The most stupid thing ever invented
This is seriously the most stupid, over complicated thing ever invented. This is just scandalous that tourists have no other choice but using this app for a single airport ride. + The app is complicated, doesn’t support international adresses. I am wondering if people behind this app have a brain!
It’s a decent start…
That you are is a bit clumsy, and not very good looking. There’s a section if you dig, to save a route, but no apparent way to actually save a route! Choosing a time of arrival or departure should be more evident they clicking on a very small line of text it’s tucked in between two other features.
I could go on, but it’s time to get ready and play bus roulette with AC Transit. Will it be on time? Will it be canceled? Will I get the rear driver who knows that the brake and accelerator pedals should not be pushed hard every time they are used? bone rattling suspension is hard enough to tolerate, let alone the constant jerks and starts from the driver’s inept pedal work.
Kudos to the few who know how to drive a bus smoothly!

Frustrating system
The clipper card and app in principal is a good idea. But the logic with clipper and the general network has a lot to be desired. When I have money on my card it doesn’t always work. When I top it up online it takes an age to get to the card, sometimes 5-10 days. If I don’t tag within the time the money is pending, it expires. It’s like they really don’t want to take my money or use the system. Loading at a station is just as frustrating, machines don’t always work, big queues when they do and when you enquire at the main station they’ll often suggest to go find a Walgreens for a ‘quick’ top up which means leaving the station, not ideal if your train is about to leave and there’s one every hour!
When I consider the above it makes the Uber app a lot more appealing.

Taking money without my consent and a very poor customer service help
I had a monthly pass on autopay that I canceled last August and received a confirmation email about. About a week ago a took the Muni pass and used my Clipper Card after adding enough money to it. For a reason that I can’t understand and that even the costumer service couldn’t explain, when I scan my Clipper card on the bus, the system automatically activated the monthly pass WITHOUT my permission, I NOT even notified, until I see $98 taken from my bank account. When I called the customer service they told that I have never deactivated the auto pay, even if they could easily see the pass was not activated for months. I checked my emails and was able to find the confirmation email I received when I canceled the auto pay in August, so I called again and told them that and they said that they were not able to see that far in the past. I forwarded the confirmation email to customer service email and I was told that they were unable to help me by email because of the privacy policy. So $98 was stolen from without my consent or even my knowledge and nobody is able to help me.

Financial crime to expire loaded cash
they take money and then they expire the money if not used. For a local government associated entity thats financial crime in my eyes. Not sure how many others have lost their cash on the card due to expiration.
Further an entity being in Silicon Valley, it’s not real time payment. Imagine you come to a station and don’t have cash to pay for ticket so you load using this app and bam funds are not available immediately. So you need to take the ride next day when funds are loaded. (I get the physical card might have challenges loading real time, however at minimum online account and app should be usable to pay for the ride immediately after load).
And they want residents to use public transport. No wonder why Bay Area residents don’t use as much.

Overall Review!
So, the app works pretty good for transit directions and assisting with transit connections to/from places but, would be even better if it could establish real-time locations for better accuracy!
Also, started out great for card details and such but, now does not show card activity and loads info!
Hopefully, there will be an update soon to correct these issues and add some new features as I suggested above.

clippercard is a scam
after almost 15 years of using clippercard for muni and Bart, I have come to realize this is the absolute worst company with which to do business. too many restrictions and limitations to include here but you will quickly experience every maddening shortcoming of their policies and “service” from not being allowed to use your card because the funds aren’t available on your card for days after you’ve made the payment and the amount was debited from your credit card or bank account), a ridiculous and pathetic $5 charge per card to consolidate several cards, among other complaints. this company is monopolistic in its efforts and they DGAF about you, your commute or customer service. just bend over and take it like every Bay Area resident (unless, of course, you’re jumping the turnstiles which muni doesn’t enforce anyway)!

Very buggy, Apple Pay integration barely works
Shows cards as being installed on my watch and phone that are definitely not on those devices. No way to disable cards attached to devices that have been disabled - I had my Apple Watch replaced and there’s no way to deactivate the card that was attached to the old device, or transfer the balance off it. And I can’t add a new card to my new watch because the setup button is just disabled. Which I’m guessing is because it still thinks the old card on my old watch is current? No idea, there are no messages about it or way to fix anything in the app.
Lots of other stuff is very broken too. Eg the “edit profile” settings screen is just… blank.

Great idea poorly implemented
I would not recommend using the app. If anything happens to your phone for example it is broken or needs to be replaced clipper will not refund the amount on the prior card and they charge $3.00 to obtain a new card or $5.00 to transfer the balance. It’s ridiculous that one has to pay fees to obtain their funds back. I would NOT recommend using the virtual card. ALWAYS use a physical card until clipper updates it’s policies on reimbursements and provides customer service training to its staff
