  • Flaw and missing items in Photos

There are things that can only be done in the web interface for Synology Photos. Like remove a picture that was assigned to the wrong person using facial recognition.
It should also be a feature to edit date/time of photo through the app (or web page)
There needs to be a way to save facial recognition to the photo metadata.
When in the folder view in the web client there is no way to scroll the list of folders. Yet I keep trying to scroll and end up moving folders.

  • Great app but needs improvement

Great alternative app to Google photos but needs improvement. Developers please incorporate the features that are most useful as Google Photos; upload time, and face and location recognition (I.e. mountains, sea etc.) Otherwise great app for storing your photos and having them in a timeline but it’s really hard to find anything specific. Thank you again!

  • Great but few things can make it amazing

Recently switched from GP to my Synology NAS. I am very happy with how everything has turned out and a lot of the native features. Of course, Google has a couple extra features but some are not 100% necessary for me.
Few things I would LOVE to see in future updates:
    -Removing Duplicate Photos
-Add folders based on a face (to be shared). i would love for my wife to see the kids photos but not every photo (works well on Google)
-Facial recognition for pets? Works well on Google
-Background adding of photos with app refresh on (doesn’t seem to upload without app open, but maybe my issue)

Overall, still love it! So many pros. I love being able to keep my content ‘raw’ and not overally optimized where it loses its quality

  • Need fix

    iPhone14Pro

Shoot videos with prores that takes up about 150GB and this app would not upload files. Comepletely wipes que and I'm not able to proceed any further.

Manually backup the video files via airdrop and ethernet transfer then delete to let this app to work on backing up any other pictures and videos

  • Needs object recognition, better search, filters and more to compete

I’m on DSM 7.1 and have to say that Photos is pretty bare bones.

    Object Recognition:
One critical feature that was ominously removed was on-device Object Recognition. On my iphone using Apple’s photos app, I can search for almost any subject and it finds it in a photo. It’s almost magical and I’m not lying when I say I use it every day. The lack of this feature when trying to sort through decades of photos on my Synology is extremely painful. Please consider re-implementing this, or there’s not much point to the Photos app especially compared to Synology’s own “Moments” app that did this, which they discontinued!

    Exif Data, filters and search:
I also can’t see or search for any exif data beyond a few basic “friendly” metadata fields, and I can’t create automatic albums from exif data either. Can you imagine sorting through a camera roll filled with years of photos mixed with years of iOS screenshots or saved graphics and images, vs legit iPhone camera shots? Apple’s photos app categorizes by type and application. Why can’t Synology Photos?

It’s 2023 and Photos feels like a novelty until Synology plays catch up.

  • Functions but lackluster

A very basic and functional app to backup and view your photos, but nothing more. This app has been out for some time now, and it is really disappointing that many easily implemented functions are still not included. For example, the slideshow doesn't even have a speed or random option at this point. Clearly, the developing team is not aiming high.

  • Perfect Photo Backup

I use this over Google photo and iCloud . Take the time to learn the UI . I’m a Sr Engineer and its really easy to figure out the networking as well and the UI. I recommend this to anyone who want a better option u have control over .
  • Photo backup is somewhat broken on iOS 16

I backup my photos to the default folder which is the device name and has structure of year/month. iOS 16 changed the way how apps access the device name. Now instead of device name as default folder name, it backs up to a generic folder name called “iPhone”.

I have a couple of devices backed up, and now the photos from these devices are mixed in one “iPhone” folder.

Please fix getting device name (Apple has instructions on how to do it). Or even better, please allow custom folder to have year/month structure.

  • Great on phone, Apple TV needs improvement

On my phone this is a great way to backup photos even if I use iCloud and one of the truly useful tools if you want to migrate you library off of iCloud.

On the TV the app needs work. Generally speaking TVs are multi user devices, this is why streaming apps have profiles. I don’t want anyone with access to the remote to have all my photos, screenshots, etc. This is why I never use the iCloud Photos app on TV either. You need some privacy controls. An option to only allow Shared Space and/or a PIN (or better yet, phone auth) to access the Personal Space would be a great starting point.

  • Slow and buggy with super limited functionality

Uploads hanging randomly, if you uploading pics or videos manually , there is no way to track what you uploaded, no sorting , no filtering in local library. Overall seems buggy , slow and functionality for working with local library almost non existent. Only backups are working somewhat properly, although pretty slow as well.
