  • Virtually unusable at present

I really wanted to like the app, but it’s giving me grief at the moment. Every time I try to open it, I have to re-login despite following the Face ID instructions. I tried to start a workout and every time I try to switch to the next exercise after logging my sets and reps, a white screen appears with two arrows at the top, and I can’t click anything. I’ve tried waiting but nothing happens, so I close and re open the app, and all my information on sets and reps is gone. I then tried to log the issue in the contact section and despite multiple attempts it pops up with “error, cannot send message at this time”. When I try to look at how to do the exercises, the screen also goes white or takes about 3 minutes to load. Please fix the app as I am paying for it and really really want to use it!

  • Great program - app is seriously buggy

I love the program but the app constantly logs me out, when I try to complete & save my workout I get an error message so I have to cancel my workout and relog it for it to work. As I said I love the program but the app is making things harder!!
  • Great Program, Less Great App

    Pros:
Program is great and I’ve seen significant improvement in my lifts
Substitute feature is helpful (but see cons)

    Cons:
Reset feature and timing is clunky. If you’re trying to work out Sunday morning to finish the previous week, it will record the workout of the next week as completed.

Records are inconsistent at best. Sometimes my previous workouts are recorded, other times they’re not. I thought it might have been a reset issue from the new year because I lost all of my December workouts, but I am now missing all my early January stats and I work out the full 4-5 days a week with the app.

Substitutes are not completely programmed. You can substitute an exercise, but it doesn’t change the structure of the exercise in the program that day e.g. if you sub a weighted exercise for a timed exercise, the app doesn’t switch the set from reps/pounds to time

The set feature could also be more streamlined. You have to manually enter weight and reps for every set, even if the workout is straight sets. In other apps, you could usually push a button (almost like the green one on the side in SBTD) and it automatically input the previous set stats.

Finally, a timer feature when you finish a set would be immensely helpful and is standard in other workout apps.

Like I said, the program is great, but for what we pay, the app should have more capability and streamlining.

  • Excited to see this grow!

This is a really nice app for their program which I’ve been using for the last year. I tried other workout program apps that were more complex. They were difficult to use during a workout and made it hard to stick to the plan. This is simple and straightforward and has all the features I would want in terms of tracking progress. What would make this 5 stars for me would be the ability to select alternative exercises and record those. For now I just have to remember that I didn’t do the specified exercise. But otherwise I really like this it’s well worth using, much better than trying to use the webpage on my phone.

  • Not Impressed…. Yet

I love the Stronger By the Day Programming. I’ve been a member since before the app came out. I was one of the first members to trial run the app.

During the trial run, the app was amazing. It had everything I was looking for and I loved that I could enter my weights and then be told what to lift the next week for simple progressive overload.

Since the app has been released to everyone, it’s been so glitchy. Weeks of writing emails about the glitches and they are still not fixed. It’s so frustrating that I almost want to just go find a new program.

    1. The program constantly logs you out. When you log back in, it resets your data and acts like you’ve never logged in before. You have to re-enter everything.

    2. When you finally do get in and ready to lift, I start adding my numbers. Once I hit complete workout, it won’t save. I get an error message. I have to completely log out, retype all of the numbers into the workout and then hit save.

Lastly, it’s hit or miss what information actually winds up saving and making it to the next week.

I hope they resolve it soon or I will no longer be a customer. I understand it being a new app and there being glitches, but I can’t be the only one with these issues!

  • Great content, bit buggy

Love the content, really enjoying the workouts and how it’s set out on the app.

I’m having some problems however which I have listed below. I will still continue to work around these as I completely trust Meg to make me stronger. She knows her stuff and it’s worth it regardless of bugs.

Even on Wi-Fi I often can’t see the videos or substitutions. I have lost my training maxes and got errors when trying to update them. Error when trying to complete workout, then loosing all data entered for that workout. Was logged out when switching from Wi-Fi to data or vice versa.

  • Want to see workout preview in one screen!

I love the features this app adds to SBTD, especially being able to log and track progress. However, one thing that would make this 5 stars to me is being able to see each day’s workout in one screen. Sometimes I have to switch up the order of the exercises based on how I’m feeling or how busy the gym is. I really like knowing what exercises I’ll be doing that day so I can plan what machines I’ll need to keep an eye on, an area of the gym I want to take up, etc.

I can kind of see a preview under the Start Workout button but I can’t see the full day. It’d be cool if I could swipe up to see all the exercises for that day with the option to start workout from the swiped up screen as well.

Also, on another user experience related note, I get a little confused with the Replace button in the substituions feature. It’s a light gray and doesn’t look like an active button. Usually this color gives the mental model that I have to do something before I can click this button — it appears grayed out and looks like I can’t click it yet. I was curious why this call to action button wasn’t purple (like the Start Workout/Next buttons) or another color. It also has quite a low contrast accessibility wise (same goes for the confirmation screen that comes next!)

  • Handy app, great workouts

The app is so convenient - you can see the whole week’s programming and look over the workouts before you start them. It’s easy to track reps and weights and add notes as you go, and you can click on each movement for a demonstration gif and substitutions if needed. You can add extra warmup sets or working sets, and you can skip sections. You can toggle the warmup on or off so you don’t have to track it. The programming is varied and feels challenging but not exhausting - it’s just right. So far it’s taking me about an hour per session. This is by far the best workout program I’ve tried as an intermediate lifter (ex-crossfit). The app works beautifully with no bugs. Overall the program + app are extremely good value.

  • Intelligent training program and app does the math for you

Stronger by the Day is the smartest workout program at this price point I’ve come across. It’s not random one-off workouts, or the same thing every week, it progresses according to a plan based on physiological principles and training cycles. So that’s excellent, but I’m here to review the app.

I was doing this program before the app came out and was SO EXCITED about the app. A lot of the negative reviews on here were from the beta testing phase which is part of all app development processes. Now it’s been ironed out and I’m using it for every workout. It’s easy to use, does my percentage math for me and keeps track of my training maxes so I’m not always referring to a separate spreadsheet than my daily programming list. It gives substitutions with a few clicks AND (for me this is a huge cherry on top!) tells you how much weight total you’ve moved that day. Something about seeing that you lifted more than a typical car weighs gives a girl a boost for the rest of the day, know what I mean?

Anyway it’s a great app and a great program for an extremely reasonable price. I’ve already gotten way more than my money’s worth.

  • Love Meg’s programs

I’ve been running Meg’s program (gym and at home) for 3 or so years now and love it. I didn’t even know they put the app out, and was so excited to download it. It is, for the most part, great! A few comments:
    Pros:
-the UI is really clean and easy to navigate.
-love the integration of exercise examples and modifications
-automatically entering your weights so it tells you exactly what you should be training at for a given exercise

    Cons:
-no auto test timer that I could find. I’d love if, when you finish the last rep in a set, a times automatically pops up with the option to add or subtract 30 seconds
-entering the reps and weight for each rep in each set feels clunky. I’d like for it to automatically fill in the rest of the info once you enter the first set in
-have it jump to the next exercise in a set when you enter check the one before it
-the app seems to “reset” or crash when I open or use another app. When I go back to Stronger it will reset itself and I have to enter all the previous exercises again

A lot of these features are available in the “Strong” app, I’ve been using that for 5 years now and some integration of those features would make StrongerByTheDay top notch!
