the cheapest, so this is a premium price for a non-premium offering. Disappointing.

  • Super useful!

We use it currently on our trip in Japan. The rates are inexpensive and to get the eSIM it’s pretty straightforward. We use it a lot and it works great! However, don’t expect it to be fast. If it shows a connectivity strength of about 2 out of 4 bars then you may wait a moment until you have the connection established. For a business trip you will need to connect to a wired WiFi or get another solution.
Tip: If you use Google Maps to navigate the public transportation (super useful in Japan!!), load the area you are in as an Offline Map (google it how to do it) and then it gets way better.
I will use it again whenever I’m abroad.

  • We Love Ubigi!

I have used UBIGI’s eSIM service for multiple trips to Europe (UK, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Greece) and every time the service was very good. The best part, UBIGI does it all on one eSIM — no need to fiddle with new eSIMs on subsequent trips like other brands. I just add service for the new country or region and I’m good to go.

Easy to use and I had great coverage, even in small towns and countryside. Thanks Ubigi!

  • Totally unfriendly app

I have recently replaced my Range Rover with a German brand. One part of that was the appalling Ubigi experience. Couldn’t get it to work and customer service was atrocious. I ended up changing the sim for a Smarty one which worked first time with no issue.
I have just tried to get an eSIM for outside of Europe. Utterly useless again could only buy one for in Europe - nice and glossy when you are downloading the app but doesn’t do what it claims!! Can’t be bothered calling customer service after my Range Rover experiences.

  • Great connection, costlier than others

I’ve used Ubigi for the past 3 weeks across Japan and have had basically 0 outages other than in some skyscrapers. Rural areas worked great along with cities, anywhere from Tokyo to Nagasaki. I do think however that the UI needs a bit of an update, and I am currently trying another service mainly as they are cheaper. Overall though Ubigi is great, at least in Japan.

Hi, thank you for sharing your experience with Ubigi during your travels in Japan! We're glad to hear that you enjoyed the service and that it worked well in both rural and urban areas :)
  • Worked Like a Charm

My experience is based on using Ubigi on a 3 week trip to Japan on an iPhone 15.

Following the instructions were easy. I made sure to prep my phone a few days before my departure. Before my flight took off from the States, I made sure to turn AT&T off. By off, I mean everything possible set to off. If you don’t, your cell provider will likely rack up ludicrous daily charges on your bill.

When I arrived in Japan, I switched to the Ubigi eSIM in settings and turned on data roaming for it. After a minute, I was connected and was able to use the internet. I bought 10 gigs of data which more than lasted my trip with relatively high use. I played Pokémon GO often and used Maps and Google, but made sure to reserve video streaming for when I was on WiFi. Please remember you won’t be able to make calls or texts while using this, so use an app like Facebook Messenger or Snapchat to communicate with people if you have to.

I also got signal just about anywhere! Connection was mostly good in the mountains of Yamaguchi. I also got great service out in the boonies of Gunma. Naturally, connection was also flawless in Tokyo. I did have a hiccup where I couldn’t connect to anything while I was in Yokohama, but I slept on it and it worked in the morning.

I will be using this again for my next trip to Japan!

  • Horrible data

Buy this data if you want to be stranded somewhere with no connection
