Latest Update 10/10

I absolutely adore this app! It has been such an incredible source of motivation for me to maintain my running routine. In the beginning, I challenged myself to keep up with the slowest character, but guess what? Now I'm actually catching up to the next one! And guess what's even better? Thanks to the latest update, I can now see my progress with every character all at once! How cool is that?

Hello My Beard, Thank you so much for taking the time to review Fantasy Hike. We're delighted to hear you've been enjoying it! All the best on your journey and happy hiking!

Almost Perfect!!

I loveee this app!!! I think the one thing that would make it 1000x better for me is if the map was improved. If we could zoom in on it and see in slightly closer detail where we are along the journey + if names of locations were written on the map. Generally just making the map more interesting nothing too crazy but slightly more detail - but so much that it removed the mystery of the walk! Just things like “Rivendell” and “Moriah” written on the map, and the ability to zoom in and see it a bit clearer would be cool. Also I agree with other reviewers that you move extremely quickly thought interesting areas and then very slowly along flat planes - I guess this is more accurate to the story tbf but balancing it out just a bit more or at least having the environment at least change more while walking through the blank plane areas would make it better - rather than just moving very slowly over those parts. These are the main things I’d change!! It would also be really cool if you could see on the route where the challenges are (obviously you’d have to be ahead of them but still). Thanks so much for the app! Love it

Hello josmagfailedds, Thank you so much for reviewing Fantasy Hike. We are aware of the slow spot and have plans to improve it. Our to-do list is just a bit long at the moment and we're a very small company. Thank you for your thoughtful feedback, we appreciate it! Happy hiking and good luck on your journey.

Changes

Would like for those who already paid for the app to get the sharing subscription automatically as a loyalty subscriber. When I got this app I was hoping you could share with family and friends but you couldn’t. But I still paid for it because it was a cool concept. Hoping you upgrade already paid subscribers for free.

Hello srhpwll, Thank you for reviewing Fantasy Hike. People who bought unlimited walking distance in the past will be able to use the app just as they have before in the future, that won't change. The friend feature has a steep server upkeep so we opted for a small subscription there. Thank you for the feedback! We do appreciate it and all the support that makes it possible to keep improving the app. Happy hiking and good luck on your journey.

Highly Recommend

App is highly motivating to get steps in. I started in December and haven’t walked this much since before Covid. The app offers a cute background to navigate with notes about where you’re at on your journey and I love to see the landscape change as I walk. some sections take longer to walk through than others and I’ve found myself walking more to get to the next area especially if I can see it at the edge of my screen. I also love that there are 4 character options to pace yourself/compete with. I started with hairyfoot potter and was able to pass him and am now chasing down alice wonderfoot.
I also encourage you to go ahead and purchase the app rather than doing the free version so you can collect all of your steps. The day I bought the app I decided I was going to stop being sedentary and I believe the app provided the right motivation to keep me moving.

Really like the app

The only thing I would change is it would be nice if you could see more stats for your walking, look back further for each day the distance you walked, maybe we will get this in an update

Change to subscription model - be warned

I was close to writing a positive review for this lovely app prior to last week, until they changed from a very reasonable one off purchase, to a subscription model for unlimited distance. They justify this through the inclusion of a friends competition - not interested. Shame on the devs for this greedy move. This change invalidates many of the below positive reviews.

Hello 139444549, The subscription model is NOT for the unlimited walking. You can still buy unlimited walking solely and if you bought it before you can continue to use the app exactly as you did before. The subsciption model is only or the friend feature nothing else. If you don't want the friend feature (the servers for it require a lot of upkeep) you don't ever have to have the subscription and can continue to use Fantasy Hike like you did before. I hope this helped. Happy hiking!

Overjoyed with v2 friends features

Lucky me! I finished my original quest 3 days ago and updated the app to v2, to be immediately rewarded with the new “sharing with friends” features. What a bonus!! As someone who regularly sends screenshots to friends and pesters them, “Where are you at now???”, this is something I’ve been waiting for for so long! It felt amazing to get to Mount Doom AND then be able to start over again immediately with my buddies.

To everyone who’s complaining about the pricing: it’s $15 a year for the friends features, hardly a wallet smasher, and if you prepaid $4 like me ages ago, you keep your unlimited distance. So use the app as you’ve always used it or pay to get the new sharing, no biggie. I for one feel like $15/year is great value for adding friendly competition to my quest.

To the developer: in v3 can we have a version where we finish the rest of the story? Get picked up by an eagle (flying mile bonus), see Aragorn crowned in Gondor, clear the Shire (riding mile bonus), and go to the Gray Havens? I’d pay more for that. Not too much more 😅, but more for sure. Thank you!!

Loved but now disappointed

I used to love this app! It was amazing!
But then it just deleted itself off my phone some how, and now that I’ve reinstalled it there are accounts and pay to use features.

You now need to pay to have unlimited steps per day or even to go past 1500km! Everything gets worse when you have to pay to use it and this shows. Won’t be using this app ever again and will be telling my friends and others about this! To say I am disappointed would be an understatement.

Was 4 stars, if you could just buy the new features 5 stars

I bought this app before the latest update and the app was solid but still missing a few things. The new update brings a lot of good things (share with friends) but now it is a subscription. I am all for paying for the new features but just let me buy the features. I also don’t know if I will be able to keep the unlimited steps that I already bought. If things change I will gladly change to 5 stars because I want this app to succeed but really don’t want to pay a subscription just to use an app that is not that mind blowing, just cool.

Edit: I do get to keep my unlimited steps, very relived about that. Also if anyone is complaining about having to buy unlimited steps is crazy that app is at least worth that. My gripe is with not owning anything and having to sub.
