  • Great features....but room for improvement

This app is overall great, the guided runs really set it apart and are such an excellent motivator. I do, however, have a few frustrations mainly built around the ‘my coach’ feature.

    1) The ‘my coach’ plan is a great concept, giving a variety of different goal types and selecting various different runs to work towards those goals. Sadly, although it boasts to adapt as you work through the plan, I have gone through 6 weeks, 3 benchmark runs (and all runs being considerably quicker than the recommended pace) and yet still not change (or option to adapt) plan.

    2) The speed runs. As many others, I truly believed I was using the app wrong when I started doing them...surely I wouldn’t have to run holding my phone, looking down to check my distance, then manually lap and pause, exit the app to time my rest period, then resume and repeat again?! It would make a world of difference if some rest periods and simple audio queues were added into this programmed run.

If those 2 issues were resolved (particularly #1) this would be my top recommended running app!

  • Like but Not Love

I like this app and want to love it. I have been using the coaching aspect of this app for the last month to train for a half marathon. I really like the running plan that I get weekly along with the suggested pace.

There have been a few issues for me. Issue one, there have been several runs that show in my general run history but have not been able to assign to my scheduled runs in my coaching history. Issue two, is the lack of instructions on the speed runs along with the fact that the break periods between sets is not automated. There are currently no instructions that I have seen that tell you to pause the run after every set to take the recommended break.

One area where I would like to see improvement is having the app log cadence. When I start a run with my Apple Watch I can see my cadence on the watch only. It is not logged for future reference. You also can not see you cadence on your Apple Watch if you start the run from your IPhone. This seems to be a simple improvement that Nike should be able to fix.

All in all I think it is a great app and I plan to continue to use it to train for my half marathon. Hopefully Nike makes some improvements in future updates that addresses my concerns above.

  • Love the concept

Its just the little things that annoy me like when i tried to hit my 50k for the month, did a 8 km run, but then the run did not sync and then vanished. Have lost a few runs like that now. Also had a few where the gps goes haywire. Recently im getting the 5km run badges not transferring to my achievements. I also have issues with the watch transfer, sometimes it takes hours to transfer to the app. If it was more reliable would give it a 5 star, but it is annoying not getting the rewards.

  • Almost amazing!

I’ve used this app - specifically the coach feature - for three years now and it’s been brilliant! Unfortunately a couple of recent updates have made things a lot harder :(

    1. The speed runs now have a lap button and a pause button, and you have to click both every time you complete a rep. This is frustrating enough, but then you also now have to switch to a stopwatch to time the rest because this is no longer timed in the app. If you want to keep the lap button, at least make the pause button add a lap, and time the rests? Or add a third button! An explanation of the best way to use these might be helpful...
Ideally, audio guidance/vibration when you complete the required distance would be great too :)

    2. Benchmark runs used to make a lot of sense and now there’s either a glitch or they’ve been changed in an unexplained way. The audio guidance made a lot of sense: 7 minutes warm up, 3 minutes fast, 5 minutes cool down. Now the benchmark run inexplicably says ‘1.00 km’ underneath it rather than 15 min, and there is no audio guidance so no explanation of what to do. Am I meant to run 7-3-5 as before? Am I meant to warm up myself and run 1km fast? If there’s no audio guidance there should at least be some explanation please!

I have however loved the app so much, so thank you for what you’ve provided!

  • I’ve learned to love running again

I started running again 6 months ago after a 7 year break since having kids. Was using strava to track distance, but 4 months ago decided to enter a half marathon so needed a training plan. Am so glad I downloaded this app.

The 10 week plan was the best training ever and took me from a 7min km 5k pace to 4:30. PB park run 5k got to 23mins and I completed my half in 1:55. Key lessons are slowing down on long runs and speeding up on tempo runs.

But better still - I’ve enjoyed every run. My mindset has completely changed - found it rewarding to train in the heat of Australian summer, torrential tropical downpours and cold Canberra mornings with bugs hitting me. The guided runs helped me see this as great endurance training which is also helping me in life.

  • The only running app!

Absolutely love Nike+ run club. Wouldn’t think about going anywhere else. The achievement reward system and run levels are a great way to keep you motivated and competitive. The only improvement I would recommend is allowing profiles of others to open to all so that you can compare with all level of runners novice and pro. Great job team! • STILL, YES, STILL GARBAGE

Update after update Nike is adding useless features yet they still can’t make this app work properly on an Apple Watch. Ridiculous that this app is still an “Editors Choice” to boot when it’s just simply NOT WORKING! Same annoying problems as months ago when I last used it. Not synchronizing with my iPhone so my runs are lost, ending the tracking of a run in the middle of it, stopping and restarting the tracking of a run in the middle of it for no reason, not responding when trying to stop a run upon completion... Yes, it’s still complete and hopeless garbage. I’m amazed that so many other users seem to have similar problems yet the developers of this app still can’t find their way out of a paper bag and have it work properly on an Apple Watch. I’m also surprised that this app gets decent reviews. Are all those positive reviews fake? Come on, if it’s not synchronizing with your iPhone and you’re loosing the data relating to your runs, it’s just not working and it deserves ZERO stars, not even one star.

Fortunately, I also rely on my Apple Workouts app so I can still track my activities even when the Nike Run app malfunctions. Given that the Apple Workout app has gotten better over time in terms of the features and analytics it offers, and is stable as a rock, I’m going to switch completely to it. No more frustration in dealing with this ridiculous piece of Nike garbage and, big bonus, I’m going to be freeing up 700MB of storage space.

  • Progressively worse and worse. Time to switch to Strava

Been using this for 12 years. Wear Nike trainers, clothing, and the Nike Apple Watch (2nd one I’ve had.) The level of frustration I have to reach to abandon all this running history, is huge! But, I think I’m there.
First, you massively depreciated the web functionality for viewing the run data vi your website. Then you closed off your APIs to awesome services like SmashRun. And now your watch app is losing runs, not syncing, and not installing (assume that’s an app update.) The solution I read online was to remove from the watch and reinstall. Except it won’t. Multiple deletes of the phone app, restarts of watch and phone - everything short of a full reinstallation of my watchOS. Which I’m not prepared to do - I’ll just up on your apps. An app that used to work so well has just depreciated it’s functionality and reliability to the point that I’m prepared to start from scratch with something new. Fail, Nike, massive fail

  • Great for a beginner runner

As a beginner runner, I find the app sets really good challenges to get you competitive with yourself and (if you want) your friends. It’s also pretty fun to collect the achievement badges! I’ve been using the app for about 6 months now and have reached my 6 month streak where previously I had never enjoyed running in my life!

I started out listening to Coach Bennett’s audio guides which really helped as a distraction from the suffering, but I find myself able to stay motivated to run without them now. When I need an extra kick to get going again, or change things up, I’ll listen to the tapes again. I’ve gotten a few friends onto this app and we share our data with each other so we can cheer each other on and have some healthy competition!

The one thing that I’d really like to see added is some kind of route planning tool, where I can mark out a route on a map to set as a distance goal without getting lost and all I have to do is focus on the running. I find that sometimes when I want to push further distance, I start having to use Google maps to find my way back home because I start going down random streets to get the kilometres up.

Otherwise, really happy with the app! Would definitely recommend as I have with all my friends!

  • Why?

Why is the app updating everyday? Is this a bug?
