Just bad.

Bad, full stop. Wont connect. Signs you out randomly, then you cant sign in to add funds but whoops the bus is already here! Have had to delete and reinstall app MULTIPLE TIMES just to get it to allow me to add funds - not to mention I'm pretty sure it has stollen my funds once before when it finally allowed me to add funds (rarely, even with full 5G service), but never updated my clipper card. This thing is just awful and has probably wasted more of my time and energy.

App Still Needs Quite a Bit of Work

The app is very convenient in theory but has lots of room for improvement. Real time updates on rides, easier processing/less glitching at Muni stations when trying to pay, and faster payment options are needed. I am always surprised how long it takes the app to load the payment amounts for a one-time load. Really like the concept but expect more for SF’s transportation app.

SCAM!!!!!! 🤬🤬🤬

This app is absolute TRASH!!! If I could rate ZERO stars, I would! 😤 I’m new to SF and was told to get a clipper card, as I can use it with both the Bart & Muni. Thank goodness I was skeptical and only added $5 to create a virtual card to my Apple wallet. I received a “payment failed” error message, but clipper stole the $5 I tried to upload!!! To add more frustration, the virtual card never generated! I immediately called customer support, but they are completely useless! The person I spoke to said that my money would be refunded within 3-5 business days…but in the case that it is not refunded, they want me to call back after 5 business days! It’s a scam!!! The NYC MTA is not flawless, but at least their system is user friendly and actually WORKS! Clipper is such a disappointment to Silicon Valley. Do yourself a favor and do not waste your time with this scam. You will just be at a loss of money and unnecessary stress. 🤬🤬🤬

Bugs with the system

- the app system only allows US billing address
- the app does not allow me to link the physical card to the app
- problems with loading cash to the card

Terrible, terrible UX

I kept ending up with cards that would say “see agent” and say “blocked” on the app. Didn’t know what was wrong, agent at station could never help, so I would get a new clipper card.

Last month, my new clipper ran out of funds and I both tried to set up auto load and add funds directly. In the app it seemed neither worked - it has showed just $1 on the card and both auto load and payment “pending“ for the month since then. But then I noticed $80 of charges for that day a month ago on my credit card bill!

Called the help center. Rep explained that when I had added a new payment method, all the old card’s auto loads had gone through, even though they had been “blocked” and had seemed to have a different issue from insufficient funds. **It turns out you have to attempt to travel in order for the “blocked” and “pending” tags to go away?!? Pending isn’t the usual “payment pending”, it’s “travel pending”. 🙄 **

Since payments were made to a bunch of old cards, I needed to consolidate funds onto the new card. To do this you have to pay a $5 transfer per card. Such a racket. One of the cards auto loaded was one I had lost so I asked to cancel it. She said I could rest assured - I should see a “blocked” state in the app. You know, the same “blocked” state that isn’t real if the card has been successfully auto loaded and goes away upon travel. As a user you have no idea which of those two states the card is in.

Canadian address

I'm Canadian and cannot add my address when creating my account. Can't create an account... Can't buy tickets. Useless app.

App has stopped working

The idea is great and it’s been working fine until it doesn’t. I’ve been checking information about my clipper cards. But the information is not updating in the app. It’s showing last updated on Aug 25/26 (have more than 1 card). It’s not showing any transactions or activities. It’s not showing the value I added.
It was great and could be a 5-star app but it’s stopped working and it’s useless.

Can never load money with my card

I have only been able to load this card twice with the bank card I have on file. Several attempts and it will tell me it can’t process. No need for me to contact my bank as I use this card for other purchases and never have an issue. Especially since clipper is as able to process it two times before. This service is not user friendly and when contacting customer service they have no answer as to why I cannot use my card. When I’ve contacted via email I have not received a response. My son will just go back to using cash because this is ridiculous because how is it that my only alternative is to go to a Walgreens to load the card. Not very effective

Trip tools is unbearably slow

When using the Trip Tools tab, it either takes an unnecessary amount of time to load or just doesn’t load at all whether on 5G UWB or WiFi. Very iffy but rest of the app works fine. Really wish the same Clipper card could be loaded on Watch and iPhone in case one dies (which has happened to me then I can’t use my card at all).

Unable to cancel Auto-load Passes on App

It’s very easy to set up auto load for passes, such as the monthly muni pass I bought. But when it came time to stop the auto-load, there is no way to cancel it. I have been charged for 2 months that I did not want this monthly pass. The only way to cancel is to call the office. Doesn’t make sense that it’s so easy to set up, but near impossible to cancel, almost like they want to force you to continue paying even when you don’t want to.
