  • Couldn’t be anymore stressful

Me and 5 other friends were booking a what seemed simple trip through the app. Came to realise you can’t even book tickets through the app so had to go through journey by journey all on our different devices checking the times were correct which took a long stressful half hour. When we finally came to purchasing all the seat reservations, one of the journeys was ‘unavailable’ when it didn’t say it was sold out but just wouldn’t let us purchase so had to change that journey as well. Came to check out, added on an extra £9 for postage even though we had all purchased an E ticket, also booking fees of up to £10 added on - this is absolutely ridiculous when initially paying £210 for ticket in the first place then having to pay another £80 on top of that literally contradicts the whole point of buying the pass and we’ve now spent nearly £300 on something that is meant to be the cheapest option. Not to mention how slow the website was and how many problems each member of our travelling party faced with glitches and logging us out half way through booking. Happy it’s done now but my advice to anyone reserving seats: book WELL in advance and prepare to pay a lot more than you anticipated.

For an international company, this is absolutely appalling.

Hi there, thank you for your feedback. I am sorry to hear you had a stressful time using our App and experienced difficulties when booking seat-reservations via the Self-Service tool. Indeed, despite having a Pass, some trains require additional seat reservations. Some of these trains offer only limited availability and therefore we highly recommend to plan and book well in advance when traveling during high-season or a group. Regarding paper seat reservations - please kindly note this is a requirement of operating railway company, I am afraid there is not much we can do about it. As for the glitches in the App - we would like to hear more, as this can help us to fix and improve a customer's experience. You can contact us via the App and leave your feedback/suggestions or you can reach out to our CS team. Best Regards, Vicky
  • Worked great

At first, I was hesitant to use the app and purchase the mobile passes due to the negative reviews. However, purchasing the paper pass to be mailed to our address would have been too late for our trip. After I installed the app, the instructions to register and use it were easy to follow. I was able to add all our mobile passes on the app. I liked the “My Trip” feature, it helped us plan the train dates and times accordingly to match our itinerary for the day. The added reservation feature was useful, I didn’t have to worry about our seats. Though, I have to pay extra for the seat reservations, it was worth it. The app worked well during our trip in Italy. It took some advance planning and scheduling that helped avoid last minute headaches and problems.

  • Bad app, worse customer service

The only thing worse than this app is the company’s customer service. Several of my desired trips can’t be found on the app, so I have to add them manually. This fails every time, with the journey either never appearing or appearing for a short time before disappearing from my trip. This leaves me unable to travel with the passes I paid several thousand dollars for. I’ve contacted customer service three times over the past week and haven’t gotten a single reply, despite their claim that they aim to respond within 48 hours. This is unacceptable for travelers who have paid a lot of money for rail passes but can’t travel when the app won’t function properly. Also, many countries in Europe require you to make (and pay for) seat reservations for each leg of every journey in addition to having a rail pass. The app implies that reservations can be made through the app but once you click to make reservations for many countries, they tell you that these reservations can only be made in person at a train station, defeating the purpose of being able to just arrive at the station and hop on the train with your rail pass. I’ve heard it may be possible to get pass cover numbers from Eurail and then book reservations online but, again, customer service hasn’t responded to my inquiries. Terrible app when people are so highly dependent on it to function for their travel and even worse responsiveness to problems.

  • Complete trash

Don’t waste your time on this for Spain. You can reserve tickets until you are at the station in person, so if it’s sold out, you are out of luck. The app is complete trash, doesn’t let you link you pass to tickets and there is no adequate support for problems. I am in Spain currently and traveling, but they won’t get back to me for 2 days. What a waste of time and money. Just buy tickets from Renfe directly if you want to save your sanity.

  • Does not function correctly

On the face of it, this app is the perfect companion to an interrail ticket. Sadly, the reality is that the app does not actually function as it should.
One example is the fact that it is not authorised to sign you into your account using Google - something you have to do on the website meaning you cannot use the app to book seat reservations.

The biggest issue however, is the way my pass and my trip are not synchronising with each other. I found myself at stations looking for my pass for a journey and finding whole legs of my journey are not visible. Yet when I try to re-add them to the trip, it says I am already booked and will not let me view my pass - infuriating!
Considering this is the main function of the app, I find it appalling that this does not work properly. The only reason I am still using it is that I have no alternative.

  • Usability issues

This app is manual at every step. I am still unclear why I need to personally make sure the “My trip”, “My Pass”, and “Seats reservation” tabs all have the same information even through the app should be able to pull through this info.
The user expectations are never accurately set, so I have had to buy a few tickets outside of my pass because companies might not participate in 1st class tickets, tickets need to be booked before a certain time period, or you cannot opt out of flexible tickets so the price on the app was double what it was in the ticket office.
I bought 15 travel days, have only been able to use 8 of them, but due to an app bug, I have been recorded as taking 9 days.
This programme is a shame considering the big push for rail growth in the EU.

    Developer Response

Thank you for your honest feedback. We're working hard to reimagine the whole concept of the Trip and make seat reservations more clear and accessible in the App. If you would like to share some ideas you may have about this, please don't hesitate to reach out to us directly. As for the price of the reservations, I'm afraid that those are determined by the railway companies and seats are subject to availability. The indicative prices on the Planner concern the seats you can book through our website's booking system, but we're not aware how much those might cost at the stations' ticket offices. Regarding the bug you encountered, you are kindly invited to contact our support team, if you haven't already, so that we can assist you with a solution. Best regards, Chrisy
  • Just… wow. Painful experience.

Worst user experience I’ve had in a travel app (and Eurail is a waste of time and money). Can not believe this is what the EU is relying on for domestic and foreign travelers. Put some effort into this sh$$. It’s mind boggling. Have any of the employees or developers actually gone through the user journey of booking a ticket? I had a lot of high expectations for this service but it’s a f$$$$$$ joke. Huge missed opportunity for so many good things. Way to go morons.

  • Can not add pass to app

I am getting an issue with adding my pass to the app so I can activate it. I’ve tried to contact over a week ago and haven’t had a response. My first trip is coming up in 2 days and at this rate I’m going to have to buy a seperate ticket for the trip costing me more!
  • The Buggiest App I Have Ever Used

This is without a doubt the buggiest app I have ever used! The QR codes for tickets only show up intermittently, and one has to kill and restart the app over and over and over to get them to show. I hope Eurail gets its house in order with an update soon!

In spite of the response from the developer you see here about contacting support, their support is essentially useless. I have exported and sent more than 30 error logs from the app to their developer support email address and have not received a single helpful response. This app is an embarrassing piece of software…

  • DO NOT GET IF POSSIBLE

one star is too high- I used this app to travel across Europe and it was truly THE worst experience. It never loaded, and whenever I opened it the app had logged me out and deleted all my travel days as well as my trips- due to this I lost at least 4 travel days that I could not get back, and got many fines when I I had legitimately paid for my pass as well as my seat ticket. I know this is the only way to show it but without wifi on the trains and good reception traveling through foreign countries the rail employees had no problem fining us up to 99 euros.
