  • Working all okay until a recent issue

It was working all okay. Recently after upgrading my iPhone to ios16, the default backup folder name has changed to just “iPhone” regardless of the name of my phone. Please fix this bug in the next release.
  • Missing feature vs Moments

Photos is close approximation of Synology Moments, but it’s missing a critical element for me - the “subjects” album, where Moments would also-categorize by a ton of useful subjects (cat / dog / food / sunrise / ocean / etc..).

Unclear why this wasn’t ported over from Moments, but it’s absence is impactful.

  • Issues with backups

After setting up a backup, I noticed I was getting several errors on files that it was unable to move to my NAS. The errors claimed it was a corrupt or incompatible file. Upon further investigation, it appears this app is unable to back up photos that have been edited inside of iOS. I tested by reverting the changes of one of the photos in question. It dropped out of the error queue I and backed up normally.

TLDR: If you have any photos that have been edited, it’s very possible that they will show up in the error queue and will not back up.

  • No Apple TV support. No AirPlay support

Opening up your phone and mirroring it to your TV does not mean “Airplay”. That means your management team decided AirPlay was not worth the development or the priority so they dumped it. This is the last synology and my next one will be truest open. DS Video.. downgraded… SVN…downgraded…. DS Photo.. downgraded. The entire software division is managed by profit and meeting deadlines. Not on making the system better.

  • Wow. Deleting features isn't an "upgrade"

Do not upgrade to this from Moments. Fortunately I have more than one device to practice these "upgrades" on. Or I would have lost all facial recognition. Synology made the genius decision to remove the ONE FEATURE EVERYONE WANTS for all of the most common home use NAS devices. They will regret that.

  • Great with a few issues

    Two minor issues:
App should work without needing to be open on phone. (Swipe closed and it presents a message it stopped working)
Identifying faces is a bit cumbersome since it doesn’t ask to match, have to do manually.
Other than that, it is great having my photos on MY device vs. in someone else’s cloud.

  • bugs

The latest version will freeze while playing the video.
  • Albums view doesn’t retain sort order

Every time I open the app and look at albums, I need to re-select sort by date photo was taken. It seems like an easy enough thing to remember that preference so that I never have to do it every time I open the app.
  • Please support zoom when screen mirroring 🙏

Works well for backing up my photos, etc. Love the simple UI design that get's out of the way.

However, when screen sharing to an Apple TV, can you please support zoom too? Like how the native photos app handles it?

This really limits the usibliity of the app when sharing old photos with the family. Without zoom you often can't see who is who at a resinable distance from the TV.

Please keep working on this app. I bought my Synology just for sharing photos with the family.

  • It’s good but is missing some basic features

Let’s not forget this is an app for managing photos. I need some basic editing functionality like Crop, Rotate, vertical and horizontal strengthening (keystone correction). That will help with the size image needs on the drive.
Another useful feature would be searching for duplicate photos in different folders
