not reality
No curbside pickup available at the location, though the app asks for my car type and color. No way to check in for the not-available curbside. Called, they said they are short staffed and there is no curbside. How about updating the app to reflect reality? My order was incorrect. One of the two sandwiches was a random different selection and there was an additional bagel and cream cheese. Found out there is no was to check my order to see if I paid for the extra bagel. Thanks for the apology alert saying “some items” might not be available. Maybe what I ordered was no longer available, but again, app not in touch with situation on the ground. Offering curbside as a pandemic response, but then not delivering on the promise due to staff shortages and supply chain issues seems like a sad contradiction of blame and accommodation.

Yummy Deals
Love being able to use this app to keep up on all the deals and specials going on at Einstein. They have a great menu to choose from for fresh flavorful food for breakfast and lunch. Why four stars??? One definite thing in the app I’d say should be fixed is when ordering on line have an area to add additional comments. For instance I have a tomato allergy, but there’s no option to remove them from an item I like, or additional comments to write a note regarding it. Would be great if the menu to order on line wasn’t so limiting, does not include all the choices available on the menu when you walk in.

Annoying payment
I tried ordering while on the go. When getting to the payment method it appeared I had to add money to my account before I could make my purchase. I was already on the road so I had to pull over to add a card. When I went back it still wanted money added to the account so, frustrated, I tapped the amount - and then found out they had Apple Pay as an option! Why not just offer Apple Pay to begin with? By this time I was near the restaurant but made my payment and found out it would be a 15-20 minute wait. Had I had the option for Apple Pay right away I would have been able to pay and arrive in about 15 minutes. Just a super frustrating experience.

Miss the indoor seating
I used to have a weekly breakfast meeting at Einstines with 4 other guys. Now we have to eat a Penera. I would also go 1 to 2 times to prepare for my Saturday morning Mens bible study. Einstines was always my go-to place whenever I wanted to meet someone for breakfast or lunch. I might be able to do so a little bit when the weather gets better and we can sit outside, but it is not the same. I also have several pictures of my kids eating there when we would drop our car off for service at a nearby station. And I can still picture people enjoying a quick breakfast before sports or heading up the mountain to go skiing. Sometimes the line would be out the door.
Anyway, Please consider reopening the lobby for dine in. It is such a big part of my ministry of meeting with people and I have so many fond memories.

Why is this app so hard to use?
I have several complaints about this app.
1-it requires me to use my rewards when ordering. I often order bagels for work and would like the option not to use rewards for these orders.
2- I cannot have multiple payment methods. I would like to have several cards loaded to the account and just select which card I would like to use for payment. I would like the option to have a personal card stored for my personal orders and I work hard stored for work orders. Every time I go to order it requires me to add a new card if I’m using a different form of payment. Super annoying!
3-when placing orders it uses more points than I have requested. If I select a reward later I will go back and look at the account and it has been deducted three times. It’s taking points for things I haven’t even gotten. These are some major glitches on the app. Super frustrating to use.

Rigid inflexible app, have stopped using
Unable to customize order in any way other than the insufficient options the app provides. I placed one order for ASAP and when I went into the store 15 minutes later they hadn’t even received it yet, it hadn’t gone through. Unable to modify or cancel an order once placed even immediately. App doesn’t show specifics of pickup location before confirming. Lost money using the app because it didn’t show the rewards or discounts I could have applied. No place or way to add a tip. I will not bother using it again until it’s vastly improved. I get much better results and service by ordering in person.

Terrible order customization
I love Einstein Bros Bagels but the app is completely worthless to place an order with any type of customization beyond changing the type of bagel. Say you want Swiss on your bagel sandwich and not cheddar (like my spouse always wants)? Too bad. Or maybe you avoid dairy and want no cheese (like me)? Too bad. Or maybe there is one ingredient on a bagel sandwich you are allergic to or simply don’t like? Out of luck. There is absolutely no way to indicate this on your app order. There isn’t even a “comments” or “notes” box to write down order customizations. So every time we want Einstein Bros bagels, we have to call our order in. This certainly is a lot less convenient (sometimes they are so busy it takes forever to get them to answer the phone) and makes us patronize Einstein Bros a lot less than we normally would. PLEASE MAKE YOUR APP BETTER!

Store-App Connection Busted
I ordered through the app, it was accepted, so I drove across town for pickup to find the store closed early and nobody to contact. When I finally talked to an employee, they told me there was nothing they could do and that I had to cancel through the app. There is no way to do this, or to even get a proper receipt (just a lackluster order history section). I went on the website and there is no corporate customer service line either, so I had to fill out a form and it took a week for someone to get back to me to give me a store credit (as opposed to just refunding me). As if I want to try this all over again. Beware if you order through this app, there’s no guarantee the store will have what you order, and you won’t be able to get your money back if they don’t.

Missing key ordering features
There are some cool things on here, but they really missed key opportunities when creating an online ordering + loyalty app.
1. Nowhere can I find my in-progress order - once I place my order, it says “ready in 10-15”, but once I click away from that screen, I can’t go back to any of find my previous orders. There’s a rewards page, which shows how much I paid, but no order details or say if it’s still in progress or ready
2. No “help” or customer service - When I discovered that I couldn’t look at my in progress order, I tried to find somewhere to give feedback, and apparently the App Store is the only place to do that. FAQs only get you so far. Your app/loyalty management service is doing you a disservice (check out Merkle if you need a loyalty revamp). If you just… don’t take feedback, that’s bad for your brand. My order was also incorrect and didn’t realize til I got home. Where do I go for that? Here is the only place, I guess. Not super happy about that.
3. Incomplete menu = money grab - they conveniently don’t have a side (1 or 2oz) size of shmear. If you want any cream cheese on the side, you have to buy a tub for $4+. The image is also misleading where it looks like a side and the description doesn’t call out that it’s a tub until it’s in your cart.
Hoping for improvements soon as I generally enjoy this brand, but these things make it really annoying. Keep up with the times.

Needs a full menu
It sucked that I had to download an app (rather than go to a website to order) and then sign up for the rewards program before I could order any food. But it sucked even more when I saw that the app didn’t feature the full menu (my gf likes the pizza bagels) so I ended up going to the restaurant anyway to get a pizza bagel.
I’m only frustrated because I know it’s possible to do. I can order panera bread straight off their website without making an account and go pick it up in the restaurant. An app is really not necessary to replace a functioning mobile site. Would suggest re-designing the UI either way, it was hard to navigate and the experience didn’t feel effortless or seamless.
